Welcome

[edit]

Hello Skoglund and welcome to Wikipedia! I'm glad you've chosen to join us. This is a great project with lots of dedicated people, which might seem intimidating at times, but don't let anything discourage you. Be bold!, explore, and contribute. If you want to learn more,

The following links might also come in handy:

Float around for awhile until you find something that tickles your fancy. One easy way to do this is to hit the random page button in the navigation bar to the left. You can write new articles, add to existing ones, or edit any and all pages that appear. There are also many great committees and groups that focus on particular jobs. My personal favorite stomping grounds are Wikipedia:Translation into English and Wikipedia:Cleanup for sloppy articles, but they may not interest you. Finally, the Wikimedia Foundation has several other wiki projects that you might enjoy more, but Wikipedia is the most popular by far.

There are a few crucial points to keep in mind when editing. Be civil with users, strive to maintain a neutral point of view, and show good etiquette like signing your comments with four tildas like this: ~~~~ If you have any more questions, always feel free to ask me anything on my talk page or ask the true experts at Wikipedia:Help desk. Again, welcome! Draeco 21:43, 26 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

History Edits

[edit]

Thank you very much for your additions to a large number of time period articles. It's very much appreciated!

If you haven't seen History Portal and History Project articles, you may be interested in what you see (or can add) at those pages.

Why are you changing headlines?

[edit]

Hello there! Why are you chainging the headlines of years BC? Greece, Persian empire, Rome etc. are sub headlines of By place and as such, they should not be larger than that one. It is itself a sub headline of Events and thus, it's smaller than that one. Hej! Varför ändrar du på rubrikerna på åren före Kristus? Greece, Persian empire, Rome etc. är underrubriker till By place och skall därför vara mindre än den. Den är i sig en underrubrik till Events och är alltså mindre än den. /Ludde23 Talk Contrib 23:14, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Stop the changes! Why are you doing it? They shouldn't be headline level 2, but headline level 4! Stop this instant! Ludde23 Talk Contrib 13:01, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion for 5th century BC

[edit]

Hi Igor! I notice you've done a lot of work with the historical date topics. I just made a small correction to 5th century BC, and I have a suggestion. Since specific dates from 2500 years ago are so imprecise, it might make sense to show the estimated/approximate dates after the year. This would keep the year column lined up better. For example, something like this:

[edit]

Hello, when you want to link to the article about something British, please do not link to British, as that is a disambiguation page (which nothing should be linked to). Instead link to the one of the options found on that page such as United Kingdom or Great Britain by writing out [[United Kingdom|British]] or [[Great Britain|British]]. A very long time ago

[edit]

Skoglund said on my user talk:

I'm not sure what you mean precisely, Upper Paleolithic covers time over a period of 30,000 years.
Still, I'd be glad to help expand dates/events. Please let me know more.
Thanks (again) for your contributions to Wikipedia -- That Guy, From That Show! 09:38, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fine job, but...

[edit]

Hello! You're doing a fine job adding events to the year articles, but, when you do so, please write in the present tense. /Ludde23 Talk Contrib 00:01, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

And while you're at it, please don't remove the spaces between the asterisks (*) and the text. /Ludde23 Talk Contrib 22:21, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again! I feel I should take the opportunity to talk to you now. I have now gone over your edits and fixed them gramatically and layoutwise. The thing is, I always have to, when you edit the year pages, since you keep making the same mistakes over and over again. I would therefore be glad, if you could stop making those mistakes in the future. Here are some things you should consider, when editing the year articles:

  1. Put a space between the asterisk (*) and the text (as in * The statue... not *The statue...).
  2. Specify what kind of work of art that is made. You shouldn't just write Polykleitos makes Doryforos... - you should specify what Doryforos is, so instead, please write Polykleitos makes the statue Doryforos....
  3. When you're adding new headlins, don't add the headlines, save and then add the text. Add both the headline and the text and then save.
  4. When you specify where those works of art are kept today, you can't just say It is now at.... In English, you must specify what they are, so please specify with more words, such as It is now kept at... or It is now preserved at... or something like that.

Otherwise, you're doing a fine job adding notes about works of art to the year articles. Keep up the good work! /Ludde23 Talk Contrib 20:34, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of 1848 in Germany

[edit]

A tag has been placed on 1848 in Germany requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Closedmouth (talk) 09:02, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:02, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Adam Haslmayr, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Tyrol (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Opting in to VisualEditor

[edit]

As you may know, VisualEditor ("Edit beta") is currently available on the English Wikipedia only for registered editors who choose to enable it. Since you have made 50 or more edits with VisualEditor this year, I want to make sure that you know that you can enable VisualEditor (if you haven't already done so) by going to your preferences and choosing the item, "MediaWiki:Visualeditor-preference-enable". This will give you the option of using VisualEditor on articles and userpages when you want to, and give you the opportunity to spot changes in the interface and suggest improvements. We value your feedback, whether positive or negative, about using VisualEditor, at Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback. Thank you, Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 20:26, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of William Bousie

[edit]

Hello Skoglund,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged William Bousie for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Vanjagenije (talk) 23:30, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I declined the speedy. Please source the thing quickly to make notability more apparent. Dlohcierekim 02:17, 10 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sources, please

[edit]

When you created William Maxwell (physician) you must have got the information from somewhere: please remember to tell us where, by adding a source. Otherwise we have no evidence that you have not just invented him. Thanks. PamD 14:02, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Baron Jules Dupotet de Sennevoy

Hello Skoglund,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Baron Jules Dupotet de Sennevoy for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

Skoglund, although the tag was completely understandable, I declined the deletion because of this article about him in the French wiki. They use a different title for the article. I have no idea if it's better. I'm hoping that you will take some time to improve the article. Feel free to use the material from the French wiki (translated, of course) as long as it's reliably sourced. You may also want to move the article so the titles match.--Bbb23 (talk) 00:54, 23 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to 1906 may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Annetta Seabury Dresser requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 19:40, 1 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Damcar on the Mercator map or Arabia

[edit]

There is a sentence:"Damcar appears on the Mercator map or Arabia" on the page: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/1569. I have tried to find this appearance, however I was not able to locate "Damcar" on the maps e.g. here:

could you please help me with an explanation of how to find the correct map and how to locate Damcar on a map. Best regards, Leo LeoL01 (talk) 08:09, 18 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article William Maxwell (physician) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Biography article that, at this point, does not demonstrate how the person being biographed stands out from their peers and, consequently, makes it difficult to understand his/her eventual encyclopedic relevance. In this context, I bring it for community evaluation.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
