I am told that Wikipedia is NOT the place for spamming keywords/names/businesses/manufacturers. The Sport of Nordic Walking has NO pioneers. EXEL coined the word Nordic Walking and the activiity took off successfully from there in Europe. There where no "pioneers" and there will never be Olympic Gold Medalists in Nordic Walking no matter how awesome and effective Nordic Walking Is.

It is historic fact that the 1st EXERSTRIDER Walking Poles had Reflex downhill/alpine ski grips and heavy downhill/alpine shafts. Not much Nordic about that.

There are some manufactures and instructors with some new ideas about walking with poles - this doesn't make them Nordic walking pioneers. Wikipedia is NOT an appropriate place to unnecessarily name drop.

Ski racers have been ski walking and hill bounding with poles for decades. Skiers have also used their winter ski poles for hiking for many decades prior to Exerstriding and Nordic Walking. Smart hikers have been hiking with poles for decades too.

Enough of the marketing hype!

Also, while roller skiing today for a couple hours with the team it was crystal clear that the fingerless glove type straps on my roller ski poles allow me to use the poles in such a way that I NEVER have to grab the pole grips - the strap allow the user to have total separation from the grip/pole and eliminates lock-wrist that occurs with strapless and lesser quality loop straps and lesser quality velcro straps. "Polepapa" keep inserting text that claims ergonomic strapless grips eliminate the need to grip the poles? If strapless poles weren't gripped in some manner why would the Exerstrider, the leading manufacturer of strapless poles, make special little sock-things to absorb the sweat from gripping hands??

If I am guilty of cutting and pasting ignorantly too please point out my inaccurate or false copy. No one is perfect and that is why Wikipedia is awesome - allowing for debate and hopefully truthful and honest text.
