about vandalism

[edit]

Hi Skeetypeety,

Thank you for cleaning up lots of vandalism on Wikipedia. For example, vandalism in the Harold and Maude, International School of Brussels, and Katyn massacre articles.

In a couple of recent edits, you reverted a change that 166.187.209.212 made to an article and then warned 166.187.209.212 about vandalism.

I have an issue with the template you used to warn 166.187.209.212. In Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace, five levels of warnings are provided:

  • Level 1 – Assumes good faith. Generally includes "Welcome to Wikipedia" or some variant.
  • Level 2 – No faith assumption; just a warning
  • Level 3 – Assumes bad faith; cease and desist
  • Level 4 – Assumes bad faith; strong cease and desist, last warning
  • Level 4im – Assumes bad faith; very strong cease and desist, first and only warning

In your warning, you used a level 3 template, {{subst:uw-vandalism3}}.

It would have been better to use a level 1 template, {{subst:uw-vandalism1}}, because of three reasons:

  • This was 166.187.209.212's first time.
  • 166.187.209.212's edit was not particularly offensive.
  • 166.187.209.212's edit could be seen as a good faith edit.

It was not the users first edit, and I assumed bad faith as level 3 suggests. Sure it was not offensive, but it in my opinion was not a good faith edit. I stand by my warning.
