Welcome!

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. The following links will help you begin editing on Wikipedia:

Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia

The Wikipedia tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome!

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Canadian of British Stock, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: British Canadian. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot was mistaken and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 12:48, 21 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello Simonsyo,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Outline of the Soviet Union for deletion, because it appears to duplicate an existing Wikipedia article, [[{{{article}}}]].

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. ubiquity (talk) 15:31, 23 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Flag of the Gold Islands

Hello Simonsyo,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Flag of the Gold Islands for deletion, because it doesn't appear to contain any encyclopedic content. Take a look at our suggestions for essential content in short articles to learn what should be included.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Flag of the Gold Islands requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Nelsam.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.

If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.

Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next seven days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 11:37, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:Map of the British Empire.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Map of the British Empire.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 15:05, 27 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Template:Canadian of British Stock requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion because it is an unused duplicate of another template, or a hard-coded instance of another template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Republic of Alabama requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.abbevilleinstitute.org/blog/the-republic-of-alabama/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

Information icon Hi there! Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. Thanks!

Stop icon

Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted material, including text or images from print publications or from other websites, without an appropriate and verifiable license. All such contributions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Proposed deletion of List of former sovereign states by length of coastline

[edit]

The article List of former sovereign states by length of coastline has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unsourced "list" with just one complete entry

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. --Bongwarrior (talk) 02:40, 16 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop your disruptive editing, as you did at List of countries by Human Development Index. Your edits have been or will be reverted or removed.

Do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive until the dispute is resolved through consensus. Continuing to edit disruptively may result in your being blocked from editing. Hard time telling if this is intentional or not, but regardless it's gotten very disruptive. Please stop immediately. EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 17:13, 19 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for persistent copyright violations. You were warned twice before (on 11 and 12 March) that if you continued to upload copyrighted images, you would be blocked. Despite this, you chose once again to upload an image that was not your own earlier today. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by first reading the guide to appealing blocks, then adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  DrKay (talk) 08:27, 20 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I understand that vandalized Wikipedia. Please unblock me. If you do so, I won't do it again

Decline reason:

You don't even appear to understand why you are blocked (hint: it's not for vandalism). Until you make it clear that you fully understand why you are blocked and that you will not repeat the problems, and explain how you intend to contribute to the encyclopedia in the future, there is no chance you will be unblocked. Further, if you keep on making unblock requests in which it is clear that you are not listening or do not understand, you are likely to have your ability to edit this page removed. I uploaded images that were no mine and said that they were mine. I won't do it again. Please unblock me. I would contribute to Wikipedia constructively Simonsyo (talk) 11:46, 22 April 2016 (UTC).[reply]

Given your history of dishonesty I feel like if I unblocked you that you would make me regret it. HighInBC 14:50, 22 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I will not do the wrong thing. Please unblock me Simonsyo (talk) 10:49, 23 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

You've given us no reason to believe you. Combined with your lies above, I'm afraid I have to decline your unblock request. Please think really, really hard before making any more unblock requests. You appear to be just wasting our time with them and if you do so again, you may lose access to this talk page. So, before making any further requests, educate yourself and explain clearly why you lied, what you now understand about copyright that you didn't before, and why we should believe you. I saw this unblock request earlier but could not review it as I have already reviewed a previous one, but Yamla's review is pretty much exactly what my response would have been had I been able. My suggestion at this point is that you consider the Standard Offer, spend six months away from the English Wikipedia and working on others (The Simple English Wikipedia is one close to my heart as a very worthwhile project), then come back after that with actual evidence of your good work. The alternative, I think, is that you might well have your talk page privileges revoked here. So please, I urge you, give my suggestion serious consideration before you think of responding again. Educate yourself, or accept the block

[edit]

@Simonsyo: All the copyright problems aside, you don't seem to have taken the time to learn how Wikipedia works, what kind of content can be added to the encyclopedia, and how that content can be added. We have a vast helpspace, which includes a great explanation on uploading images. You can also find explanations of the image use policy and even a messageboard for getting guidance from more experienced editors on copyright issues. These are links that have been provided to you at least three times already.

Had you taken the time to read the notices you've received on this page regarding your edits, and read the guidelines that were linked for your benefit, you wouldn't be blocked today. You could even have responded to the notices, and other users would have helped you understand these guidelines and become a better editor. But the fact that you can't even take the time to read the instructions on how to appeal your block in the notice above—you're supposed to copy, not edit, the {{unblock}} template example—suggests that you either don't care enough to educate yourself on the workings of this encyclopedia, or you're unable, due to a language barrier or some other issue. If the latter, please explain what's going on and I'll do my best to assist you. If you just don't want to follow the policies and community standards of this encyclopedia, I suggest you look at Wikia as a more suitable outlet for your creative efforts.

I have fixed your unblock requests twice (first, second). If it happens again, I'll know you haven't even bothered to read this message. Ibadibam (talk) 19:10, 23 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
