Not free web space

Until the book is published AND achieves notability WP:NBOOK, there is not a place for an article about something in it. (I am saying AND because unpublished books are regarded as non-notable unless their author is already notable or highly significant. Examples would be the next Terry Pratchett Discworld novel or a book by Barack Obama.) Wikipedia is not free web space, and until the time I refer to, you will have to find somewhere else for your info. Wordpress and weebly seem to host things free of charge, and there's always Facebook. Please note that if the book is self-published (CreateSpace, lulu, AuthorHouse, Xlibris, etc) then it is very unlikely to reach a sufficient level of notability for inclusion here. On a technical note - it is better to put the info as an extract from a fictional textbook or report (as David and Leigh Eddings did in the Elenium and the Malloreon series) if you can't hint at it in the course of the story. Robert Heinlein is a good example of how to sneak info into a story without having passages where a senior person explains the history of the planet to a junior. Pratchett manages to get everything relevant in without overt explanations, and the excellent maps and guides to Discworld came well after the stories. If you draw maps too soon, you restrict yourself - but do keep track of details. Only Pratchett manages to 'explain' discontinuities convincingly... Peridon (talk) 17:29, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
