Reminder

[edit]

Please comment on content, not on the contributor. Your baseless insinuation at Csangos that I removed material which "contradicts my personal view point" and that this "seems to include a preference for anti-Csango propaganda from the communist era" is ludicrous and offensive. Your attempts to ascribe motivations to me other than the one I have stated (blatant copyright violation and addition of unreliable material) are grotesque. Any further such comments will be reported.

csango.ro is patently not acceptable as a source: it's an "advocacy organization" and there's no evidence it has an editorial policy. Neither is pavai.hu, a personal website.

I urge you to look over WP:V, WP:RS, WP:OR, WP:PSTS, WP:N and WP:MOS to find out how articles should be written. You're not writing them according to any sort of accepted standard at the moment.

For the record, I would be thrilled, absolutely delighted, if we could have a proper article on all aspects of Csango history, culture, religion, identity, etc. But the starting point has to be reliable sources—here and here and especially here and here, for instance, not some unverified website. I know it's harder work, but that's what we need for a decent article. - Biruitorul Talk 13:57, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Biruitorul -

István Pávai is an acceptable source since he is an accomplished ethnomusicologist whose specialization includes the Csango. Addendum: Just for the record, he has been studying and documenting the Csango since 1978 - not only their music and dances, but also religious practices, identity formation, etc.

I was linking to the English translation of his chronology republished on the website of the Association of Csango-Hungarians in Moldavia because, in English, it is more accessible to the English-speaking readership.

The piece is not authored by the Association of Csango-Hungarians in Moldavia, which, by the way, as an advocacy group is still not completely without value as a reference, just not an ideal source.

That aside, it remains a mystery why you also deleted paragraphs that had nothing to do with István Pávai or the Association of Csango-Hungarians in Moldavia, and why you also deleted the new English-language sources I used.

Finally, the first time around, I had included a link to Pávai's chronology for each large chunk of text in order to attribute them to him as his intellectual property. These may have been removed, because they looked cumbersome in the references at the bottom. I had been dissuaded from repeatedly citing using something along the lines of “According to Pávai...” for it being inelegant and I just can't figure how to do Ibid. The second time around, when paraphrasing, I referenced Pávai line by line. In three instances, when there was a quotation of a historical figure, I went to check the original in order to verify that the multiple translations matched up.

Invitation

[edit]

Hello!

Currently, the WikiProject Hungary is quite down with only a very limited active users, but I'd like to add some spirit into it. So, I would like to invite you to take a look at this proposal and share your opinion. You might also join a task force – from your contributions it looks like you might be interested in the Hungarian diaspora one – and by a cooperation of dedicated users we can further develop the task force related articles, the task force itself and by so the whole WikiProject Hungary as well. If you have questions, ideas or thoughts you can add them on the talkpage of the proposal, here (I watchlist your talkpage) or you can contact me directly on my talk page. Your words are very welcomed!

Thank you!
