Nymphalid list

[edit]

Hi, I've been tallying the list that you have put here, with a list Krushnamegh recently sent on butterflyindia. The list he sent is Evan's 1932 list and a current list is gonna be released by National Chemical Laboratory in Pune. I have decided that your list is more current and am just finding what I can and putting them in. I just wanted to know if you have access to krushnamegh's list or should I mail it to you? --Viren 18:22, 1 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Using Scientific names for species pages

[edit]

It's not that I prefer using common names especially, but that all the other bird pages use common names, and I think it is important to be consistent. I always try to include alternate common names at the start of the text, and make sure that the scientific name is set up as a redirect. Of course some species have more than one scientific name Smallweed 09:18, 9 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Images on commons

[edit]

No problem. Can I put up all the other pics also? or will it conflict with the ones on en.wikipedia? --Viren 04:55, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Holy cow, I was over at Commons, putting up the images from wikipedia and realised that there is no point cos they should have a category. So I looked at category and found so much confusion that now I have a head ache. Somewhere I read that if the category pages will automatically be created from the category added. So I 'happily' put in 3 categories: Lepidoptera, Nymphalidae, Limentis procris. Now the picture appears in the lepidoptera category page, nymp..page but it doesnt come listed nicely like the other ones in the nymphalidae page. After 2 hrs of trying this I'm pooped. Will go and look at creating templates now. *grin* --Viren 14:30, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

figured it out. Upload pictures without catgory and create an article with the desired category. In the article create a gallery for the pictures --Viren 15:43, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image Wanted

[edit]

Shyamal, this is a brilliant idea. Your going to have to put it on a whole lot of pages. And thanks for pointing me to the meghalaya butterflies link. its awesome. --Viren 17:41, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Take it to WP:TOL first. The taxobox has many folks' time and enregy invested in it. If you are going to add a begging to it for all of the missing images, you are going to have to convince a bunch of folks it is the right thing to do. - UtherSRG (talk) 11:50, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Taxobox format

[edit]

I think that the one I'm not using is the more up to date one, and it does take up less space. But I just keep forgetting to use it. Smallweed 12:13, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Malabar Civet

[edit]

Hi, I saw two problems with your version of the taxobox ([1]): the genus was bolded, and not a wikilink (which it should be, as there could be an article on the whole genus); and I don't like the image request: it's very ugly, and I don't think it belongs in the article. I would put an image request on the talk page. You have fixed the first reason; and the second reason on its own is not enough for me to revert. It may be a reason for further discussion. My apologies for the inadequate explanatiion for my revert; I did not have the time to explain it better at that time. Eugene van der Pijll 19:33, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

James A Murray

[edit]

Hi. Have you got any biographical info on James A Murray, author of The Edible and Game Birds of British India (1889) etc. I'm drawing a complete blank. Cheers Smallweed 12:24, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Butterflies of India moved

[edit]

Can we really say that this list is applicable for the entire South Asia?? I think it would be fair to say that each region/country would have its own lists of butterflies. Ofcourse the point at which one can atomise a region is very difficult to judge. Tommorow a person might come along and decide that list of the entire world sould be put in one place. Maybe it would be more realistic to have a page called "List of butterflies of South Asia" within that a list of all the regions/countries in the South Asian region. Right now I've just left a message on the person's page. Also I dont want ot get into a whole argument over it so if he does not agree then I'm going to continue putting in info and ...well, be tolerant of someone elses opinion. --Viren 15:06, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I think everything looks fine, so I assume u've corrected whatever you think you did wrong. If not, please point out what you feel is wrong so I can help if I can. --Viren 17:48, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
On my user page I've put up what I feel should be done about the whole South Asia change. If you feel these are ok then please begin cos tommorrow I'm gonna be innundated with work. So will only be able to get to this change the day after. The other pages in flora and fauna of india also need to be changed I think. will help you with whatever you propose.
