Response to Andrew
[edit]hey shabdiz! I just recently started getting into persian classical music and the setar, i just recently got a setar, (like two days ago, hehe) but i cant find any information on how to play them. I found information about persian music theory, but im not sure as to the specifics of how the setar is played, for example, are the melodies played on the two bottom strings (the ones closest to the ground?) and the two strings that are closer together, are they just strummed to a kind of rhythem? like the last two or three strings on the indian sitar? would you be able to possible post some of this information on the setar page if you know the answers? thanks a bunch! andrew
p.s. i have no clue how to edit this wikipedia thing or a better way to contact you, lol, so hopefuly you find this! heh
Hi Andrew, It seems that you are not a member in Wikipedia. Anyway, if you have an email you could leave it here. Sure, I know the answers and will post something in this regard. But I suggest you find yourself a teacher in your country or come to Iran for an intensive Setar or even Tar training.

[edit]Hi, and thanks for the reply. The reason for why I tagged the page is that the frontpage on the site hosting the short biography([1]) claims that "Copyright © 2000 Shayda. All rights reserved", which I interpret as the being copyrighted, and thus useage here could violate that copyright. If permission is granted for Wikipedia to use the article, it should be noted on the talkpage of the article, in order to avoid similar incidents in the future. Hope this helps! Best regards Bjelleklang - talk 15:33, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hello and thanks for your quick reply. I have added that notice on the talkpage of the article. So is it OK for me to remove the copyvio tag from the article? Or will it be done by an admin? I will post this on your talk page too.--Shabdiz 07:03, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for posting it on the talkpage. I restored the article, and unlisted it from the copyvio list. Bjelleklang - talk 08:50, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
Re: Azadeh Moaveni
[edit]No problem! I've blocked User:Amoaveni indefinitely as an imposter. Unfortunately, usernames can't be "returned", but I guess that's better than this person still being able to edit. If he/she comes back, I'll eventually have to protect the page. Bedrood, Khoikhoi 02:15, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks! Khoikhoi 07:37, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- Hmmm, I strongly suggest you list all of these users at WP:RFCU. If someone confirms them, can I can block all of them. Khoikhoi 08:25, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- No, you're supposed to list all the sockpuppets in the same request, with the sockpuppeteer (Amoaveni) listed first and all the sockpuppets following. Also please be clear in stating the policy violation in the request, which would be evasion of WP:3RR with sockpuppets. Khoikhoi 09:10, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- So, it should be titled Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Amoaveni. Khoikhoi 09:11, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- Even if he/she is blocked, we always list the sockpuppet master first. You should've done the second one that you mentioned. ;-) Do you want me to delete the requests you created by mistake? Khoikhoi 09:26, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- No problem. BTW, I've deleted the pages you created by mistake—hope you don't mind. Khoikhoi 09:46, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks, I've already blocked him. I don't think the vandalism is bad enough for the article to need semi-protection yet. We'll see how things go, ok? Khoikhoi 03:37, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- If you ever want to see real vandalism, check out Wikipedia's most vandalized pages (MVP). ;-) Khoikhoi 22:04, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Zoroastrianism
[edit]Feel free to update the portal. --JuanMuslim 1m 01:35, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
- I began the portal and encourage you to maintain it. Zoroastrianism is one of the top 10 religions in the world. That's why I made the portal.--LatinoMuslim 22:49, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
I do note that Zoroaster himself is listed under Category:Prophets, which is presumably acceptable. Otherwise, I don't see any specific subcategories of Category:Zoroastrianism which could be specifically placed in the Religious leaders category. My guess would be to be bold and create one or two such categories of Zoroastrianism, which could then be also made subcats of Religious leaders. Badbilltucker 17:21, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
Religion project
[edit]Thank you very much for joining the Religion project! There is a lot of work left to be done out there, and any input from someone who is knowledgable in a specific field is more than welcome. Oh, and by the way, don't pay too much attention to the current ridiculous format of the new Wikipedia:WikiProject Zoroastrianism/Articles page. I'm just trying to get all the categories in place, so that it'll be easier to add the articles only once, putting them in all the appropriate categories the first time. One of the things I'm probably going to have to do when the articles list is done is try to recategorize a lot of them. I really wonder how Category:Jainism qualifies as a sub-subcategory of Category:Jesus, for example. Also, any input you might have on any of the articles relating to Persian mythology would be more than welcome. I know that there is a bit of a discussion on the Talk:Mithraism page right now that is, unfortunately, pretty much over my head, and any input you might be able to give there would probably be most welcome. Also, if there is ever anything that I or the other members can do, please feel free to let me know directly or leave a message on the project's talk page. Thanks again for joining! Two Articles in need of your attention
[edit]There are two entries at Wikipedia, which have falsely created -- they are Turco-Persian and Turko-Persian Tradition. Both entries are factitious. I have requested the entries to be deleted. My reasons are:
- The term Turko-Persian Tradition (or Turco-Persian) does not exists academically and it is a factitious entry! Check the Encyclopaedia Iranica to confirm -- The correct name for that culture is the Persianate culture not the "Turko-Persian". Turkophones (mostly of mixed race and Persianized in culture) only spoke in Turkic dialects and were in the military. That is not enough participation in creating and forming the culture to deserve the name "Turko-Persian Tradition" – This is misinformation. All the elements in that area, which have to do with tradition and culture, were drawn from the Iranian culture (Persian, Kurdish, Azari, Baluchi, Tajik, Luri, Gilaki, Talishi, Mazandarani, etc.), and the Islamic faith, not much Turkic elements (like shamanism, yurts etc.) were incorporated in. That is what makes the name "Turko-Persian" an imaginary one and therefore the entry should be deleted.
Any contributions would greatly appreciated. Bā Sepās Surena 02:12, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
How factual is this article? What are the references available? Thanks. Shabdiz 12:43, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- I have always been fascinated with their history. The clan's history is based on historical and textual accounts. However, with regard to their modern history, that is not my field to comment on. However, something for sure they exist, and quite strong in Sisatn (around Zabol and Lake Hamun), also extremely secretive. Surena 11:20, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
Since "Surena", aka "ParthianShot", aka "Shapour Suren-Pahlav" himself wrote the article, you can bet that its not at all factual. -- Fullstop 14:46, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
