Guide: How to contribute climate change information to Wikipedia

Hi,

I am EMsmile, and I am a part of a group of people wishing to improve climate change-related articles on Wikipedia. We are organising the "Wiki4Climate" online edit-a-thon from 24 November to 1 December 2020. Please take part by registering here. This event is organised by the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) and Future Climate for Africa (FCFA). If you have any questions about this event, please feel free to ask on the event's talk page here. Please also join us in the event's Slack channel for easier communication and to make this into a collaborative effort. To join the Slack channel, please click here.

Here are some links about Wikipedia editing that you might find helpful when you are starting out with your Wikipedia editing journey:

Please sign your name using four tildes (~~~~) when you post on talk pages. This will automatically produce your username and the date. Look for the "tilde" character on your keyboard; for example on English keyboards it is to the left of the "enter" key (accessible with the "alt gr" key). Notifications

[edit]

Hello Severyan33 (as you see we don't usually refer to people by their real names here)

You can set your notification preferences from the "preferences" link. So I have set mine differently on Vikipedi and Wikipedia. On Vikipedi I have some articles on my "watchlist" but I have to click on the "watchlist" link. Whereas on English Wikipedia I set myself to be sent emails for some things - for example if someone mentions my user-id like this: Severyan33 or @Severyan33:. But I don't get emails just for a change of an article on my watch list. Any more questions about notifications please ask.

Contacting other editors

[edit]

I expect you already noticed these talk pages are completely public. So usually that is all we need. But often there is an "email this user" option in the rare cases where someone needs to communicate privately - for example if you were discussing how to deal with a persistent vandal and did not want them to know your plans. So feel free to email me if necessary. Chidgk1 (talk) 07:07, 26 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
