Your're welcome. Yes I'll have to edit mid day when I can see! Give it an hour or so and I'll be wheezing. I also managed to crop an image for Robert Emmett O'Connor which I believe you edited. I've been away for five days so just checking up on what people have been doing. Good work on those translations BTW ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 18:04, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Esvres

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Esvres, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. Nice job! --Gatoclass (talk) 09:28, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I have requested the deletion of many of the stubs you have created about settlements on Réunion. The source you have used contains enormous mistakes, and these places don't have any inhabitants, or no more than a few families. I am an admin from the French Wikipedia maintaining the Mascarene Portal. Moreover, I have lived on Réunion for years until last September. You can trust me. Thierry Caro (talk) 22:50, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yet, the tags have been removed. Please do something. These places are not notable at all. There are no more than two or three families. And there are no sources. Thierry Caro (talk) 13:12, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. There are a few places that are notable, indeed. But the rest are not, or do not even exist. For instance, Sous les Bois Noirs comes from nowhere, except the fact that it means "under the black trees" in French. Thierry Caro (talk) 13:54, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I would be very pleased if there was a lot of articles about Réunion out there. Here what you can have a look at:

Hello, you said to Thierry here that you didn't object to the Réunion place stubs he was concerned about - they are listed here - being deleted. I can delete them, if you are ok with that. Angus McLellan (Talk) 22:42, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for catching the state mistake. I probably copied it from a Maryland light and just didn't notice I needed to change the state. Mangoe (talk) 15:44, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at Category:Lighthouses in France, I'd say the practice thus far has been to put them in under their French name, i.e., under "Phare". Mangoe (talk) 18:49, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi any chance you could flesh it out a bit from Italian wikipedia? ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 01:29, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nice work on those lighthouses BTW. Hope you are well, I've added infobox maps to many countries of Africa now, its gradually improving. Pakistan, Syria, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and China though are serious countries to add them to. Have a look at Coffee production in Costa Rica. I have red linked the other countries in template and will get around to starting them some time. Everytime I look at that article I can smell the coffee! My head just blows up everytime I think how much is missing or browse through missing lists or the web or books! ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 01:39, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. The problem is that when there is so much to do either with expanding existing articles or creating/translating new content, I find it difficult to concentrate on one task or area that needs developing so much thats sometimes I don't know where to start!! It literally does give me a headache thinking about it sometimes. I guess we can only play our part, we can't be expected to create thousands of new detailed articles from missing lists manually by ourselves. Editor of the wiki told me there are over tow million articles needing translation from other wikis alone! Aaarhgh! ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 01:52, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ouch. I've just been browsing polish wikipedia and the missingf content is incredible. See Polish geologists etc etc. There are supposed to be a total of two million article missing from all the wikipedias aren't there? ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 13:13, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I've just been browsing through some of the foreign wikipedias its really huge. the whole wikipedia project isn't it. I know I was looking at some US articles and Canadian ones the other day -remember the Canadian mountain encyclopedia. I was quite surpised how much missing American content there is and how undeveloped many of the community articles are. There just seems to be a complete focus on American culture and sport above anything else so even some important American geographical or wildlife articles are sub standard while we have frickin full articles on some low league baseball team season. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 13:21, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi could you AWB this to Category:Cities, towns and villages in Selangor. I'm half way through sorting out Malaysia. I did Lebanon earlier in the week

P.S. have a look at these nice images I found on my travels

♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 18:18, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I was just telling Shahid I'm fortunate to have travelled all across Malaysia from SIngapore up to Georgetown, Penang in a coach. Tioman Island and Bintan I also visited and it was out of this world!! Bintan was probably the most unspoilt place I;ve ever been with the exception of Lombok. On the Malaysia trip back in 1998 (I can't believe it was 10 years ago its scary) we went up into the Cameron Highlands mountains where I met some native hunters and had a look at there tools and mouth device for firing arrows. SO primitive it was like meeting people from the stone age. It was awesome. If you have time you could do Category:Towns in Perak into Category:Cities, towns and villages in Perak, I made a good start on it. Once that is done I think we have Malaysia ALL reorganized. Infoboxes can be added gradually ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 19:36, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wow that was freakishly quick!!!!!! I've sepnt ages sorting it today!!!Glad its done. Hope you can help sometime in the future with sorting SOuth Africa, Colombia and Argentina out. Many thanks,. Regards ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 20:26, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think you did Egypt before didn't you? Well the sub categories in Category:Towns in South Africa need moving to Cities, towns and villages by province. I also started on Pakistan but categorizing by district. I'm not sure if you can use AWB to sort by district however ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 20:31, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cool I've set it up ready at Category:Cities, towns and villages in South Africa. Thanks ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 20:48, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've checked out Pakistan. I think I did the biggy anyway by sorting out Punjab. There was a large number of articles on that region so splitting by district was necessary. However for the others at present it would probably be best to keep by region, so this will make your job much easier. Apart from moving Category:Villages in Gujar Khan into Category:Cities, towns and villages in Rawalpindi District all you need to do now is to move the articles in the subcategories in e.g Category:Cities, towns and villages in Balochistan into this category and so on with the other regions. If you see Category:Cities, towns and villages in Pakistan you'll see I've organized it, but the Category:Cities and towns and/or Villages in .. under eahc one need putting into the main categories. COol ? ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 11:48, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've had a look at Colombia, There is a 700 in the one category but reorganizing by department might be difficult unless we go by the nav templates which house many articles in a department within it. So that could go on hold for now until the articles are at least cleaned up. Other than this Argentina remains. Most of the articles are located in e.g Settlements in Buenos Aires Province and Cities in Buenos Aires Province etc. The articles in the two categories for each province will need merging later. I can't think of much more that needs changing for now other than a handful of countries which need splitting by region. Naturally I would like to change some of the European ones but I am "not entitled to" so I guess I'll have to leave them. Regards ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 14:04, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yep I know. Ohhh dear I've still got those French communes to complete!!! I was hoping the new geobot could add the remaining ones. Where did you say you were living again. Wasn't it Texas? No it was Virginia wasn't it I remember now. That explains why you have done a lot of work on your home state! ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 14:13, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My parents visited Virginia and North Carolina last summer and loved it. The Great Smoky Mountains etc. Very beautiful part of the country. I love the Rockies too one holiday I flew to Seattle and travelled up to Banff and Jasper and then down into Montana and Idaho and then Yellowstone etc. Loved it, but Yellowstone was quite a sad place with the dead trees from the 1988 fire. Spokane, Washington was abismal. Our motel there wasn't the best and was in a rough neighborhood and we put our suitcases behind the door just in case!! Complete opposite to the luxury lodge we stayed at in Banff!! My sister just returned from ALaska (after a trip to Ecuador and Galapagos. Unbelievably she returned home to the UK for just hours. After a nights sleep she flew off last week to begin an 8 week trek across SOuth America. She flew to Rio and is heading across Brazil up into Bolivia and visiting cool towns like Potosi on the way to La Paz and Lake Titicaca. Then she going into Peru to Cuzco and Macchu Picchu and then up the Peruvian coast to Lima. Not bad eh? ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 14:31, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh yeah I know they're nothing alike, you can see that by pictures anyway. Anyway different parts of the Rockies look different anyway to other places within that mountain chain. My parents also went to a town I think it was called something like Colonial Williamsburg where they dress up in 17th or 18th gear. There was also some mill they visited which was supposed to have state significance. Yes I love the mountains too, I've always wanted to go to Swtizerland and the Alps. Some Christmas I'll catch a plane and go skiing I think!! I wonder whether I should reopen my "lair" at Piz Gloria LOL ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 14:47, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds great. You majored in art right? I come from an artistic family, my father and his brothers and sisters are either painters or writers. I've always had a great interest in art although I've always been more talented at writing rather than art. My dad painted me a large painting of a lush blue sea and ships in a port in Tahiti. The color is amazing!!. I;ve requested him to paint a mountain scenery of Tibet now! Yes in the UK the year 1066 sort of marks an important change and sort of marks the line between "ancient" and more modern history. I believe some of our best known universites and colleges like Oxford date back to around this time and even colleges like Eton were built around 1440. I bet British and European history of this period is fascinating to many Americans all our Kings and Queens and Kings getting shot in the eye and beheaded etc!! I find American history very interesting too particularly the Dutch influence and the American Civil War and naturally the Native Indians. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 15:03, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No see Category:Cities, towns and villages in Pakistan. Now select any one of them. e.g Category:Cities, towns and villages in North-West Frontier Province. There shouldn't be any sub categories of this the cities and towns category and villages category should be merged. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 18:33, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah yes you missed Cities, towns and villages in North-West Frontier Province, Cities, towns and villages in the Northern Areas of Pakistan and Cities, towns and villages in Sindh ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 18:36, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I noticed you had done a few of the others. Many thanks. After Pakistan there is Argentina...Whenever you feel like doing any... ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 18:40, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent. Most of the articles are located in e.g Settlements in Buenos Aires Province and Cities in Buenos Aires Province etc. The articles in the two categories for each province will need merging into Category:Cities, towns and villages in Buenos Aires Province etc ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 19:17, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sure will do in about 5 minutes I'll let you know when I've done it. Unfortunately I'm having a lot of server difficulties so it keeps locking me or delaying me to edit pages! ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 19:20, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK you can follow the progress at Category:Cities, towns and villages in Argentina. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 19:36, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mmm the only thing is all the articles in categpry Category:Settlements in Buenos Aires Province needed empty. Perhaps it would be easier for you to add the cities, towns and villages category to all of them first and then empty the settlement category by AWB category removal of Settlements in Buenos Aires Province afterwards. Ideally they need to go in just the one category ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 19:43, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What I mean is if you look at Mercedes, Corrientes that you added the category to. It is still categorized as Category:Settlements in Corrientes which shouldn't be there. It just means you have to edit them twice ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 19:55, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Any idea what happened to the ones in Category:Cities in La Rioja Province (Argentina)? ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 20:13, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 20:20, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not quite, Check the first couple of provinces in Cat:Cities, towns and villages in Argentina in the "c"s and "d"s. You;ll see I had begun moving the settlements out. You;ve missed the first couple like Category:Settlements in Chaco Province etc ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 20:52, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And Category:Settlements in Córdoba Province (Argentina). You're doing amazingly quick. Much quicker than I thought it could be done!! ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 20:56, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know thats what I meant earlier when I said that some of them will need to be done twice to rid of the "settlement" cat. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 20:58, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome!!! Finished! Just kitted out the cats with maps and commons links. Looks really presentable and clear now. I was amazed how uneven the coverage is in Argentina. Most of the articles are in Buenos Area or in the north east of the country. SOme provinces only have like 2 articles on towns, SPanish wikipiedia has about 80+. Thanks for your help.

I've made a start on Cuba, it needs cities and towns into the main cat. There is also Greenland, China, and the Koreas to do. Not sure about Croatia yet even though I did SLovenia. Depends on what the system is. No rush. When ever you feel like starting another one in a few days or a week or whatever let me know. Best regards ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 22:05, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dont know the coordinates for the places in Virginia. Using Maplandia I'm reckon you could find them. Its only a case of entering the coordinates in the infobox takes ten seconds. Oh there was one other country, Dominican Republic ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 15:41, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Could you provide me an a link to an article thats need one and I'll do a couple if possible. Unspecified source for Image:MountEatonOH.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:MountEatonOH.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Hi. I've recently completed translating La Palma, Chalatenango. However for some reason I keep losing the geography section. It is hiding a paragraph and merging it with history at present. I think it is probably a referencing fault. Could you see what the problem is, I can't seem to figure what is causing the problem ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 19:55, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Yes Fritz said he is having trouble with the bot coding. Hes probably still a bit busy with his house and his impending FA on Robert Kennedy's demise anyway. I did ask a few days ago if he really did intend ever running it and almost felt like I was putting too much pressure on him to start it, as it should be done in his own time not when somebody demands it. But he has assured me that it will run soon enough and I believe him. It would be nice to start putting it to some use thats for sure, particularly as it has been authorised and the new GEOBOT project set up! ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 20:22, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I wish I could speak french and italian fluently. Oh you;d pick it up in hours probably. Yes I also nabbed La Guerra Gaucha which looked very interesting. In the pipeline I have mis ojos (my eyes) set on translating the 1932 El Salvador peasant uprising from here and National Highway 7 in Argentina from here. These are beasts and probably too much for me to handle alone so I'll probably stick to continuing to develop medium sized articles from stubs or start the missing ones where info is available. These days I've given up on stubbing the places that can't be expanded at present and am concentrating on areas i know can develop fully quickly if possible. My hope is by the time these areas have developed more info will be avialable for many of the places in Africa and third world Asia to develop them fully later. Its probably not such a bad thing for me to focus on a certain area more. I have however proposed a new African National Parks project which is another area I will be focusing on, as there is actually a lot of info available for these places because of the conservationists, unlike most other topics and areas of Africa. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 21:26, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh yes in anglophone countries and others where there are an abundance of english speaking contributers, english wikipedia makes all the other wikipedias look very small scale and under developed. Hi. I added about 100 Costa Rican politician stubs the other night in Category:Costa Rican politicians. I took for granted the stub category didn't exist and just added CostRica-bio-stub but it does. I know thats what I meant when I said before that the Germans and the Dutch appear to be better wikipedians than many of the people on English wikipedia. The only reason why they aren't more developed than us in terms of size is because of the massive difference in the number of users. I've always said the Dutch and the Germans have their priorities sorted and seem to have the most notable articles or traditionally encyclopedia articles up to scratch or referenced when they are either missing on here or in a shoddy state even in countries like the United States and the Anglosphere ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 21:15, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it is odd that. I've been surprised how developed some of the articles are on countries like Mexico and Honduras on German and Dutch wikipedia. Also wildlife in countries Gambia are very developed on German wikipedia. I guess people have different interests, some of them seemingly obscure in relation to their national heritage. Many people have said that to me that they have been surprised by the sort of content I've added on here, one being am Argentine cinema pioneer I started on here whose great grandson told me he was very surprised to see his article on here! ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 21:23, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know, groan groan, whenever I hit the new page patrol I end up speedy tagging most of the cruft that a high proportion of our editors seem to enjoy. When I was 14 I was out playing football and meeting girls, can't remember ever looking at a juvenile comic without throwing it in the bin!! If you are referring to those modern teen sitcoms I know exactly what you mean. Some of the 90s mainstream sitcoms were tolerable but the stuff that appears on cable these days is REALLY awful! ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 21:37, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was referring to British comedy in the 1990s some of the more adult orientated sitcoms were great in the UK such as Game On (BBC television) and Men Behaving Badly. 90s British television was quite excellent particularly comedy. Naturally Fawlty Towers and Monty Python were quite superb. I rarely ever watch TV these days as it has become so bad. Such shows of course are radically different from some of the plastic teeny bopper shows from the US. Even I though was guilty of watching Saved by the Bell, Friends, Dawson's Creek and some episodes of Buffy (chiefly for Sarah Michelle Gellar) when I was younger as most people did. Personally though I've always preferred cult telelvision from the 1960s and 1970s such as The Avengers, Randall and Hopkirk Deceased, Rockford Files and A-Team from the US. I've never been a fan of sci-fi TV such as Star Trek or Doctor Who. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 11:15, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unbelievable. The last few districts of Chihuahua I've started have almost add up to an area of 100,000km2 yet they were atill missing!! Its not even that far from Texas. On average each of the municipalities has like 5,000 km2. Its quite ridiculous that nobody has started them yet, yet we have articles on post boxes and pillars. The Bald One White cat 21:06, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It really is awful to see the red links on Municipalities of Jalisco and Municipalities of Oaxaca. Its practically the heart of Mexico. By now we should have full articles on each of them but 90% are not even started. Then you hit the new pages and see many new pages like Joe Bloggs born 1992 is a American soccer player or 2008 Cincinatti Red Fluffers under 14s handball team season articles started or WOOOOOO! type web comics. I completely agree how frustrating it is to know how much work needs doing starting them let alone translating them into decent articles. A lot of visitors to this site haven't got much of an idea to be honest. Many either spent the majority of their times at ANI in useless conflict, or on popular culture articles from anglophone countries. Don't get me wrong, many editors are doing a great job with developing wikipedia and in parts it has an amazing coverage but you know what I mean in terms of distribution of editors and lack of productivity of some people on here in the mainspace. It would just be good to try to get more of a workforce on weak areas of the project. Perhaps we should propose the creation of a time wasting counter for the main page. Number of hours wasted in conflict without article enhancement.. The Bald One White cat 21:40, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh yeah its getting better by the day undoubtedly, since my time on here I've seen an enormous growth and improvement, the main problem for me is lack of consistency and quality. Random search through any category and I guarantee you'll find more stubs or unreferenced articles than the good stuff. But the potential is endless and it will keep on growing, perhaps more slowly in parts than we'd hoped for but it will get there whatever it takes. Translation needed

[edit]

Hi can you translate this for me:

Hey are you OK?? Would you be interested in getting this onto English wikipedia? The History of Senegal article is poor The Bald One White cat 10:16, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to here that you can't edit much these days. Yes I'd thought of that translation idea a long time ago, the problem is on many of the wikipedias there are certain articles which really are not notable, particularly on the lesser wikipedias on some people which put their profiles on there when they are not of world note and probably should be deleted. However the majority of articles missing should be valid and it would definately be a good idea for a bot to list them, but this also would be problematic in that it may not read foreign writing or mix things up and list articles we already have. The Bald One White cat 14:19, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yup, filtering for notability. One problem though. Who is going to check 8 million articles for notability!! The Bald One White cat 16:21, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You could propose something to the missing encyclopedia articles group to set up a transwiki task force or something and create a gigantic directory. I;ve just see Wikipedia:WikiProject London Transport/Participants. 70 people working on buses, trains and txis in a city and we only have like 3 consistent editors working on the whole of Southeast Asia for instance The Bald One White cat 17:09, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Japan/Dam templates. Using the commons I'm getting them all onto english wikipedia from japanese. What would work best is if we had a super intelligent translation package which could translate any article on any of the 250 wiki into the language of request at the touch of a button. undoubtedly this would probably help the small wikis a great deal more than it would help us but if Jimbo is serious about "the sun of all knowledge to anybody in their own language" he seriously needs to think about how this can be achieved. The Bald One White cat 17:23, 10 October 2008 (UTC) Hi I;ve cocked up the referencing on Catedral de San Nicolás el Magno. Can you see why it is isn't listing at the bottom? The Bald One White cat 16:04, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I fixed it thats why! Have a look also at Rionegro, Antioquia. What we want is every municipalitiy in Latin America up to a similar length, Colombia has a huge amount of potential from spanish wiki. I think I'll start the category reordering by department The Bald One White cat 16:29, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, yes its funny that as you are eating breakfast I've just eaten my dinner of rice and vegetables with prawns and potato smilies!! Apple crumble with custard for afters now!! Well what I need is to name every municipality (which virrtually always has a main town) in the category:cities towns and villages by department. I'll create the empty categories now and later the Category:Cities, towns and villages in Colombia will need emptying and organizing into departments. The Bald One White cat 16:35, 11 October 2008 (UTC) OK I;ve begun creating categories. For instance all the articles in Category:Municipalities of Antioquia need a Category:Cities, towns and villages in the Antioquia Department. You see, given the lack of coverage at present all of the towns are in the same stub articles as the municipalities In reality they are municipalities with a main town and many other settlements. So for starters tall of the municipality articles need categorising in this way The Bald One White cat 17:10, 11 October 2008 (UTC) For instance see Barbosa, Antioquia. IN the process we need to also remove the main colombian category as we disperse them The Bald One White cat 17:12, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nope. What I mean is that we need the two sets of categories, given that at present the articles are on both the municipalities and the main towns. For instance think of the county you live in and think of the largest town. FOr instance with COlombia these are together in the same article. So at present we need both categories. Basically it is going through all the municipalities and adding the relevant department city cat, and removing the general Category:Cities, towns and villages in COlombia cat until it is empty. Understand? For instance see Barbosa, Antioquia now. This is has been correctly altered. See the diff. With many municipalities though they aren't categorised consistently as cities, towns and villages also so often we may need to add the category rather than alter the existing main colombian one. The Bald One White cat 19:09, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I;m afraid I may have offended Fritz by being honest to him. Its only because I want to seem something happen. See our discussion on his talk page later. I hope "fingers crossed) he will start on Monday with the lists. If we can get a full list of places by country with coordinates/map and basics this would be an enormous step towards full coverage on here The Bald One White cat 19:15, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes thats perfect, extremely quick. If you could continue with the other departments, I;v ejust added an infobox to Abejorral. Every one of these places should have a standard box and categories". With them organized by department it will also be considerably easier to improve the articles in chucnks rather than 700 in one cat! Unleash the AWB again now then! The Bald One White cat 19:42, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It'll probably be easier to empty Category:Cities, towns and villages in Colombia afterwards and programme the AWB to remove this category from the articles. As long as this category is empty by the end it will have been a task very well done. Best The Bald One White cat 19:54, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mmm thats not quite as straightforward as re categorizing!, if you could paste a list of places into the infoboxes I;d be happy to help you format/dab them. I do have a huge amount on my plate at present what with Wikipedia:WikiProject Nepal/District templates, Wikipedia:WikiProject Japan/Dam templates and working through sorting out the Mexican municipalities, amongst adding the Colombian infboxes etc. Leave a list in the templates and I can help format them. It surprises me more editors aren't working on them. I know I always say about the huge unevenness between US and UK and the rest of the world on here, but within US on here the balance is really uneven, e.g theres porbably at least a 1000 editors who work on baseball or football related articles and probably less that 20 working on articles on rural Virginia or Idaho or something. The Bald One White cat 21:20, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know that is very worrying. I'm sure you feel like the only editor working on them which is extremely poor given the scope of this site. I almost always feel like I'm the only one doing what I do, even with two editors working on something e.g you and editor of the wiki helping from time to time it makes a bid difference, imaine what could be done if more people worked together on a more regular basis rather than slagging each other off for "misconduct" at ANI. Given the size of the United States and population who have access to wikipedia and even edit ir from time to time I am amazed at some of the missing content we still have on here, museums, places, mountains, lakes etc. Canada too. Best thing to get such articles up and running would be by bot, and yes that goes for articles from other wikis too The Bald One White cat 21:28, 11 October 2008 (UTC) Eesh, I've done the Meta Department already its ticked on the list!! You'll be pleased to know I've not only corrected all the errors but have completed all of the recats. However I;ve shrunk the main cat down to 155. I;ve had enough now, could you please empty it completely. Thanks The Bald One White cat 17:00, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well done. Ahh I hate the attitude of some of the people I encounter on here, so negative, and well just don't have any social skills whatsoever. Why can't people on here be a bit more like you, and some of the others? The Bald One White cat 20:19, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well with some people every day is like that. Life is too short to bear ill feeling towards people. If people don't like me thats their problem, you can't please everybody. Anyway have a read of my "blog" of By Any Means. Somebody had to write an account of it, which I have been updating every week until it finished tonight. An interesting trip? The Bald One White cat 21:19, 12 October 2008 (UTC) Looks like a passionate proposal, one I would naturally support and reflects exactly what I;ve been thinking. Whether the "community" is willing to enter the twenty-first century I don't know. When you have time check out by newly expanded articles Cristóbal Rojas and Xalapa. Xalapa I think I just about have it from a start class to GA in a few hours. Blofeld of SPECTRE (talk) 21:15, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

lighthouses redux

[edit]

Hey, we all have bad days, and I for one cannot find many old conversations here on wikipedia. I do recall my comment in the lighthouse vs. light naming discussion, which happened in several specific lighthouse articles and also at wikiproject lighthouses perhaps. I think i was throwing in the complication that NRHPs are usually named light stations, and that station is the broader name, posing that it would not be helpful to have to write a separate article about the rest of the station vs. the lighthouse itself. I think that was a non-issue, and the general debate about calling them lights vs. lighthouses died down. Anyhow, thanks for following up.
