Restoring unsourced trivia

Hi Seashorewiki, I reported the above Ip on the ANI page. The user above removed some sourced lines from one of the House episode pages I edit as well,when I cited another source he renamed the section as trivia then tagged it as miscellaneous with a edit message that it will be removed in a month. If you want to comment on his position, you can leave a comment on the ANI page section about the IP user above. I think we have something in common here and I support your position if it helps, one anon IP user should not get to decide what other people contribute especially if its sourced. Theo10011, decisions about what is acceptable on Wikipedia are not determined by majority rule. They are determined by existing policy, or consensus (consensus is not the same as majority: see WP:CON). You should also know that unilaterally contacting other editors to try to sway consensus can be a policy violation. Read WP:CANVAS. I did not violate any policy by removing unsourced trivia. Unsourced trivia should be removed, and the sourced items in trivia sections should eventually be moved out of trivia sections and into the other parts of the article. If you wish to change that standard on Wikipedia, the way to do it is to raise the issue at WT:TRIV or another appropriate policy forum rather than encouraging edit warring on existing articles. Again, you can cite guidelines and policy all you want, but there applicability and usage differs case to case thats why they are called guidelines instead of rules, there hasn't been any absolute violation of a guideline or policy its subjective. You warned seashorewiki and I informed him of my dissenting position and support of he wants to pursue the matter, his decision -you don't get to decide for him. If you think I have committed any policy violations here than by all mean get a neutral third party's opinion. Again my issue with you is not removal of trivia sections its the autocratic approach to first define or redefine a section as trivia, and then with the same authority remove it without so much as mentioning your position or giving other editors a chance to cite sources or disagree with you, if they revert your edits you respond with the same autocratic attitude or warn editors like seashorewiki here in a condescending manner like above. --Theo10011 (talk) 18:59, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia operates according to guidelines and policy. If you want to make an exception for a particular article, or if you want to change a general policy, do it on the appropriate forum, which is not WP:ANI. Fine, I have made my position and I dont plan on dragging this out further as well. the only thing that irked me were threats of policy violation, it really doesn't mean anything to me, either get someone involved and make your case or dont- stop threatening. Just an observation though, your repeated citations of policy presents a paradox since by definition Wikipedia guidelines are formed by a community consensus or in other words a majority rule and you are using those same guidelines to argue against a majority rule.--Theo10011 (talk) 20:00, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"a community consensus or in other words a majority rule": This clearly shows an utter failure to understand consensus (or perhaps a failure to even read WP:CON). But that doesn't surprise me. Consensus is not "majority rule". And even if it was, exactly what "majority rule" am I arguing against. Hi seashorewiki, I just read your message on my page and wanted to let you know I understand your position. As for the issue here, the cultural reference section from my edits had 3 sources, the argument was about if there is a need for trivia section all together, apparently there are guidlines against it. I still think a small unsourced cultural reference or trivia section is pretty harmless if it doesnt go against any other wiki policy, the IP user believes they all need to go. Also, For future use if you ever need sources for trivia from Tv episodes, allusions etc. you might want to look at TV.com, they have a small trivia section on episode guide, I used it for house episode guides. Hope this helps, and again I agree with you on your position, they is no argument from me, Its the anon Ip user above who had the problem. Edit warring and restoring unsourced information

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Known Unknowns. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period. Additionally, users who perform several reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. When in dispute with another editor you should first try to discuss controversial changes to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Should that prove unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. Many other personalities/actors don't have a "reliable source" reference for their birth dates (e.g. Olivia Wilde, Octavia Spencer, probably nearly every other personality/actor on Wikipedia.) The fact that other articles may contain unsourced biographical information does not justify the addition of more in violation of our policies concerning biography of living persons. Where you find that key information in a BLP is unsourced, you are free to use the {{citation needed}} template, to bring the issue to the attention of other editors on the article's Talk page, or, if you are unable to locate any reliable source for the information, to remove it.
