Corrections for Soprano Venera Gimadieva
[edit]Dear Seanetienne,
Thank you for your contribution to the page named above. Please avoid placing the Russian patronymic on the artist's page in English, as the patronymic is not used in the international context and maybe confusing for the audience. Thank you!
AnaWitts (talk) 08:18, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
- Appreciate that you voiced your concern and your willingness to communicate, AnaWitts. The idea of adding the patronymic is from the layout of the Anna Netrebko article and limited knowledge (from wiki) of native customs. Given the broad usage of patronymic, both official and colloquial, I opt a fair representation approach. Perhaps its better to fully disclose like the Anna Netrebko article, which is to show the patronymic for representation and add Template:Eastern Slavic name in avoidance of confusion. Thank you for raising this issue! I'll apply this method to the Russian singer articles I work on. --Seanetienne (talk) 10:25, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you for understanding. I don't think that Anna Netrebko's Wiki page, as wonderful as the singer is, should necessarily be the pattern for all further pages for opera singers from Russia. As a Russian by descent living in Europe, I can testify that even in Russia patronymics are used primarily in a formal context - in court, in job applications etc. It is perfectly possible that someone can carry their patronymic around the world with them but in the case of this artist, her name is well-known in Europe as Venera Gimadieva, not Venera Faritovna Gimadieva. I see no reason why this should be confused by adding the patronymic to already well-known stage name. So in Russian speaking sources, the patronymic might be perfectly welcome and understood by the reader, in other languages they might be ill-advised in certain situations. But neither do I think you should apply it to all of the pages you might be working on consequently - this should be decided on a case-by-case basis. I can see how sometimes the patronymic might be the only element that distinguishes two otherwise identical names. Good luck!
P.S. Please don't forget to sign your communication by adding 4 tilde symbols in the end of the message. AnaWitts (talk) 10:59, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
- I see. Seeing that the usage of patronymics is actually limited even in Russia, there's no need to retain it. Thank you for your continual contribution (creation & updating/improvement) to Venera Gimadieva's page. This is quite a substantial exchange, so maybe we can link this on active platforms to bring in more discussion. Chances are this can eventually become a guideline~ What do you think? --Seanetienne (talk) 13:29, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
- I am sure there are already guidelines on how to use patronymic in the Russian language. And, as I said, I'd use it depending on the circumstances. Take care! AnaWitts (talk) 14:47, 11 September 2019 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Singers of Taiwanese opera
[edit]A tag has been placed on Category:Singers of Taiwanese opera requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia
[edit]The categories "Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia Alumni" and "Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia Faculty" should not be merged with those of the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia. The Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia is a completely different school to the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia. The Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia only accepts graduate students who have completed their "conservatorio" training. The Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia only offers "corsi di perfezionamento", or post graduate courses, unlike the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia, which only offers undergraduate courses. The Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia is a school in its own right, with totally separate, exclusively postgraduate courses.See https://santacecilia.it/alta-formazione/corsi-di-perfezionamento/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by LivingMuse (talk • contribs) 03:36, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
- OMG, thank you so much for informing this. It would be easier to undo if the categories were "merged", but in this case they are "renamed"... After reading the Italian Wikipedia articles even carefully, I learned that the conservatorio gained independence of the Accademia at one point. It's clear from your statement that all the Accademia's students come from the conservatorio, but do they share faculty as well? Sorry for unable to pursue further due to language incapability. It'll be a project to distinguish to which institute the musicians are/were actually associated: ex. Marina Rebeka, all sources claim that she graduated from the "conservatorio".
