Greetings,

This page is significant to the geographical area i live in due to my personal , family and local history including the recent tornado that hit our town.

This also includes a historical account of the settling of the area as well as famous person's in my lineage as well as my personal accomplishments and how they relate to history itself as in local history and the signifance of the storms hitting the town and how i was able to help. i am having a article written for the state defense force online magazine about me as well.

How do I put this in as a bigraphical article and in a proper format?

Thanks,

Sean Ross Sean Peyton Ross (talk) 02:20, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sean, I've addressed some of these points in my reply back on my talk page - User_talk:Demiurge1000#Sean peyton Ross wiki page (now moved into a separate section below. Just to re-emphasise some of what's written there, it is really very difficult for an individual even with very significant personal and local accomplishments, to meet the notability requirements that Wikipedia has for there being an article about the person. To give you an example, Wikipedia's military history project has a section WP:SOLDIER that lists criteria that, if any one criterion were met, would mean a person can be presumed to be notable enough for there to be an article about them. The first of these criteria is that the person has won a Medal of Honor - the third of the criteria is that the person reached the rank of general.
For information about the town's history, the best place would be in the article about the town. If no article exists about your town, it would be great to create one (WP:AfC is the place to start). All towns are presumed notable enough for there to be an article about them. However, it's not really appropriate to write about yourself, and in any case all information added to Wikipedia should be backed up by a reference to an independent reliable source. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 06:01, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings,

I will have the diplomas, and other documents to backup my story as well as an article from the GSDF e- magazine about me during the tornado, I am about through with my part on myself, I have added my fathers part and it contains a part of notable history. his part will also tell of and about a little known mission during World War 2 to Greenland where his unit froze to death save for 12 or 13 men including my father. It will feature his father and the grist mill that helped build and sustain the area it was located. it will also cover Robert Selfridge on my mothers side and his part of the American Revolution including his burial place so that future generations of historians will know his final resting place.

It also covers her families links to the Sherwood, King and Harper Families that help build McDonough and Henry Counties in Georgia. Her part will include her grandmother who was full blooded Cherokee indian who hid in an attic to escape the trail of tears and my mother family connections to Chief William McIntosh. I will also show the location where they stopped in McDonough due to the measles, and buried scores of Indians behind the family cemetary. Furthermore I posted in my families part of the War efforts and wars we have served in and all together each peice maybe not noteworthy enough for Wikipedia but the entire body of the work should be enough stand the test especially when linked to similar articles on similar subjects. I feel this information would enhance existing files and be a productive part of Wikipedia.

Thank you for your time Sean Ross Sean Peyton Ross (talk) 20:57, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think many of these things should go into the related articles about the topics in question, rather than being collected on a separate page whose only relevance is that each snippet of information is connected with yourself in some way. If the Greenland mission was a sizeable unit and there has been significant coverage of the mission elsewhere, then that one would probably merit a separate article of its own. I've been doing quite a lot of work recently on Wikipedia's coverage of glider-borne troops, including articles related to Operation Varsity.
I should emphasise again, that many details simply won't be relevant for Wikipedia, and are better covered on websites concerned with local history, or websites concerned with genealogy.
The Volksplane article would probably be an ideal place to start adding information, since if you already own published books about the aircraft, then you know the information you're adding is of the sort that Wikipedia needs.
One idea that may appeal to you, though, is the ability to create a "book" on Wikipedia consisting of a number of articles of your own choice; this can then even be ordered as a "real" printed book in a variety of formats. Take a quick look at Help:Books to get an idea. Essentially, you could put together a book consisting of articles like Georgia State Defense Force, Henry County, Georgia, McDonough, Georgia, William McIntosh, Evans VP-1 Volksplane, the mission in Greenland (if you create an article about it), and anything else relevant to yourself and your family's history, and then not only keep it freely available online, but also order printed copies of it, professionally bound. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 05:18, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Demiurge 1000,

I am active in the georgia State Defense Force, The picture is my own taken by my son for me to use here. Also I do happen to be friends with Akiho Yoshizawa, I am friend with her on facebook and she likes my page and link very much, I am also friends with the person whose link to 1 english 1 world to which he owns personally as well. Look her up on facebook, join friends and ask her about me if you wish.

Also all persons listed are my family as well, they want me to post my technical acheivements and my humanitarian acheivement here. I do this not as a social page but a page that will provide reference to me for later generations both family and non family and the current public. You may contact me at (redacted) for further questions Sean Peyton Ross (talk) 00:28, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sean, thank you for getting back to me. I've blanked your email address above (although anyone wishing to contact you directly can find it in the page history), as spambots sometimes use these pages to harvest email addresses. I've also struck (retracted) a couple of my comments on Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Sean Peyton Ross, as I accept in good faith the statements you make regarding the persons mentioned on the page.
The difficulty is that Wikipedia user pages are not for providing reference information for later generations, family and friends or the general public; "they may be used only to present information relevant to working on the encyclopedia". Obviously, if you were planning to help in editing Wikipedia articles, then the page would be acceptable, since information about your skills, expertise and qualifications would be relevant to other contributors working with you. But user pages do not exist for you to provide biographical information about yourself that appears to resemble an actual Wikipedia article that is a biography of someone (the other policy I linked you to, specifically says that userpages "should not be used to indefinitely host pages that look like articles"). In my view (although I don't get to make the decision) the page cannot be kept unless you intend to edit real Wikipedia articles to improve the encyclopedia.
There are many other free websites that allow you to maintain such a page; some of them can be found at Wikipedia:Alternative outlets.
As a side note, the deletion discussion does not in any way affect the photo of yourself that you uploaded; this will remain on Wikimedia Commons and you're able to link to it from elsewhere or embed it on other sites (for example Wikia which uses similar software to Wikipedia.) --Demiurge1000 (talk) 01:14, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Demiurge1000,

I see what you are saying. How do I input this as a proper biography that current to past, current and future readers and events.

I need this page put in the biography section of this encyclopedia, i have read alot of articles and wish to submit more on antique electronics and radio and homebuilt aircraft.

I am not trying to use this wikipedia as a webhosting service. You would not remove a politician, muscian, actor or actress, nor other persons page, Yes I am not famous, but I have many acheivments I have made to this world and in my humanitarian endeavors.

Sean Peyton Ross

Based on your statement that you intend to contribute to Wikipedia articles in the future, I have withdrawn the deletion nomination.
However, it is very likely the case that Wikipedia is simply not the place for the type of page that you wish to create. For it to become a proper biography (in the correct place on Wikipedia, so that it would be an actual article, not a userpage) then it would be necessary to demonstrate that the subject of the article has received significant coverage in independent reliable sources. This is quite difficult to do, especially since, for example, publications by the Georgia State Defense Force would not be considered independent, and sites such as Facebook et cetera are generally not considered reliable.
So I really do strongly recommend considering one of the other sites (linked above) if you wish to create a comprehensive biography page about yourself.
(We have in fact removed a great many pages about politicians, musicians, actors and actresses if they do not meet the requirement of having received significant coverage in independent reliable sources; in fact, they are getting removed every day.) --Demiurge1000 (talk) 03:13, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings Demiurge1000

I will be adding local history to the Town of barnesville as well as Collouden in and Monroe County, My family helped to build that area and farm it and run a grist mill from the 1790's to date. Barnesville was founded around 1820-1830. Also I will include my father who was a gliderman in World War2 as well as back it up with photographic evidence and his awards that can be verified from the veterans administration as well. I will also be writing about Robert Selfridge and will be correcting any mistakes in his history as he was my mothers great great grandfather. he was a general in the American revolution and is buried in the family Cemetary in henry County georgia, I will provide GPS coordinates to his grave as well. I would be honored to do work on the Evans Volksplane Wikipedia as i have all the history, plans to build it and pages and books on its subtypes and various modifications of it in Europe and Australia.
