A tag has been placed on ScylarA/sandbox requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.mercatus.org/publication/benefits-free-trade-addressing-key-myths. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. –Ammarpad (talk) 05:13, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Article deletion, copyright

[edit]

Hello, I noticed that you had posted content that had previously been published elsewhere to your article. This is seen as a copyright issue and plagiarism, even if you were to include the original source as a citation. Always be careful when writing article content - a good way to avoid doing this is to take notes while reading and write your article from those notes. Unless the material is explicitly marked as falling into the public domain or was released under a compatible Creative Commons license, it should be assumed that the content is copyrighted in a way that would prohibit it from being used verbatim elsewhere. It's always best to write things in your own words, as this can help prevent issues like this from arising. Now as far as government material goes, you can use it as long as you attribute it properly. Part of the issue with this is that you didn't note that this was taken from the government website. The other material was copyrighted and as such, isn't able to be posted. You also took content from other Wikipedia articles and it didn't look like you attributed it in your edit summary. I would like for you to review the module on plagiarism and copyright.

Now as far as the article goes, this need to have in-line citations to help show where you're getting claims. The work should also be written in your own words. Finally, before you transfer content out of your sandbox you need to make sure that you clean up all of the notes and other non-article content. Something else to take into consideration is that any content on the benefits or drawbacks of international trade should be in the main article - I don't know that this really needs its own separate article, to be honest. Speedy deletion nomination of Benefits of International Trade

[edit]

Hello ScylarA,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Benefits of International Trade for deletion, because it seems to be copied from another source, probably infringing copyright.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to rewrite it in your own words, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

I see that you were already informed that copyright violations are not allowed in Wikipedia articles, and you recreated your article anyway. It will continue to be deleted as it still contains copyrighted material. Natureium (talk) 23:58, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Scylar, I want to stress and repeat that copyright and plagiarism are not tolerated on Wikipedia. You cannot take material from another source and use it on Wikipedia unless it's held under a compatible copyright and even then, you must attribute it properly. This is not negotiable and I must warn you that if you continue to post copyrighted content like you have, you stand a very strong chance of getting blocked from editing. I cannot stress this enough.
Also when using material from another Wikipedia article you need to attribute it to that specific article. I don't see where you've done this in your edit summary so far. That part is minor in comparison to the overall copyright issues, though. You should re-write everything in your own words from here on out. If there's anything in your page that isn't taken from the US government page or from other Wikipedia articles, remove and re-write it. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 15:31, 1 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Your continued violation of this has been brought up at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. Natureium (talk) 19:01, 1 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
