Close discussion?

Section re possible topical closure

At some point, should we close this discussion? just a thought. --Sm8900 (talk) 05:59, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

I am going to put collapsible boxes around the text of most sections above. by the way, i am not suggesting we close the page, or even to close discussion in the sense of locking them and preventing further discussion after this. I just meant, we could think about ways to move some of these topics towards some closure. --Sm8900 (talk) 14:09, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
Okay, I have placed collapsible boxes around the bulk of discussion in each section above. by the way, I left the initial proposals or intros for each section above outside of the collapsible boxes.
For any collapsible box above, the parameter can be changed to keep it open by adding this text: |expand=yes. so if anyone feels that any discussion or section above should be left open, then there is an easy way to do so. anyone is welcome to make that change, if they wish. thanks!!!! --Sm8900 (talk) 14:32, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
@Knowledgekid87, Scottywong, Kusma, Britishfinance, BD2412, and Hecato: @Levivich, Thryduulf, and SportingFlyer: @Bermicourt, Isaacl, Nihonjoe, MJL, Espresso Addict, and UnitedStatesian: Hi everyone. I am pinging you just to let you know, I have made some formatting changes to this page, just to make the page sections here easier to read. You are all welcome to continue discussions on any and all topics that you may see fit, of course.
my suggestion above, to think about whether we should "close discussions" here, was actually a suggestion to move towards some kind of closure here, if we wish to do so; not to actually close the page to any further comments. so of course, if we wanted to do so, then that would perhaps actually entail some further discussion, before we reached any phase of actual closure or total conclusion of discussion here.
I hope that's helpful. you are welcome to comment or to discuss, of course, as you may wish. I welcome anyone's ideas or input here. Please feel free to comment if you wish. thanks!! --Sm8900 (talk) 14:50, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
I'm creating another sub-section below for comments, replies, new ideas, etc., simply because I think that if I didn't, then all of the editors whom I pinged above would receive multiple pings, any time that anyone added a comment to this section, and then saved it. thanks!! --Sm8900 (talk) 14:54, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

Close discussion section comments

(add comments for the section above here).

one closing thought

I am quoting a comment from the section #Questions: Re General process here on this workspace, above. here is the quote, below. thanks. --Sm8900 (talk) 15:19, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

QUOTE:

@Sm8900: I think it's best that we approach this project with the assumption that portals are here to stay in some form or another, and we're here to simply construct guidelines on what that form is. Opening up this discussion to the question of "should portals even exist at all" will threaten to derail the conversation entirely. I believe that question was discussed at length in a somewhat recent RFC. I'd prefer to avoid trying to answer that question in this forum. ‑Scottywong| [squeal] || 23:52, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

You just made 82 consecutive updates to this page. You've been asked multiple times not to flood pages with so many updates. It's just getting too difficult to follow any discussion that you choose to take over in this way. isaacl (talk) 16:01, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

all I did was change the formatting. I didn't add more than two comments of my own, here at the bottom of the page. --Sm8900 (talk) 17:28, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
Why did you take 82 edits to do this? It's very difficult to follow discussions where the contributions are so finely broken up that the history is swamped with one editor's contributions. (And for that matter, personally I think the change in formatting was unnecessary.) isaacl (talk) 18:10, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
Okay. I will keep that in mind. --Sm8900 (talk) 18:32, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
Pls restore navigation ability from TOC.--Moxy 🍁 22:28, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
@Sm8900: There is no support for your changes to the page. Revert them now or I will block you for disruptive editing and do it myself. BD2412 T 00:58, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
Never mind, I have gone ahead and reverted them. Still, stop it. BD2412 T 01:08, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
okay, no problem. If you wish me to discontinue, I am glad to follow your preference. I appreciate your feedback, and your help. thanks. Sorry if I over-stepped. For my own part, I would like to note that I did try to start a discussion on the talk page beforehand, and also, I did ping about ten editors afterwards, to invite and to solicit their input. also, the majority of the edits that I did were primarily formatting, not related to any opinion of mine at all on any of the issues stated above.
However, as you note, perhaps a little time to let a discussion of edits to proceed, and some presentation of the edits on a separate page, might have been better. so based on your note here, I will follow your request. I appreciate your feedback and helpful input. I will put the revisions from earlier into a draft in a different location, and will try to present it sometime in the future. I do appreciate your help on this. Sorry again. thanks. --Sm8900 (talk) 05:05, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
Better. BD2412 T 05:18, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
okay, I appreciate that. thanks. --Sm8900 (talk) 05:22, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
I have created a draft version of this page, at this user page: User talk:Sm8900/draft of Portal guideline workspace. Anyone is welcome to visit there if they wish. I tried to make navigation and readability easier . I have also added a section for comments at the top of this draft. By the way, there are two editors here who have disagreed with my editing style, and yet who made a point of adding their comments above in a very courteous and tactful manner. I want to personally thank them for being willing to engage and to discuss here. this is what Wikipedia is all about. So Moxy and SmokeyJoe, please accept my sincere thanks for the manner in which you expressed comments above, but willingly engaged here in order to have a constructive discussion. I also want to thank BD2412 for their helpful feedback and assistance here. I appreciate all of your help.
By the way, I do find the threads and topics above a bit difficult to read through easily and to navigate. So, for anyone who feels similarly, my draft is available if you would like a slightly different format to enable easier reading and navigation. if you want have any improvement that you want me to add, feel free to comment. alternately, if you disagree with my approach, you are welcome to leave any comments that you may wish. I appreciate the help and insights of everyone here. thanks!! --Sm8900 (talk) 14:49, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
Don't ya think you're overdoing it, Sm8900? Ya mean well, but it's not required for you to take over here. Ya got too many balls in the air. GoodDay (talk) 15:13, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
you make some good and valid points. I appreciate your insights. thanks!! --Sm8900 (talk) 15:24, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

I would like to create an archive, at User talk:Scottywong/Portal guideline workspace/archive, and move this entire section into it, since this is actually a talk page. At this point, I don't think this section is adding anything here, and I think it detracts from the rest of the page, and the other discussions here. I will do so in a short while. I hope that is okay. thanks. --Sm8900 (talk) 16:04, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

Holy moly. One would need a very complicated map, to follow what's been happening on this workspace page, these last few hours. GoodDay (talk) 06:33, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
