am trying to update an autobiographical history of Scott Gentes

Retired pyschologist film maker and musician Scottgentes (talk) 14:44, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Are you Scott Gentes? 331dot (talk) 15:04, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I just put up basic info for this person. I have to sleep and I will get back to writing this astonishing person's life Scottgentes (talk) 15:07, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you are not him, you cannot use his name as your username. Perhaps you confused creating an article with creating an account. Please change your username by making a request at Special:GlobalRenameRequest or WP:CHUS. You will need to use Articles for creation to create a draft; new accounts cannot directly create articles. 331dot (talk) 15:11, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yes this is me. How can I get the info I put up back? I started a rough with my name and my links in order to start the ball rolling however received a notification that someone open source deleted my rough info. I find it funny that billionaires have pages that link to their companies.yet a rough draft is deleted immediately? Can you help Scottgentes

Thanks for the info dot331. Will you write the article for me then? Scottgentes (talk) 15:26, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You spoke about yourself in the third person above; are you the only one operating this account? You edited your user page, which is not article space and not part of the encyclopedia itself; it is a place for the named user to tell about themselves as a Wikipedia editor or user.
Billionaires do not "have pages" here that they maintain and control, either about their companies or themselves. Wikipedia has articles about people, including billionaires, that receive significant coverage in independent reliable sources, showing how they meet the special Wikipedia definition of a notable person. Just as one cannot control what the New York Times writes about them, an article subject cannot exclusively control what is written about them on Wikipedia(except in cases of libel)
While not forbidden, autobiographical articles are highly discouraged, please see the autobiography policy. This is in part because people naturally write favorably about themselves, and also because to be successful in writing about one's self here, one must set aside everything they know about themselves and only write based on the content of independent reliable sources. Most people have great difficulty in doing that about themselves. Also be aware that a Wikipedia article about yourself is not necessarily a good thing. If you truly feel that you meet our definition of notability, have independent reliable sources with significant coverage of you to summarize, and can set aside what you know about yourself, you may use Articles for Creation to create and submit a draft.
If you need a copy of the text, I can email it to you(I can view deleted articles as an admin) 331dot (talk) 17:48, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
