DYK for Eveline Hańska
On 1 May 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Eveline Hańska, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Polish Countess Eveline Hańska (pictured) was once ordered by a doctor to stick her feet into a small pig in order to treat her gout? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Silent Hill
I would like to ask which parts of Silent Hill you intend to copy-edit, because the plot section has recently been the subject of a debate. I don't know if someone wants to prepare it for FAN, but I'd like to in the future, after I've tidied up the other Silent Hill-related articles. I'm currently working on "List of Silent Hill characters" and "Silent Hill," and periodically on "Silent Hill: Origins." When they're ready for GAN I'll nominate them. I've told others that they can help me out if they want, but they're maybe bored or haven't noticed it yet. I'd appreciate it if you helped with all 3, since I have a lot of work to do for them and it'll take a lot of time. Golden Sugarplum (talk) 20:19, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
- The GOCE request asked for a copyedit of the article, so I intend to copyedit the article. I didn't realize there were certain sections I was supposed to stay away from. Scartol • Tok 21:29, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
- No, no, you're not supposed to refrain from editing the plot section, of course. Help is always welcome. I asked in order to learn if you wanted to edit it. I mentioned the recent debate because I saw on the game's talk page that you haven't played the game. I wanted to tell you, always with good intentions, to be extra cautious when editing this game's plot to avoid other debates in the future. Help appreciated. Golden Sugarplum (talk) 23:18, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
- I never change content in an article that I copyedit. I'll stay focused on linguistic correctness, grammar, punctuation, etc. If I have questions about anything, I'll ask them when I post comments on the talk page. Thanks for clarifying! Scartol • Tok 04:13, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you for your help. I would advise you to read the "Characters of Silent Hill" section of "List of Silent Hill characters," if you haven't. This way you will know what is already mentioned in the list, so that you don't include it in Silent Hill's plot. Golden Sugarplum (talk) 22:47, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
Just wanted to thank you for your copyediting, Scartol. The article reads an awful lot better now. Prime Blue (talk) 21:35, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the link
Thanks for sharing the link to Democracy Now! It was an interesting program. The following program, a discussion about the book among Amiri Baraka, Michael Eric Dyson, and journalist Herbert Boyd, proved to be rather explosive. Thanks again, — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 20:54, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
How can I create a new page?
I want to create a new page for a somewhat minor character in twentieth-century Chinese history who I happen to have several sources on. I can't quite find a button for anything that says anything like "create new page", though. Can you lead me through how I would go about doing this?Ferox Seneca (talk) 22:49, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
- My pleasure. Start by reading WP:FIRST. When it's time to actually make the article, start by searching to make sure it doesn't already exist. Assuming it doesn't, at the bottom of the search page you'll find a line reading "You may create the page "(whatever)", but consider checking the search results below to see whether it is already covered."
- The term(s) you searched for will be a red link. Click the red link to begin creating the article.
- Two words of caution: First, don't worry if a bunch of people come along after you make your new page and add stuff to it (stub tags, metadata, etc). This is part of the natural Wikipedia cycle. And second, don't be too upset if someone takes your article to WP:AFD. It happened to the first article I created, but hopefully you'll have better luck. Good luck! Scartol • Tok 02:20, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks in advance for your advice. I think that my subject is defensibly notable. Some other projects have come up in the meantime (on and off of WP), but I will resume my effort to create that page sometime soon.Ferox Seneca (talk) 03:32, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
- Don't rush on my account! 8) Good luck, and please let me know if you have other questions. Scartol • Tok 15:46, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
- Just to give this thread some closure, I did end up creating that one page, here.Ferox Seneca (talk) 04:53, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

Merger?
OK: new question. I found two pages that I think are basically about the same thing. How can I go about getting them merged?Ferox Seneca (talk) 05:00, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
- Your new article looks great -- kudos for your work on that! Is it long enough to submit to DYK?
- As for merging articles, start by reading WP:MERGE. Which article do you think needs merging? Sorry for the delayed response -- it was a busy weekend! Scartol • Tok 23:11, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
- It's all cool. The articles that I think need merging are "White Terror (mainland China)" and "Shanghai massacre of 1927". The events of 1927 are commonly referred to collectively as the "White Terror", to the degree that I have actually never heard them called anything else before I stumbled across this article. (I think the current title is just a semi-literal translation from Chinese, and is less common in English than "White Terror"). Because the "White Terror" article itself is a new article that mostly just discusses the events of 1927, while stating that some persecution of communists continued to occur after this event, it does not really contribute anything to any subject that is different than the events already covered on the "Shanghai Massacre" page.
- I believe that any information in the "White Terror" article that does not already exist in the "Shanghai Massacre" article should be added to it. Because it is essentially a copy of an older and more complete page, the "White Terror" article should be deleted, with a redirect to that subject leading to the "Shanghai Massacre" article. Ferox Seneca (talk) 23:32, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
- WP:MERGE is very useful and interesting. I'll be sure to get on that relatively soon. Ferox Seneca (talk) 23:41, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
- I didn't know anything about DYK before, but I did end up submitting it just now. We'll see how it goes.Ferox Seneca (talk) 01:18, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- I don't remember ever merging pages myself, but it happens with some frequency. The first thing is to discuss it on the talk page, and give it a few weeks to see if anyone responds. If not (or if the consensus is that the merger should happen), follow the directions on WP:MERGE. Good luck, and let me know what happens with DYK! Scartol • Tok 11:09, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- They ended up putting a fact from the article on Liang Huazhi in DYK today. It's something to tell my friends, I guess. Ferox Seneca (talk) 01:26, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
