Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Ifold. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Melcous (talk) 10:48, 30 September 2016 (UTC)
Hello, Melcous - thank you for your reply. I have taken on board all that you say and hope I have understood it all! The link 'is' genuinely useful so how do I "suggest it on the talk page of the article and let an uninvolved editor decide if it should be included"?. I have changed the user name, as recommended, using the link to the global name request. Please advise if there is still something else I should be doing to get the edits published. Kind regards, 86.180.170.111 (talk) 15:54, 30 September 2016 (UTC)Sarah at Kelsey Hall
[edit]Hi and thanks for your message on my talk page. The issues are around conflict of interest and promotion. You should not add links to a website with which you are associated. As the above notice says, if you think such a link is genuinely useful, you may suggest it on the talk page of the article and let an uninvolved editor decide if it should be included.
You should also have a look at wikipedia's username policy as it seems that you may not be complying with it. You may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are invited to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you personally, such as "Jack Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".
Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, or website, regardless of your username. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username, by completing this form, that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. Melcous (talk) 12:56, 30 September 2016 (UTC)
Hello Melcous, - what is the status of the edits that I would like to make to the Ifold page, please? How do I proceed? Kind regards Sarah at Kelsey Hall (talk) 16:29, 5 October 2016 (UTC) Sarah at Kelsey Hall
- Hi Sarah, thank for reading the links and making the appropriate change to your user name. If you go to Talk:Ifold and add a request using this tag: {{request edit}} (see WP:PER for more information), explaining what the link is you want added and why you think it is relevant/useful, then another editor can decide if the link should be added. Thanks, Melcous (talk) 23:59, 5 October 2016 (UTC)
