Conflict of Interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Sarah Northcott. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Peter Serwan, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Melcous (talk) 04:07, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Melcous, Thank you I am new to editing Wikipedia. I have had a look at the conflict of interest guidelines. I don't believe I have an interest in promoting the artist. I formerly worked at a gallery which hosted an exhibition of his, which is how I became aware of the artist. Is this something I should disclose and how? Thanks for your assistance Sarah Northcott (talk) 05:11, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply Sarah. That's great that you have read the guidelines and understand the issue around promotion. Even though your connection is in the past, personally I think it might be worth making a disclosure to be as above board as you can. See the instructions here: WP:DISCLOSE. And happy editing! Thanks Melcous (talk) 09:10, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sarah185. As you have declared a conflict of interest with this article subject, please follow our guidelines and refrain from editing the article. It is particularly inappropriate for an editor with a conflict of interest to remove conflict of interest tags from an article, as you did here. — Manticore 03:30, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Manticore, Thank you for your message. My apologies, I thought I was doing the right thing. I don't think I do have a conflict of interest but because I was aware of the subject because of a connection to the art world I thought it best to say something and that was sufficient to remove the tag as it had been addressed Sarah185 (talk) 03:45, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
