Some Ground Rules for the New Article
[edit]I'm going to lay down some ground rules for the new article, if you are familiar with Wiki policy it really shouldn't come as a surprise, but I would just like to reiterate them here.
- Reliable Sources must be used to make a claim; if you want to say that it was the result of racists include a source saying it was racists, if you want to link it to the Easter bunny, a source saying it was the Easter bunny is needed.
- White does not equal Australian and by the same token Australian does not equal white nor does "of Middle Eastern appearance" mean that these people where not Australian. Australia has a very high rate of immigration meaning that it is not only possible but probable (and the larger the group the more probable) that a white person is not an Australian citizen or permanent resident, a white person could have easily landed in a plane the day before and joined in the riots, so could a person of Middle Eastern appearance. It is also possible that a person of Middle Eastern Appearance is a second–, third–, fourth– or even higher generation Australian and are as Australian as anyone else. You may think you are helping by wikilinking to White people or other terms, but it's really not.
- WP:NPOV is very important in all articles but particularly in an article such as this; do not try and pin the blame on one particular person or group of people — the truth is much more complicated.
