New Page Review needs your help

Hi Samee/Archives/2016,

As an AfC reviewer you're probably aware that a new user right has been created for patrolling new pages (you might even have been granted the right already, and admins have it automatically).

Since July there has been a very serious backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed of over 14,000 pages, by far the worst since 2011, and we need an all out drive to get this back down to just a few hundred that can be easily maintained in the future. Unlike AfC, these pages are already in mainspace, and the thought of what might be there is quite scary. There are also many good faith article creators who need a simple, gentle push to the Tea House or their pages converted to Draft rather than being deleted.

Although New Page Reviewing can occasionally be somewhat more challenging than AfC, the criteria for obtaining the right are roughly the same. The Page Curation tool is even easier to use than the Helper Script, so it's likely that most AfC reviewers already have more than enough knowledge for the task of New Page Review.

It is hoped that AfC reviewers will apply for this right at WP:PERM and lend a hand. You'll need to have read the page at WP:NPR and the new tutorial.

AfC rejection

Hi, I think for User:RAJARAM94/sandbox you sent the rejection notice to the wrong user (GreenC bot) should be RAJARAM94. -- GreenC 19:01, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

Apologies, thank you for bringing it to attention.  sami  talk 19:05, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

New page reviewer granted

Hello Samee. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as mark pages as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join or start a thread at page reviewer talk.

  • Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
  • Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator. Biblio (talk) Reform project. 22:32, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

Sockpuppet Investigation, Please Help

I want to keep my information private, but I am a young person using this site. I tried to make an article for Sam and Nia on an account called Jellybean1902, but then I wanted to change my username and I couldn't work it out so I deleted the article from my sandbox on my other account and tried to work out how to close the account but I couldn't, so I just opened a new account and copy and pasted the article for submission. I got a notification about a suspected sock puppet, so I searched it and I am really sorry, I wasn't trying to break any rules and I am not an internet troll or a bad person, I'm really sorry. Please help me to sort it out, ideally I wouldn't like to be blocked from the site. I really didn't mean any harm, I'm really sorry. The only reason I opened another account was because I wanted to have a tidy account as my other account had lots of declined submissions displayed on my user page. I enjoy writing articles and I love journalism, and I was writing about Sam and Nia because I watch their vlogs and I thought it was a good place to start journalism. I didn't mean to cause any harm, I was trying to completely avoid causing any harm and do the right thing. Once again, I am very sorry. I am in no way associated with Sam and Nia, not trying to break rules and didn't understand exactly what I should have done in that situation. I am really sorry, please help me out. @HazelMia2015: Now that you have disclosed, you should also disclose other user accounts (if any) that you've created or used. Multiple accounts are ONLY allowed for legitimate purposes. As you stated that you created a new account for a clean start, you should now stick to your new account. You can see the SPI against you here. You need not worry in case you won't misuse multiple accounts in future.  sami  talk 01:48, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

00:58:54, 23 November 2016 review of submission by Desksmart

Hi Thanks for reviewing my submission on the New Zealand International Convention Centre. I've rewritten a few times to highlight its newsworthiness and importance, although the building is still under construction. The references are all from the New Zealand newspapers or media, so are verifiable. What information or details should I add to the piece itself to ensure it can be published? Thanks. Desksmart Desksmart (talk) 00:58, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

@Desksmart: Your draft was rejected because it did not meet general notability guidelines. Your draft read that the project is under construction. You have already been told that Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. If you believe the subject passes the general notability test, then you should cite independent sources. You have written the draft in a way that somehow promotes the subject. As your draft reads that the construction would be completed by 2019, then you should wait until that time unless you provide sources that proves the notability of the subject  sami  talk 01:20, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

Request on 04:58:30, 24 November 2016 for assistance on AfC submission by Kumarappanghelliah

Can you help me this article? Can you review in this. Draft article? Kumarappanghelliah (talk) 04:58, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

I did review your draft and I also left remarks that could help you in improving your draft. Would you like to tell me what's the name of the village you are trying to write about?  sami  talk 17:05, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
I've created a short article on a village located here. I found 'Palavangudi' name on your userpage and perhaps you were trying to write on Palavangudi here. The main reason for rejecting your draft was not the confusion about the village name but the content of the draft. Your draft read like an essay. Dodger67 and I have already told you on your draft that the encyclopedic articles should be written from the neutral point of view. Your draft in its present form is not suitable for inclusion. In case you were trying to write on a village other than Palavangudi, please rewrite your draft, otherwise you may like to improve the article on Palavangudi.  sami  talk 17:42, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

how do you get the beta of AfCH ? --Ⓩⓟⓟⓘⓧ Talk 18:59, 25 November 2016 (UTC)

Using this script: importScript('MediaWiki:Gadget-afchelper-beta.js');

How are you handling redirect requests using this script AFC/R HS? I imported PhantomTech script but in vain. I thought to ask you when I noticed your second review against a declined request by me? #Telepathy  sami  talk 19:12, 25 November 2016 (UTC)

New Page Review - newsletter

Hello Samee/Archives/2016,
Breaking the back of the backlog
We now have 804 New Page Reviewers! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog. Now it's time for action.
Mid July to 01 Oct 2016

If each reviewer does only 10 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
Let's get that over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

Second set of eyes

Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work. Read about it at the new Monitoring the system section in the tutorial.

Getting the tools we need - 2016 WMF Wishlist Survey: Please vote

With some tweaks to their look, and some additional features, Page Curation and New Pages Feed could easily be the best tools for patrollers and reviewers. We've listed most of what what we need at the 2016 WMF Wishlist Survey. Voting starts on 28 November - please turn out to make our bid the Foundation's top priority. Please help also by improving or commenting on our Wishlist entry at the Community Wishlist Survey. Many other important user suggestions are listed at at Page Curation.
