Hello, SIVBiology, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, such as User:SIVBiology, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's content policies and may not be retained. In short, the topic of an article must be notable and have already been the subject of publication by reliable and independent sources.

Please review Your first article for an overview of the article creation process. The Article Wizard is available to help you create an article, where it will be reviewed and considered for publication. For information on how to request a new article that can be created by someone else, see Requested articles. A tag has been placed on User:SIVBiology requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://sivb.org/about-sivb/history.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Contested deletion - Society for In Vitro Biology

[edit]

This page should not be speedy deleted as an unambiguous copyright infringement, because we are the copyright holders sharing the mission statement and historical documents regarding our organization. Based on other links throughout to your pages, numerous people linked on our page mention the Society for In Vitro Biology on their pages. If there is specific text you would like us to revise, we can do so, but to reword our mission statement or other materials may incorrectly reflect on the organization.

Please contact me with further questions or suggestions.

Sincerely, Michele

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because your account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  • Provide a new username.

To do this, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 16:59, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Jim,
Thank for your response to my earlier message. I’ve been providing updates to other Wikipedia pages for some time now, but this is the first time I’m running into some of these issues, so I appreciate any insight you can help me with in navigating this situation.
The Society for In Vitro Biology is a non-profit professional scientific society that’s been in existence since 1946. The organization publishes scientific journals, gives awards to members, exchanges knowledge among members, and promotes scientific knowledge for everyone.
I’ve been a paid administrator working for the Board of Directors of this organization for 25 years. At some point in the past, someone unknown to me or the current Board of Directors created Wikipedia pages for the journals that SIVB publishes, and one of my areas of responsibility has been to keep those pages updated to reflect accurate and current impact factors. Recently, the Board of Directors decided that they would love to see a Wikipedia page that provided information about the rest of the organization. They gave me the responsibility to write the page under their approval.
At the time that I wrote the page, I did include verbatim information from the organization’s official website, and I was unaware that this would violate Wikipedia’s copyright policies since I was working directly on behalf of the copyright holders. Now that I’ve had a chance to look more closely at Wikipedia’s policies, I see that much of this material will need to be re-written or that we’ll need to go through the proper channels to donate the copyrighted material. These are all things that we’re happy to do. Our goal isn’t to generate any commercial promotion for the organization – simply to give it a presence on Wikipedia. For example, some of our most notable members have received SIVB Lifetime Achievement Awards and information on these awards is noted on their own Wikipedia pages, such as https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/George_Otto_Gey; https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Hope_E._Hopps; https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Gordon_H._Sato; and https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Leonard_Hayflick). However, there is no information about the organization itself. We feel it would be valuable for the public to be able to further research the Society.
I have already reached out to my Board of Directors and let them know that the scope of this project will need to change to accommodate Wikipedia’s policies. I’m requesting that my account be unblocked so that I can begin the process of complying with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement, the copyrighted material donation process, and the re-writing of material to comply with Wikipedia’s policies. My requested new username is MGSchultz.
I look forward to your response and appreciate your assistance in resolving this issue. Since I was unfamiliar with these policies until today, I would also appreciate any insight or guidance you have on other policies of which I might not be aware. We hope that we will be able to provide an article that serves public knowledge without violating Wikipedia’s goals and mission.
Sincerely,
Michele SIVBiology (talk) 17:52, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You will not be unblocked in the short run to edit about your business, given the promotional nature of your edits and your WP:conflict of interest. Please describe what non promotional, non conflict of interest edits you would make. You will also need to select a new user name that represents you as an individual. To do this, post the text
{{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. Thanks -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 18:35, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

On February 27th I was informed that my account had been indefinitely blocked from editing due to an article I had attempted to post about a not-for-profit organization for whom I work. At the time I was unaware of all of Wikipedia’s rules and policies about self-promotion and representation of businesses or organizations in usernames.
I spoke to several of Wikipedia’s Administrators during the day to try to resolve the issue. One of them gave me a list of criteria that I needed to follow to request my account to be unblocked, including disclosure of compensation, explanation of my understanding of the reason for my block, descriptions of the contributions I would make if unblocked, and submission of a new username.
I responded and indicated that I understood the reason for my block and stated that I would not make any future edits or contributions to Wikipedia that violated its policies. In response to this I received the following:
You will not be unblocked in the short run to edit about your business, given the promotional nature of your edits and your WP:conflict of interest. Please describe what non promotional, non conflict of interest edits you would make. You will also need to select a new user name that represents you as an individual.
Over the last few weeks I’ve spoken extensively with the board of directors of my organization in order to ensure that everyone is clear in their understanding of Wikipedia’s policies. As an organization we have abandoned the intention of posting any self-promoting material (or any material at all) on Wikipedia. As a result, there is no concern about me posting material or making edits on Wikipedia that would go against policy. It is possible or even likely that I won’t have a need to make any edits for any material in the future. However, I would prefer to function as any other Wikipedia user and have the option available to me to use the site within the bounds of its policies. SIVBiology (talk) 13:31, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Since you have no edits that you intend to make, there is no need to remove the block, as blocks only prevent editing, they do not prevent merely reading Wikipedia. You may request unblock when you have an edit you wish to make. There is no deadline for this. 331dot (talk) 08:52, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
