Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, S5omr, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of your recent edits to the page Kevin Stephens did not conform to Wikipedia's verifiability policy, and may have been removed. Wikipedia articles should refer only to facts and interpretations verified in reliable, reputable print or online sources or in other reliable media. Always provide a reliable source for quotations and for any material that is likely to be challenged, or it may be removed. Wikipedia also has a related policy against including original research in articles.

If you are stuck and looking for help, please see the guide for citing sources or come to the new contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Kevin Stephens

[edit]

If you wish to ADD something to Kevin Stephens' article, please find a reliable source to substantiate your additions. However there is no reason to delete his past carreer details. thanks IdreamofJeanie (talk) 09:07, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

To Whom it may concern, Please note I have had FULL permission from Kevin Stephen (if you require evidence then I am more than happy to provide this), to update the page of his past Football career. As mentioned he is no longer playing football and therefore the page is not showing current/accurate information about him.

See my message below. talk to !dave 09:13, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm TheImaCow. I noticed that you made an edit to a biography of a living person, Kevin Stephens, but you didn’t support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. Wikipedia has a strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. TheImaCow (talk) 09:07, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your rewrite of Kevin Stephens

[edit]

Hi S50mr.

I'm going to remove your rewrite of the Kevin Stephens page again, soon.

This is because your edition has zero citations, which is a must for a page regarding a living person.

I suggest you work on your rewrite to contain reliable sources in your user sandbox. This is at User:S5omr/sandbox. That page doesn't contain anything yet, but I will move the content you wrote on the article to that page. When you are done, get me to review it, or, if you can't hear from me, go to the Wikipedia Teahouse to get someone to look at it before it is uploaded.

Finally, you mention that you had permission from Kevin for this to be changed. This raises the problem of conflict of interest. Wikipedia strongly discourages conflict-of-interest editing, whereby someone related to the article subject edits related articles (this is an example of this situation). This means that placing an edit directly onto the page as you have done is discouraged. Nonetheless, the process where someone has to approve such edits before they are live can be done in the way I suggested above, even if it is not the official way of going about things.

Thanks, talk to !dave 09:08, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I've created that sandbox page for you at User:S5omr/sandbox2. A guide for what you should be doing is contained here. All the best. talk to !dave 09:12, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for your help here , I will let you know once everything is in order. Once again, my apologies for the misunderstanding.S5omr (talk) 09:35, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The article is not 'owned' by Kevin Stephens. He cannot choose what belongs and does not belong in the article. Do not deleted referenced content. Add content only if you can provide valid references. As you are coordinating proposed changes with Kevin, the proper procedure is to create new sections on the Talk page where in each section you paste in existing content and what you propose as replacement content. An editor will then review and either accept or deny your proposed changes. A realistic goal would be to propose adding information on when his football career ended, and then a short (3-4 sentence) section on his career(s) after football, with references. No stories about him growing up. No stories about his children. Only factual content, with references. As noted, social media and interviews do not count. David notMD (talk) 10:12, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your input David. I will take this into account and make the amends. S5omr (talk) 11:31, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No need to apologize, either. We all have been at times reverted for making edits that do not conform with Wikipedia's rules and guidelines. His website cannot be a reference, but if can be placed in External links. David notMD (talk) 12:46, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi All, following yesterday I have amended my updates on Kevin's current work and carreer with verifiable citaitons and reffereces. Is someone able to review this and advise accordingly please? I have save this in my Sandbox. Thanks!S5omr (talk) 16:16, 28 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You can try pasting the now-referenced Sandbox content into the article and see if it sticks. First, I suggest you cut the restaurant mention, as that comes across as promotional. David notMD (talk) 09:51, 29 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for checking the work Davin notMD! I have removed the restaurant mention as per your advise. I've pasted this below the orignal contents of the article in it's own section "Current Work".S5omr (talk) 09:55, 29 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Let's see if it sticks. And see my note below. David notMD (talk) 09:59, 29 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Declaring COI

[edit]

Given that you wrote "I have had permission by Kevin to edit his page." you need to declare the nature of the connection on your User page. Clear up whether you are doing this for him as a favor, or if you are being paid. David notMD (talk) 09:58, 29 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I've added this on to my user page now, is this sufficient?S5omr (talk) 10:01, 29 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that is sufficient. David notMD (talk) 13:35, 29 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like your big 'add' is going to stick. Congrats. David notMD (talk) 00:20, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Perfect, many thanks for your help with this too David notmD!S5omr (talk) 10:50, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yo

[edit]

One thing you can do if you want. Take a picture of Stephens and upload it via the process that starts here [1] (as it says there, this means that you sort of donate it to the world). Or he can take a selfie and do it himself. Unless other editors feel it's too awful, it can then be used as a MOS:LEADIMAGE. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 12:32, 29 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I will look for an appropriate image and upload it soon.S5omr (talk) 13:43, 29 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This should be a photo you took. Or if a Stephen selfie, he upload it. Everything else tangled in copyright (the copyright of a photo of a person is held by the photographer, not the subject of the photograph.) David notMD (talk) 02:09, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I meant "take a picture" as in "photograph him yourself". WP is very picky about copyright, and any old picture you have laying around (unless you took it) will be much more difficult/impossible. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 06:41, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, many thanks for your help here, I will make sure the picture is not taken by a 3rd party. S5omr (talk) 10:52, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ive uploaded the image (compliant with copyright law and Wiki guidelines) but I'm unsure on how to add this onto the actual Kevin Stephens articele itself? This is the link ot the image - https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Kevin_Stephens.jpg S5omr (talk) 13:37, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Normally there would be links for that above the image, but I think because of the "warning" now under it, they are not there yet. You have to deal with that. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 16:28, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
