US model years

[edit]

Hi! I've had to revert your changes a couple of times when it looked like you didn't understand US model years properly. US model year 2008 starts in mid 2007, includes Jan 1, 2008 (by law) and ends in mid 2008. This is different to most countries where the 2008 model starts in mid 2008 and continues to mid 2009. It is very hard to convince Americans that there is any other type of car year beside there form of model year. Likewise, the US model year seems completely crazy to most of countries. The comprmise we have developed at Wikipedia is for articles to talk in calendar years (matching most countries) but to occasionally mention "US model year" when talking about N.America. This is explained at WP:MODELYEAR. It's not ideal but it's the best we have been able to come up with after much argument and discussion from both sides.  Stepho  talk  06:28, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
