Hi! I saw that you removed a mention of sexual abuse here. The original Dutch article talks about "Anthony L." who was part of Team Scheire - cf Dutch page https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Team_Scheire. It is 100% clear to every person living in Belgium that this is indeed Anthony Liekens. He assaulted a 11 year old and was convicted for it as being guilty, and I think that's worth a mention in an online encyclopedia. 2A02:1812:2C0F:1B00:484D:8495:1D0A:262E (talk) 08:29, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dear IP editor. Yes, the situation was discussed at some length on our Biographies of Living Persons Noticeboard [1]. Just as Belgium appears to have strict privacy laws regarding what can and cannot be printed in a newspaper, Wikipedia has strict rules about what can and cannot be included in a Biography of a Living Person (or BLP, in Wikipedia parlance). We need reliable sources that mention the subject by name. It was 100% clear to everyone in that discussion that Anthony L. was Anthony Liekens, but the the consensus was that we could not include the material with the sourcing that we could find. I spent a fair bit of time looking for sources we could use during the discussion (as I tend to agree that would be worth mentioning), and did not find anything that sufficed. I am dealing with a family emergency right now, and don't have much time this week. Russ Woodroofe (talk) 12:55, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the detailed reply and explanation, and for linking the relevant discussion. I hadn't seen that yet. Wishing you strength with your family emergency! 2A02:1812:2C0F:1B00:A0A8:9122:919:D574 (talk) 09:03, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The thread is Personal attack. Thank you. The OP, Monophile, mentioned you and did not notify you, so I'm doing that now. They have since been blocked for 48 hours but the section's still open so far. Issue regarding the redirect "James Bryant Conant Award"

[edit]

Hi, we should not be surprising users with James Bryant Conant Award. Maybe a mention of the award could be added to the target page with a good ref. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 16:29, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

(I agree, and will try to address, but am just coming off a trip, and will have limited Wikipedia time for a day or two.) Russ Woodroofe (talk) 19:27, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@MPGuy2824: I added an award section to the ECS article, and changed to redirect to that. The award isn't independently notable, but not everything in an article about a notable topic needs to be itself notable, and the award does seem to be moderately prestigious, and worth mentioning in a biography of an award recipient. I see you are a professor of math. Have you read the paper? If yes, what proof is wrong? What mistake did I make? I have a Ph.D. just like you so lets discuss the facts. I am prepared to defend all the statements in the paper. If I have made a mistake in math, I will admit it. Just show me where. Let's talk as professionals. ISTCC (talk) 16:26, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am not going to read an article in a predatory journal. Get the coverage in Quanta and the Notices per WP:EXCEPTIONAL, and someone uninvolved will add it to the article. If you were somehow unaware that the journal was predatory, then I will tell you that referring to Beall's list can be helpful (if dated); pretty much any reliable math journal will be indexed by both zbMath and MathSciNet. Note that zbMath is open access nowadays. Russ Woodroofe (talk) 16:52, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Checking my memory for editors who might know anything about Slovenia

[edit]

Hello! There's a grumpy editor at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard#Blatant_vandalism, so I thought I could always ask if you know any WP:GNG-good sources for Draft:Styrian derby. If so, you can put them on the talkpage or just edit.

And Merry Christmas! Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 12:18, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Gråbergs Gråa Sång, and a happy new year to you! I looked a little for sources on Štajerski Derbi, and found a collection of so-tagged articles on Delo [2]. I also found an Rtv (Slovenian national television) article that thought it was important enough to put in the headline [3]. As a non-expert on Slovenian football, it looks to me like a football rivalry might perhaps be better covered with other rivalries in the article on Football in Slovenia. I note that the article on Slovene wikipedia is rather brief. Russ Woodroofe (talk) 13:04, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just a bit brief, yeah. Thanks! Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 13:08, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
