User talk:Rursus/Large Magellanic Cloud
Current status
[edit](Copied from Talk:Large Magellanic Cloud 07:42, 3 March 2010 (UTC))
In order to get it to B quality, a few sections lacks references and a few basic features:
- section Distance have no references,
- section X-ray sources have references but for the 3rd para there are none,
- section Gallery should either be saved to this talk (the easy way) or be renamed to Other Features and contain descriptive texts for each of the categories of those images, moving them here is simplest,
- section See also should need a few more links.

(Under this discussion, feel free to add diverse failings of the article Large Magellanic Cloud. Rursus dixit. (mbork3!) 07:56, 3 March 2010 (UTC))
The article structure - headings
[edit]The current article structure with sections and subsection, seems like having been evolved adhoc dependent on interesting reports found. Under this discussion, feel free to create alternate article layouts. Rursus dixit. (mbork3!) 07:56, 3 March 2010 (UTC)
Temporary section
[edit]I've added a section at the very bottom for listing and summarizing sources we find. I figure that, when we get enough sources and enough dot points, it will become clear what the sections and subsections in the article should be. Then we can just distribute the dot points among the relevant sections along with a cite back to the original source. Reyk YO! 09:51, 3 March 2010 (UTC)
- Partially, yes, but I guess the following top sections will be needed to get a coherent structure:
- History
- Distance and size
- Structure
- Observations
- ++more

Gallery
[edit]To unmake the gallery, a finder map could be used to start an observational section. The file File:LMC charta.png is something like what I'm after, but that eminent image doesn't fit a lesser size display as needed in WP. The text needs to be larger. I'll take it as an exercise to create a similar map by hand. Using Inkscape and a bitmap image (f.ex. the NASA on at the top) as a calque, it shouldn't be to complicated. Rursus dixit. - Procedure: (I'm going to prepare the image the following way)
- take a snapshot of anon image with some certain level of low contrast,
- blur it heavily by GIMP in order to get rid of stars and other pointlike sources,
- load it in Inkscape and make a isophote trace in a tool there,
- use that trace as a background for the new finder map,
- use an image like File:LMC charta.png as a calque for a hand edited star map in Inkscape, so as to produce a SVG file.
- I think the image should be adapted for best view in something like 400px width. Rursus dixit. (mbork3!) 09:43, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
Looking for sources
[edit]- This is an excellent place to look for scientific articles. Reyk YO! 08:41, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
- Verily! It is the Place. Rursus dixit. (mbork3!) 09:10, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
