- @Spacegoat1 Jimfbleak deleted the article, so he would be better able to explain why it was deleted. In any case, my suggestion would be to try writing this as a draft, i.e. Draft:Elyanna, where the standards aren't as strict and you can get some help from reviewers. -- RoySmith (talk) 19:00, 6 April 2022 (UTC)

Recent changes
- There is a new public status page at www.wikimediastatus.net. This site shows five automated high-level metrics where you can see the overall health and performance of our wikis' technical environment. It also contains manually-written updates for widespread incidents, which are written as quickly as the engineers are able to do so while also fixing the actual problem. The site is separated from our production infrastructure and hosted by an external service, so that it can be accessed even if the wikis are briefly unavailable. You can read more about this project.
- On Wiktionary wikis, the software to play videos and audio files on pages has now changed. The old player has been removed. Some audio players will become wider after this change. The new player has been a beta feature for over four years. [1][2]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 12 April. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 13 April. It will be on all wikis from 14 April (calendar).

Hi Roy Smith! thanks for leaving the message on my talk page. I do not know Zaelzo at all, have no connection with any other wiki-editors and this is my only account. Question regarding an edit
Hey there! I had a question regarding this edit, in which you added a picture of a man, a caption with User:Box (wikilinked to Logan's Run) and an edit summary of 'protein of the sea!', which seems to be a reference to this. If you don't mind me asking, how does it relate to userboxe(s/n)? Cheers! Fakescientist8000 13:13, 29 May 2022 (UTC)
- The photo is of Roscoe Lee Browne, who is the actor who played the robot Box in Logan's Run (film). "Protein of the sea" is one of the famous lines that Box speaks. -- RoySmith (talk) 14:00, 29 May 2022 (UTC)

Question about adding to an SPI
I recently submitted an SPI alleging sockpuppetry on a disruptive IP range together with a new user account. I was told that the CheckUser request would be declined and it would be investigated behaviorally; I should not have publicly linked an IP to an account. Since then I have located another user account also operated by the same individual; the behavioral investigation for the old submission is not done yet. How do I go about this? Should I...
- ...email someone?
- ...edit the existing SPI submission?
- ...fill out a new submission, or should it not be a new submission?--Epiphyllumlover (talk) 19:26, 29 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Epiphyllumlover thanks for your questions. There's a couple of different things intertwined here. To answer the simple one first, please just fill out a new submission. It's OK to add new accounts to an existing report, but once somebody starts to work on it, and especially once it's been closed, starting a new report makes the whole process run easier.
- As for linking IPs to accounts, that's a little more complicated. A Checkuser is forbidden by policy to connect an account with an IP. However, there's nothing wrong with a non-Checkuser reporting an IP and suggesting that it's connected to an account, based on observed behavior. Once somebody requests that CU be run, a Checkuser will still evaluate the case to determine if there's sufficient grounds for suspicion to run a check according to policy. Sometimes the CU will determine that there isn't, and will decline to run a check. I don't know which SPI you're talking about, but it sounds like that's what happened here. It's not a big deal, cases get declined all the time. -- RoySmith (talk) 20:12, 29 May 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for your detailed answer. I see I'll need to fill out another SPI form. Your explanation doesn't quite match what two others wrote when explaining it to me. Since that discussion was collapsed, I will transclude it in case it interests you. I don't expect you to take more time explaining things to me; this is only if it interests you.--Epiphyllumlover (talk) 16:55, 30 May 2022 (UTC)

The Mertz Library will pull topical media from their collection to assist the editing. --Wikimedia New York City Team via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:05, 1 June 2022 (UTC) (You can subscribe/unsubscribe from future notifications for NYC-area events by adding or removing your name from this list.) |

- Several areas of improvement collated from community member votes have been identified in the Universal Code of Conduct Enforcement guidelines. The areas of improvement have been sent back for review and you are invited to provide input on these areas.
- Administrators using the mobile web interface can now access Special:Block directly from user pages. (T307341)
- The IP Info feature has been deployed to all wikis as a Beta Feature. Any autoconfirmed user may enable the feature using the "IP info" checkbox under Preferences → Beta features. Autoconfirmed users will be able to access basic information about an IP address that includes the country and connection method. Those with advanced privileges (admin, bureaucrat, checkuser) will have access to extra information that includes the Internet Service Provider and more specific location.
- Remedy 2 of the Rachel Marsden case has been rescinded following a motion. The remedy previously authorised administrators to delete or reduce to a stub, together with their talk pages, articles related to Rachel Marsden when they violate Wikipedia's biographies of living persons policy.
- An arbitration case regarding WikiProject Tropical Cyclones has been closed.

Nto template
Hi Roy! I just came across Template:Nto in the wild and was thinking...it is probably best if that template is substituted? Would minimize any vandalism potential. Just a thought and curious your opinion. --TheSandDoctor Talk 16:17, 5 June 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah, sure. My template-fu is pretty weak, but if you know how to make it auto-substitute, please do so. It would also be nice if it didn't generate an extra newline at the end, so you could add a trailing comment. I tried to get it to do that, but, well, as I said, I'm kind of clueless when it comes to template syntax :-) -- RoySmith (talk) 16:19, 5 June 2022 (UTC)
- I am not sure on how to auto-substitute, I just know the Wikipedia:Substitution way (when you are saving an edit using the template), but I was able to fix the trailing new line (test). --TheSandDoctor Talk 16:55, 5 June 2022 (UTC)

Requesting a cross-reference
Due to the editor's previous uncivil behavior towards me and my concern that they are a frequent socker, I have been monitoring Qaumrambista's unblock request. I do not know the process of requesting this, but I think a merge of the Qaumrambista/Jude Didimus investigation with Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Vishaal Elias Manesh/Archive is a good idea when you compare the known editing patterns of VEM socks and the Q/JD tag-teaming on image uploads (apparently same access to old images), editing, and other characteristics. I know I have pursued this issue for two months now, but the severe damage done to an already fragile corner of the Wiki (Indian minority ethnic groups) has continued to capture my concern. Additional evidence to tie the sockfarm to the Q/JD pair can be provided immediately on request. ~ Pbritti (talk) 04:43, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for your note. The best way to present your evidence is to file a new SPI report. RoySmith-Mobile (talk) 12:29, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
Sockpuppet allegation
You've have unfairly labelled me a sockpuppet and I am now being stalked by one of the accusers across Wikipedia. Do you have any evidence to back up this claim, other than we disagreed with the accusers on the UKIM article?
Please either rescind your allegation and thus hopefully the flimsy pretence Cambrial is using to stalk me will end or do a full and proper investigation which will clear me and probably everyone else they accused too. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.33.24.203 (talk) 08:57, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
The above editor has confirmed they are the same blocked editor in the second paragraph of this edit. Block of this identified sockpuppet IP will be appreciated. Cambial — foliar❧ 09:50, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
