I thought (this) may interest you. I've seen them, they are pretty amazing! Juneau Mike (talk) 03:41, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
- Hi @Mike, and thanks for the link. They look beautiful. After the winds blow through them, do let me know if they make sounds! I read the article, but how do the locals actually feel about the artist being a non-local? --Rosiestep (talk) 15:30, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
- There has been some local controversy about the artist being from California. I think that will die down in time, we will see. I believe this artwork could become notable enough for a Wikipedia article, but we aren't quite there, yet. Juneau Mike (talk) 17:31, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
- @Mike, another option is if someone ever creates a "List of public art in Juneau, Alaska" (per Category:Lists of public art in the United States), it could be added there. But, that list looks like a lot of work! --Rosiestep (talk) 17:45, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
- I believe the sculptor Cliff Garten has been or has become a clearly notable artist. Care to collaborate on an article? Tag, you're it! :) Start it, I'll help! Juneau Mike (talk) 19:43, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
- @Mike, I'm working on some other stuff right now, but I will check out the possibility. :) --Rosiestep (talk) 19:55, 1 October 2017 (UTC)

Met Weekly Challenge, Week 2: The Princesse de Broglie (Oct 1 - Oct 8): + help pick future collaborations
Ingres' The Princesse de Broglie has been chosen as the Week 2 focus of the Met Weekly Challenge. There are a lot of resources at the artwork's Met Collection record (see 'Catalogue Entry'), and also lists of other references. See the section for Week 2: The Princesse de Broglie (Oct 1 - Oct 8) for more on how to participate, or just get started editing!
I also very much encourage folks to share and vote for your ideas on future collaborations!--Pharos (talk) 20:07, 3 October 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for agreeing to be co-nominator on Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Megalibrarygirl. While I've done a number of successful RfAs this year, I think your enthusiastic endorsement of the candidate and WiR was a key factor in getting a huge amount of support. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:15, 17 October 2017 (UTC) |
- Thanks for the barnstar, Ritchie333; appreciate it. I was happy to co-nominate Megalibrarygirl as she is the torchbearer of wikiwonderfulness. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:01, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
- I do feel guilty about pinging her every other day saying "there's a biography of a woman here at NPP that needs fixing up, can you deal?" as she's so much better at it than I am. :-/ Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:03, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
- Ritchie333 - lots of people do that on the WiR talkpage as there are so many eyes there. An option for you to consider at least. :) --Rosiestep (talk) 16:16, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
- Yeah, I guess so. I haven't explored WiR much, though I've heard good things about it. It's mainly because I tend towards writing articles about inanimate objects these days mostly. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:21, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
- Well, if it's a new article & it's a bio & it's about a woman, then it's within the scope of Women in Red and we'd be pleased to be notified about any pages you (or any other reliable NPP) find at NPP that you think might be salvageable with some fixing up. Better that we work on it early (proactive) vs. when it gets to AfD (reactive); we get a lot of AfD posts. The more I think about it... it would be trend-setting if we were notified about the potentially-fixable ones by NPPs, especially interested in the non-BLPs (as the BLPs have their own issues and, of course, there is so much chatter these days about paid-editing + BLPs). --Rosiestep (talk) 16:33, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
- As I'm getting more used to PyWikiBot programming, I could cobble something together to parse User:AlexNewArtBot/WomeninredSearchResult and basically check for tags, lack of references, or other issues. Sort of a Suggestbot for WiR. I know we've got Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Article alerts, but this would catch new articles as soon as they're created. Something for me to mull over, at any rate. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:39, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks both of you, Ritchie333 and Rosiestep. And I'd have to say that on WiR we are always looking for ways to automate things like generating redlists using Wikidata or finding newly created articles. We've been working with Bobo.03 to find and recruit new editors. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 16:45, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
- Ritchie333 - I love the idea of cobbling together some tool like that. Is it doable? It has the potential for a massive positive impact on our work, though others might not agree. Again, suggesting we start with non-BLPs for testing of the idea. @Megalibrarygirl, SusunW, and Ipigott:, thoughts? --Rosiestep (talk) 16:57, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
- I really like the idea, for multiple reasons. It gives people who may not want to/be comfortable with writing an article a means to contribute by helping to source and edit other biographies, it will hopefully put new authors in a more productive environment where they are encouraged than in AfC (or AfD), etc. Yup, I'd be all for it as long as I don't have to try to design it ;) SusunW (talk) 17:05, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
- If you need an extra set of hands for the programming, Ritchie333, maybe @Bobo.03, Emijrp, and Harej: might have some ideas as they have been helpful with other tools/bots for Women in Red. Maybe there are grants for this sort of thing, e.g. Rapid Grant? --Rosiestep (talk) 17:14, 17 October 2017 (UTC)

(apologies in advance for talking technical gobbledegook on Rosie's page) Okay, I've written some pywikibot code that can pick out candidates for speedy deletion, see if they should be appropriate for WiR, then flags them up. It's in User:Ritchie333/wircsd.py. @Cyberpower678:, @Enterprisey:, does this look like something you could put in a bot? It could be extended to run every 5 minutes or so to a file (instead of just printing the article and the score), then a template could parse that file (kind of how the RfA box is now done?) which would be transcluded on the main project page. Alternatively, I have a Raspberry Pi sitting around doing absolutely nothing that I could put pywikibot on and basically run it as a bot myself, provided I can wrap my head around the bot policies which I've never gone anywhere near until now. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 21:18, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
- See User:EnterpriseyBot/WiR CSD report. Let me know if you want any changes to the format! I'm working on getting it to display the newest pages created with positive scores, as well. Enterprisey (talk!) 03:58, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
- While I think it would be useful to have a tool which identifies new women's biographies which are likely to be candidates for deletion, as an article reviewer and a monitor of AlexBot, I should point out that the vast majority of problem biographies are in fact BLPs. In general, those about women who are no longer living are created by more experienced editors who take care to reference them adequately. Nevertheless, I think it might be interesting to see to what extent a tool can be developed to analyze all new women's biographies to check for serious shortcomings. The negative side of this is that page reviewers keen to find candidates for deletion will also be able to draw on the tool's output. We could then possibly face twice as many AfDs unless we take rapid remedial action. That said, I think it's worth a try. I don't think the tool should run every five minutes. I would suggest at least three hours after article creation as many editors create articles in the mainspace and continue to work on them.--Ipigott (talk) 06:53, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Enterprisey. Thank you for working on a tool for WiR! I've had a chance to review User:EnterpriseyBot/WiR CSD report, and the list doesn't seem to have any articles related to the scope of WiR (women's biographies, women's works, women's issues). Am I missing something? --Rosiestep (talk) 16:30, 21 October 2017 (UTC)
- Also, Ritchie333 - thanks for working on this, Special:Contributions/Ritchie333. I can't make heads or tails of it, but if it works, great! --Rosiestep (talk) 16:33, 21 October 2017 (UTC)

Photo upload
Hi, it's been a long time since I uploaded a photo. Could you take a quick peak? I believe I have all of my ducks in a row as far as fair use rationale, etc., but I'd like an expert opinion. Please let me know if I need to fix anything. Thanks!! here Juneau Mike (talk) 03:53, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Michaelh2001 - Hmm, I've never uploaded a film poster to Commons so I'm not sure about this. Pagestalkers, can you help? --Rosiestep (talk) 07:54, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks. I did have my "ducks in a row," so to speak, but another editor helped me lower the posters resolution/size to avoid any copyright issues. I can always count on you and our fellow collaborators to help me. You're the best! The related article is, Akron (2015 film). I'm pretty happy with the article, although I have more research to do in order to get it to good article status. Thanks again! Juneau Mike (talk) 18:37, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
Global online Wikipedia Asian Art Month (Nov 1-30) with WikiProject Metropolitan Museum of Art
You are invited to join the global online Wikipedia Asian Art Month (sign up here!), running November 1-30. As part of Wikipedia:Wikipedia Asian Month, there will be Met postcards for all who participate, and art books as grand prizes. Asian Month
Hi, Ser Amantio is putting up two large biographical dictionary book prizes on Japanese and Arabic women writers for Asian women bios, see WIR talk page. Can anybody watching this page or yourself help publicize this and try to invite the usual Asian month contributors/organizers to simultanesouly put their articles into this contest? I think it might be more productive for both contests that way.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:15, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
- That's a good idea. Maybe this year's WAM folks could promote it?! --Rosiestep (talk) 20:21, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
- Is there a link to this year's one. Also would be good to have a full list of last years contributors and a mass message invote send out.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:22, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
I will email Erick above and see if he can look into it as well.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:23, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

I see. Congrats on the 500th article BTW!♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:25, 6 November 2017 (UTC)
Antoinette de Saliès
Ipigott, I just created Antoinette de Saliès, a translation from fr:Antoinette de Saliès. I can't sort out the word "viguer" (or "Viguière"). Do you know what it means? --Rosiestep (talk) 16:15, 8 November 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Rosie. It's a medieval term used in the south of France and is roughly equivalent to a high-ranking magistrate or judge. A viguier was originally appointed by the count responsible for the province or later by the king and acted as the judicial authority in the area he covered. It comes from the Latin vicarius (representative) which gives us vicar in English, originally a bishop's representative in the days of Catholicism. Hope that helps.--Ipigott (talk) 17:31, 8 November 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you, Ipigott. That makes sense, and I've made the change on the article page. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:37, 8 November 2017 (UTC)
- I've just looked at the article. I think you would keep the flavour of the original if you translated viguier as marquess and viguière as marchioness.--Ipigott (talk) 17:54, 8 November 2017 (UTC)
- Done. Thank you, Ipigott. --Rosiestep (talk) 18:04, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

Not sure if she qualifies as a "woman writer" or not. She wrote letters? I found a cat, but did not put her on the Project page or list of women writers, because I was unsure. SusunW (talk) 23:39, 27 November 2017 (UTC)

Help with article?
Hi,
I noticed that you're a member of the Women in Technology project and I wonder whether you might like to review Draft: Caryn Marooney, an executive at Facebook who runs communications there. I have a WP: COI, so must reach out for an independent review of my submissions, although I'm an experienced Wikipedia editor (hardly at your level, though).
FYI, I submit articles through WP: AfC all the time and my general impression is that reviewers are tougher on articles about women. Hard for me to prove this considering my small sample size (this is only the 4th woman of 10 BLPs I've submitted through AfC, 9 of which have been approved so far.) But I wonder if someone looked for a year at the rate of first and second rejections for BLP submitted at AfC, comparing women to men, if there would be a difference. My hunch is it would be substantial.
Thanks for considering this!
BC1278 (talk) 20:15, 19 December 2017 (UTC)BC1278
- Hi BC1278. Thanks for reaching out to me and thanks for the work that you do around here. However, as I don't work on BLPs, I'll have to take a pass on reviewing this article. You might consider asking here; Women in Red is the wikiproject dedicated to creating new women's biographies and some of the members do work on BLPs. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:49, 19 December 2017 (UTC)
