Re: Gervonta Davis

[edit]

Greetings. Mainstream media has referred to Davis as a three-weight champion: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5]. However, because of the WBA's Super/Regular title mess, there is dissent and rightly so: [6]. What we cannot do is change the terminology on Davis's page without first discussing the matter extensively at WikiProject Boxing.

There has been prior discussion, even somewhat recently, but nothing conclusive. Such discussion would need to be revisited in order for Davis's article, including many others, to be changed. Plenty of ways to go about it, but discussion comes first. Hope that helps. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 11:47, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Main stream media refers to Davis as 3 weight champ, because of Floyd and PBC's promotional work. But the main thing is that Davis never fought WBA(super) super-featherweight champion Alberto Machado, he never fought WBA(super) lightweight champion Devin Haney, And he never fought WBA(Super) super-lightweight champion Josh Taylor. So in truth Davis is a 2 divison champion. Ronten5 (talk) 16:00, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Re: WBA'S own website list Gilberto Ramírez as world champion and not as super champion.

[edit]

Their rankings page lists him as Super champion, with a date. Until they're both amended to "world champion", Super should be retained. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 21:17, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Juan Manuel Márquez

[edit]

Several times you've incorrectly labelled him a three-weight champion, when he held the full WBO light welterweight title in 2012–13; they promoted him from interim in that time. Once again, you are urged to get your facts straight. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 22:33, 28 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Granted he never really held the title since it was stripped by WBO for fighting Bradley. But nonetheless he was still officially a champion, so yeah you can label him as 4 division champion.Ronten5 (talk) 22:47, 28 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
