Poking

[edit]

Hi Mr. Leader. I'm assuming your question is in reference to the Maxi article. Poking in fighting games is the art of using quick, fast attacks. The idea is that a fast attack will negate a slow attack since it hits first, and will likely cause a counter hit (see List of Soul Calibur terms or List of fighting game terms).

as for why i reverted your comment about how maxi is an excellent character if mastered, read on. for some background, I am involved in the soul calibur community (see forums at soulcalibur.com) and it is nearly consensus is that Maxi is the second worst character in the game (after Yunsung). this is not my opinion, but the result of 2-3 years of research of his advantages and disadvantages (2002-2004 prob), as well as of all the characters pros and cons. i am not an expert Maxi player, but you should go to his Soul Arena or search for "ranking project" on soul calibur.com to see why he is ranked so low. if i recall correctly, it really boils down to his lack of strength in any area and his low damage potential when compared to the other characters. although it seems like maxi is really amazing with his flashy moves at first, it comes down to blocking all his strings and then retaliating (and he is at a large disadvantage when blocked...as in his opponent recovers much faster). he does not have great mid/low mixups either and becomes rather predictable. and also, he is VERY hard to learn b/c of his stance game and how it transitions. even when mastered, he is not strong enough to match up against an equally skilled opponent using another character.

Thanks about that. The reason why I said he was good when mastered is because I forgot that I thought I used the Vajira, his ultimant "good" weapon, and that greaty increases his attack, and I thought that most of the attack strangth was natural. I kinda have mastered him, and he is HORRIFYINGLY difficult to master. I mostly use mind games Rogue Leader 22:13, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
