[edit]Greetings! What's your source for the file File:Tucson Pride, Inc logo.jpeg, so we can verify that it is under a Creative Commons license and may be freely reused? —C.Fred (talk) 21:41, 3 November 2015 (UTC)
File source problem with File:Tucson Pride, Inc logo.jpeg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Tucson Pride, Inc logo.jpeg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.
If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 22:31, 3 November 2015 (UTC)
Be careful editing an article when you're an officer in the subject organization
[edit]Hello, Robert Rowlkey. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Tucson Pride, you may have a conflict of interest. People with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, see the conflict of interest guideline and frequently asked questions for organizations. In particular, please:
- avoid editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, its competitors, or projects and products you or they are involved with;
- instead, propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the
{{request edit}}
template); - avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use require disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.
Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing, and autobiographies. Thank you. —C.Fred (talk) 01:48, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
- It would probably be a good idea for you to declare your conflict of interest via the {{Connected contributor}} or {{Connected contributor (paid)}} template on Talk:Tucson Pride. —C.Fred (talk) 18:06, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
Fred, if you read the page you'll see that we are an all volunteer board. NO ONE receives ANY compensation whatsoever. Further, if you read the page I defy you to should any bias or anything biased. Tucson Pride is historically the oldest LGBT group in Arizona and the rest of the page is simple fact, no opinion. There is no conflict of interest and I will not mark that there is.
- As the webmaster and vice president, which you asserted at File:TucsonPrideLogoLargeNew 7.jpg, you have a conflict of interest by definition. —C.Fred (talk) 20:02, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
Why do I have to answer to you? Or DO I have to answer to you? If I do then please put me in touch with your superior. Baring that I'll simply take the page off line and have a friend of mine put it back up.

Request reason:
We no longer authorize Wikipedia to use our name or any of our logos and we wish the Tucson Pride page deleted asap. Failure to do so may result in litigation Robert Rowlkey (talk) 23:21, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
Decline reason:
Because you used your right to edit this talk page to post legal threats which is very not permitted here, your right to file further unblock requests has been revoked. Max Semenik (talk) 23:50, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
I have been continually harassed by C. Fred since day one. This is a clear cut case of LGBT discrimination. I posted NOTHING wrong and the page looked good. This is going to become a media matter if this harrassment continues. I have kept screencaps of EVERYTHING. THe court of public opinion can be a real bitch.
- Actually, no, this isn't a case of harassment. This is a case of a Wikipedia administrator informing you of the guidelines by which Wikipedia is governed. Since you work for the organization in question (whether on a paid or voluntary basis), you have a conflict of interest, and you should disclose that conflict of interest when editing articles about the organization you are involved with. This does not mean you can't edit, only that your editing must be above board. The article you created was not bad, and has been restored. The logo you uploaded qualifies for use on the English Wikipedia under United Stated fair use rules, and has been marked as such. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:38, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. —C.Fred (talk) 20:37, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
Copyright issues
[edit]Robert, you have claimed that you are the copyright owner of:
- File:Pride on Parade.jpg
- File:TucsonPrideLogoLargeNew 7.jpg
- File:Stonewall Democrats Arizona.jpg
- File:Tucson Pride Logo 150 dpi.jpg
but these all appear to be logos of organizations (Tucson Pride and Stonewall Democrats of Arizona). You, as the webmaster of these organizations, do not necessarily own the copyrights; the organizations themselves own those rights. Even if you are the artist who created the logos, unless you have a specific legal agreement with the organizations that you would retain rights to the logos (unlikely, as most organizations like to keep those rights to themselves), it is likely that you forfeited the rights when you sold or donated the artwork to the organizations. At the very least, Wikipedia will need evidence that the organizations are willing to let their logos "into the wild" in this manner: by releasing them under the CC by SA license, you are allowing any other organization to use the logo in their publications with the only requirement being that they somewhere attribute the logo to your organizations. I doubt most organizations want their logos so freely available. That is why the fair use rationale at Wikipedia requires that only low resolution images be used: so as to prevent the unauthorized use of hi-res logo images by others. Again, further harassment by Wikipedia. Please be advised that media is now documenting these actions.Robert Rowlkey (talk) 16:04, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:Tucson Pride, Inc logo.jpeg

However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. What do I have to do to be able to continue to use this image on the Tucson Pride page?Robert Rowlkey (talk) 19:02, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
Assuming good faith
[edit]Hi there, I have been somewhat keeping up with your Stonewall Democrats of Arizona and Tucson Pride. I wanted to inform you of something Wikipedia editors acknowledge: assuming good faith. This is the believed notion that Wiki edits are made with good intentions. Without this, Wikipedia would not be able to exist.
I mention this because it saddens me that you petty-attacked other users who attempted to uphold Wikipedia's copyright policies when you played the "discrimination card". It also saddens me that you discriminated and labeled a Christian as a "homophobe", and assumed bad faith. I understand that you are new, so let's work together to create a better Wikipedia. My edits on your pages, and all articles, are made with good intentions. And just a side note, users can identify with a particular group but be level-headed and impartial. Please do not assume with such haste in the future. I look forward to working with you in the future, if you have any questions please post on my talk page.
Cheers,
TheCaliforniaKansan (talk) 19:42, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello Robert Rowlkey, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your addition to Tucson Pride has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. John from Idegon (talk) 21:35, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
Ok, here's the deal John. I am the one who developed the current Tucson Pride logo and, as Vice President and webmaster and historian of Tucson Pride I authorize myself to use the logo that I created for the organization that I am the Vice President (recognized by the State of Arizona Secretary of State) of. Further I am the one who researched and developed the history of Tucson Pride and further I am the person who built the damned page. I will be adding something about Wikipedia to the bottom of the Tucson Pride website (http://tucsonpride.org) mentioning that I approve myself to use the logo and text. Further, I have the code to the page saved and should the page go down it WILL be put right back up. Further, in that you and I have had so many problems I wish to deal with a higher authority than one who obviously has a personal problem with my work.Robert Rowlkey (talk) 00:23, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
If you look at the bottom of the website found at http://tucsonpride.org you will now find "©1977 - 2015 TLGA/Tucson Pride, a 501 (c)(3) Non-Profit Organization
"Tucson Pride", "Pride in the Desert", "Pride on Parade" and cactus logo registered trademarks. Use of names, logos and historical quotes approved for use on Wikipedia. All Rights Reserved."Robert Rowlkey (talk) 00:24, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
- @Robert Rowlkey:, could you also include that on the history page regarding the text? Because your addition to your website only allows Wikipedia to use the logo images, not the content word for word, as the rights are still reserved here: http://tucsonpride.org/history.html. Thanks! -TheCaliforniaKansan (talk) 00:34, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
Thanks CK. This: "©1977 - 2015 TLGA/Tucson Pride, a 501 (c)(3) Non-Profit Organization "Tucson Pride", "Pride in the Desert", "Pride on Parade" and cactus logo registered trademarks. The use of all content approved for use on Wikipedia-The Free Encyclopedia. All Rights Reserved." is now at the bottom of the page at http://tucsonpride.org and http://tucsonpride/hitory.html I appreciate the help.
- That is not a sufficient release. Still cannot use it. Considering what it used to say, I will content any copypaste of it, because I doubt the copyrights of the people you copied it from claiming fair use are being upheld and even if they are, that says nothing about our use of it. There is only one way it can be used, and that is if the original copyright holders released it under CC BY-SA 3.0. John from Idegon (talk) 01:28, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
- And nothing you do here or on the article talk page is going to mitigate the problem. See the link above on donating copyrighted material. John from Idegon (talk) 01:29, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
- Robert, please read WP:DCM, and please watch what you type. No one owns Wikipedia, including yourself. And editing the talk page can make things difficult to comprehend. Please read the linked page. -TheCaliforniaKansan (talk) 06:22, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
The new release, while being insufficient as John from Idegon notes above, is directly contradicted by "This site contains copyrighted material the use of which has not always been specifically authorized by the copyright owner." Restoration of the material will result in a block. --NeilN talk to me 12:00, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
November 2015
[edit]Please take this opportunity to be sure you understand our copyright policy and our policies regarding how to use non-free content. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by first reading the guide to appealing blocks, then adding the following text below this notice:
{{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
. NeilN talk to me 15:48, 7 November 2015 (UTC)Note that indefinite does not mean permanent. To be unblocked you need to convince the reviewing admin that you understand and are willing to abide by Wikipedia copyright policies. Also, calling efforts to remove your copyright violations or text that is improperly licensed "censorship" and "vandalism" is not acceptable. --NeilN talk to me 15:55, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
Notice
[edit]@NeilN: just an FYI, the blocked user previously posted:
Delete it John and I WILL replace it. Period. You do NOT own or run Wikipedia and your articles may start to disappear as well. Out of spite if nothing else I will post this page FOREVER if I have to. Block my IP and I'll be back 10 min. later with a new one. Close my account and I'll be back within minutes. If you're going to make this a personal thing then you best be ready to take as well as get and there is notyhing you can do about it. BTW, the page is PERMANENTLY archived on the Wayback Machine as well.
- TheCaliforniaKansan, socking will just result in page protection. I'll keep an eye on the article. --NeilN talk to me 18:37, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks Neil -TheCaliforniaKansan (talk) 18:38, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
Remove the page now. I do not want Wikipedia using the Tucson Pride logo or name in any way, shape or form and wish our page removed from this highly questionable and unethical sight.Robert Rowlkey (talk) 22:38, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
- Why remove it? I don't know how this all got so out of hand. The article is not going to be deleted, and indeed, a Google News search does show that this organization is notable -- as I argued in no uncertain terms at the now-withdrawn deletion discussion. The Tucson Pride article needs to be improved, with some of those news sources added, but hopefully we can all calm down and move forward. And on a personal note, kudos to the good people at Tucson Pride for the great work they do. Now let's have a pleasant weekend! Shawn in Montreal (talk) 06:12, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
