Speedy deletion nomination of MBio

[edit]

A tag has been placed on MBio requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Re. Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/mBio

Conversation in IRC

[13:29] <robbya12> http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/mBio

[13:30] <Chzz> yep, I just found it! ta. give me a few mins to read up what happened, etc

[13:31] <Chzz> robbya12 can I make some quick comments here, things for you to fix, and can you fix 'em - or if you don't understand what I mean, ask - is that OK?

[13:33] <robbya12> Sounds great. Just need the feedback. Thanks.

[13:36] <Chzz> mmm, ok, yep. That blocked user shouldn't have declined it; certainly not with that reasoning. That's a pain. I will have to review all his works.

[13:36] <Chzz> I've put it back to 'reviewing' status. I think it will be 'acceptable' but some things need sorting out. I will put them here.

[13:37] <Chzz> *You can't have links to external websites within the body-text. The article should start with just mBio is a peer-reviewed journal... (so that the subject is in bold - but not a link

[13:37] <Chzz> *remove link to ...unveiled the mBio website for same reason

[13:38] <Chzz> *"ASM’s first broad-scope, open-access publication." - this is not neutral; sounds a bit spammy. Probably can't be sourced (to an independent, reliable source) so prob remove it

[13:39] <Chzz> *re. "Name" - In naming the journal, ASM coined a new term meant to reflect the journal's broad scope and cutting-edge style. - not neutral; opinion, not fact (I think)

[13:40] <Chzz> *The name “mBio” suggests an abbreviation of the word microbiology. - needs a reference, or remove it. Sounds like 'original research' which is not permitted

[13:40] <Chzz> *"took questions about the new journal" <--- avoid using the word 'new' - remove it. The article should be 'timeless'

[13:46] <robbya12> Ok, I think I can make corrections to most/all of these items.

[13:46] <robbya12> Thanks for looking into this. I just wanted another set of eyes on it, but I didn't want to look like I was gaming the system or anything.

[13:49] <Chzz> yes, absolutely. Apart from those points, the other advice is, please try and add a few more INDEPENDENT reliable sources

[13:49] <Chzz> such as other journals or something talking ABOUT this pub

[13:50] <Chzz> So, I will put this 'on hold' - please work on what I said above. If you need help, ask. And, to be honest, prob the best thing to do is, speak to ME - personally - again, after you have tweaked it up.

[13:50] <Chzz> to contact me: (1) here, (2) on my "user talk page" http://enwp.org/User_talk:Chzz (3) email chzz@live.co.uk (in that order of speed/preference)

[13:51] <Chzz> & if you can fix those things, I will happily make it live.

[13:51] <Chzz> OK?

[13:52] <robbya12> Ok, I will look around for sources. Might be a little difficult since the journal is so new. Either way, I'll definitely get back with you after editing. Thanks again.

[13:52] <Chzz> right, cheers then. Do ask for help when you need it.

[13:52] <Chzz> With a little work, I'm sure this can go live

[13:52] <Chzz> sorry about the blocked user stuff; I'm now gonna check all his other things

[13:53] <robbya12> No problem. Sorry you have to clean that up.

[13:53] <Chzz> when we make it live, we can get it featured on the main page too

[13:53] <Chzz> "Did you know..." thing.

[13:53] <Chzz> That means a few thousand ppl will see it

[13:53] <robbya12> Sure, that'd be great!

[13:53] <Chzz> (look at the main page of Wikipedia, "Did you know..." to see how that goes)

[13:54] <Chzz> it is for new articles - has to be nominated within 5 days of going live, and has to have decent refs, and has to be over a certain size - which the article is.

[13:54] <Chzz> so it should be OK for a DYK nomination, when we make it live

[13:55] <robbya12> Looks like I need to get to work then. Talk to you again soon.

[13:55] <Chzz> sure; I will also put some info on our chat on yr user talk page

[13:55] <Chzz> cheers

[13:58] <Chzz> ooh - robbya12 - quick q for you

[13:59] <robbya12> ?

[13:59] <Chzz> This chat, right here - is it OK with you if I make it 'public'? I have to ask. That way, I can copy from this window to your wikipedia page, which makes life easier

[14:00] <robbya12> Yes sounds good. I'll work off it from that page then.

[14:00] <Chzz> 'coz then other users can see what I suggested, etc. Instead of me having to extract just the applicable parts, and re-type stuff

[14:00] <Chzz> great

[14:00] <Chzz> thanks
