Gascony + Viking invasion
[edit]Hi ! it seems you added info on viking invasions to Gascony. I checked the etymologies of Hossegor and Bayonne on the relevant wikipedia articles for these cities. Here is what i wrote on the talk page for gascony. Could you possibly have look. Cheers. I-do-do-you? 20:56, 5 January 2007 (UTC) This Etymology of Bayonne (Bjornhamn) is controversial. According to french wiki-article on Bayonne, is would be derived from Bai Ona, "the hill of the river", or "good river". Please cite your sources.
Etymology of Hossegor is also disputed. According to french wiki-article on Hossegor, it could come from " Hosse" and "gor" (deep ditch). Please cite reference.
- Sorry. It wasn't me. The only edit I made to that article was to remove a probably incorrect date from the Viking section and that edit was 9 months ago. Rmhermen 21:28, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
Barnstar
[edit]I think you deserve a barnstar for you patience in handling round after round of Corn vs. Maize debates. I'm not sure that I would have had the stamina. I'm sure there are many other reasons why you would deserve additional barnstars too (such as for your many contributions to the Maize article itself), but I will leave that to others. -- Solipsist 11:22, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
List of Testudines families
[edit]Thanks for helping out with the article, but I don't like the seperation of the table. It stuffs up their widths at my resolution. I also don't see an advantage to it, so it seems like it has been worsened aethsetically for no gain. What was the reason for the change? Thanks --liquidGhoul 22:39, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- The 2nd table is about 4 cm wider than the first table. It is caused by the common names of the families. Podocnemididae has a long common name, and so it takes up as much room as possible. The first table has none with long names, so it doesn't take up the max. amount of room. --liquidGhoul 23:30, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- I made a small table code change. Does this solve the width problem? Rmhermen 23:51, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Lists of Words
[edit]There's a discussion going on at Wikipedia_talk:What_Wikipedia_is_not#Lists of Words over the interpretation of policy regarding lists of words. As a fairly recent contributor to [List of British words not widely used in the United States], you might wish to add to the debate, as it affects several AfDs going on, and a current Deletion Review. Thanks. WLD 21:09, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
Fleagle Gang Article
[edit]Rmhermen:
You asked if I (Marklemagne) had the authority to reproduce the content on the Fleagle Gang which also appears on http://markgribben.com.
I am the author of that piece and the sole operator of markgribben.com, so I believe that I can reproduce it according to the terms I saw on the Wikipedia: Copyrights page. I don't know much about copyright law, so I don't know if I created some kind of problem because of the Creative Commons license on my personal website and the GFDL. As far as I, as the author and grantor of the CC rights, I'm only too happy to allow Wikipedia to do with that article as the community sees fit.
I added the Fleagle Gang article not to drive traffic to my website, but because I stumbled across a user's request for articles on certain criminals and I happened to know a bit about the gang.
I hope this clarifies the situation. If my article remains on the Wikipedia site, should we add something to ensure other users are not vexed by this same question?
Thank you,
Mark Gribben

Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Chad
[edit]Hi, I saw your comment on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Chad. While I have no map of Ade, Chad, you may want to ask User:Aldux. Thanks for starting the page. If you're really into Chad, please join the WikiProject. Thanks, Tchadienne 19:28, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- I am working on maps for Chad now. Rmhermen 03:55, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
Templates:
[edit]- Template:Agricultural production box looks alright, and I doubt it can be further streamlined besides removing the extra table line. If it'syour first time dealing with optional parameters, I tip my hat to you. I'd consider making the footer in a smaller font, and maybe parametering it (with the current content as a default) so that people can use other sources.
- Template:City locator is unnecessary: look at Template:Superimpose (documentation on Template talk:Superimpose). If you want, I can speedy your creation.
Circeus 01:21, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for that link. I redesigned my template to include both the locator dot and the city name. It seems to work now. Rmhermen 03:55, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
Help with GJRFMorelligu
[edit]Hello, Rmhermen. I am currently having trouble with User:GJRFMorelligu. I have tagged many of his images with {{PUIdisputed}}, and listed the images at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images. Instead of visiting that page to justify his various claims that the images are indeed released under the GFDL, or are in the public domain, or whatever, he is removing the {{PUIdisputed}} tags from the image description pages. I have asked him several times to stop; first at User talk:GJRFMorelligu#Images you have uploaded, then in my edit summaries to restore the tags, then in comments above and below the tags themselves, then at User talk:GJRFMorelligu#DO NOT REMOVE PUIdisputed TAGS, and then in big bilingual comments, but he seems to have ignored me (see, for example, [1]).
A similar thing usually happens when I tag any of his images with {{no source}} or {{no license}}. He always removes these tags. Sometimes he provides useful source information, but often he just changes to a different random copyright tag with no explanation (see, for example, [2]). I have added {{fair use disputed}} tags to some of his images, but these are invariably deleted as well.
I believe that many of the images he has uploaded have very inadequate source information and probably false licensing information. I am coming to you for help because I know that you have dealt with this user before (your name pops up in most of the image histories). Advice would be appreciated. —Bkell (talk) 02:09, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
- I had hoped that user was improving. I left a message at the Admin Noticeboard, perhaps someone else will have more luck discussing this with the user. Rmhermen 03:55, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

Misrad-1 note
[edit]I saw the note on the Misrad-1 usage that you posted on the UAV article. As I'm slowly reworking much of the UAV content on WP, I'm interested in more on this usage. I'll eventually be writing an article on the Misrad-1, and this would be a good item to include. Can you point me to an external like that would be a good source, and which would provide additional details of Hezboallah's usage? Thanks! Akradecki 20:31, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

- Article is up at
Misrad-1Mirsad-1 (ya got me doing the dislexic thing, too!). Someone else already wrote a stub on the Mheger 4, and since there is some reports that the Misrad might not be a Mheger, I decided to do a seperate article for the type. I'll also be researching and expanding the Mheger article. Thanks again for the assistance! Akradecki 03:21, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Chad: towns & cities
[edit]Thanks for your interest in these places. I don't think either Aozou or Ade would qualify as a "city". Neither is much more than a dot on the map and, in these thinly populated regions, where most of the population is nomadic (or at least semi-nomadic) the population fluctuates with the seasons, migration patterns and other factors, such as the state of security in the surrounding area. What both have is some sort of water supply, so, in times of crisis, people are likely to congregate there. Getting up-to-date, verifiable, info. on these places isn't easy, though. GJRFMorelligu possibly evading block
[edit]Hello again, Rmhermen. I just thought I'd let you know about User:Caracas 2000, who appears to be User:GJRFMorelligu by a different name (probably to evade his 237-day block). Caracas' edits have popped up on some of the images that Morelligu uploaded and that I'm watching; so far I haven't seen anything as bad as Morelligu's blatant copyvios, but Caracas seems to have the same level of English proficiency as Morelligu and a rather poor grasp of the concept of fair use, and there are edits like this that make me think that Caracas is Morelligu reincarnated (notice that Caracas refers to himself as the provider of that image).
I'm posting this here because I'm not sure about the correct procedure for reporting things like this. The relevant talk on Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard has been archived, and I'm not sure I have strong enough evidence to post on Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets. Please let me know if I should do something else about this. —Bkell (talk) 04:06, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the correction
[edit]Thanks Rmhermen for that correction, because that was my mistake, now i solved it.
Thanks
- Thanks for correcting it. I believe it is all correct now as a fair use image. Rmhermen 16:16, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit]I see that the user Bkell, says that i´m a user called Morelligu, and his proves are that i put something in a image of Fredy Reyna, i´m new in this of Wikipedia, and i enter to this encyclopedia because i see many articles about venezuela, i want to contribute, now i´m doing that, tryng to solve the images and making new articles.
Thanks

While we've shared disagreement in the past over Midwest, I nonetheless have noticed and been impressed with your work on several wine articles on Wikipedia. I would love if you would considering joining the Wikipedia Wine Project. I think you could offer considerable value to the project and I would look forward to working with you on friendlier grounds and maybe sharing a glass or two? :) Agne 02:50, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
Vegetable oils rename discussion
[edit]Just wanted to say that I appreciate the general even-headedness with which you're participating in the discussion over renaming Vegetable oils. Even though the other participants (so far, at least) don't agree with you, you're doing a good job of reasoning it out, in preference to other, more common, and much less pleasant ways of reaching consensus. Good job! Waitak 15:21, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry... all of the responses to your request for renaming the vegetable oils page were oppose. You can't just summarily do the rename without following up on the discussion, because you disagreed with the feedback that you asked for. There were concrete proposals and questions there that you have yet to respond to. Please follow due process, okay? Waitak 10:31, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
- I hadn't noticed that Plant oils had been created - it wasn't noted in the talk page. I'll retract my objection to the redirect and reinstate it. On reflection, I'm not sure that there's an ideal solution, but I can live with this one. Waitak 10:38, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
I'd love for you to weigh in on the discussion at Talk:Vegetable fats and oils before we reach a conclusion. You have had some strong opinions on the subject, and we're getting close to a consensus on how to reorganize. Now's the time to speak up, if you'd like to. Waitak 08:58, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your support of Larrys Creek's FAC. I appreciate it very much. If the color orange is still not showing up well, please say so. Do you think it would be better just to call it brown or tan? Anyway, thanks again, Ruhrfisch 20:48, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- You could hardly call it anything but orange atr full size. It is just at thumb size it appears to be brownish. I think we had best leave it called orange. Rmhermen 03:03, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
- I have also noticed it looks different on different computer screens, but Kmusser's fix seems to have helped it some - ah technology. Thanks again, Ruhrfisch 20:44, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

You added the statement that Voyager 1 would be the farthest object until 2070. I cannot find any spacecraft that will pass it at any date. Rmhermen 18:57, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
- I made the assumption that New Horizons would hold its speed, which is currently 4.956 AU/year relative to the Sun (vs. 3.615 for Voyeger 1), which was probably wrong of me to do. I don't know how much NASA expects NH to slow down or speed up. But the year 2070 came from a simple calculation of the difference between the 2 speeds. Do you have any more info on the projected velocity of NH as it leaves the solar system? Thanks for catching this error. Leon7 19:26, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
How can you edit
[edit]How can you edit the template of the Presidents of Venezuela, because the real name is Andrés Narvarte, not Navarte, can you change that.
Caracas 2000 00:47, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- Go to an page which uses it and hit edit. Below the edit box will be a list of links to all the templates used. Go to the correct one and edit it. However, I don't see why Navarte should be changed. The only names in Template:Presidents of Venezuela with more than the last name are names which need disambiguation and they only have the first initial. Rmhermen 00:55, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
Hello Rmhermen
[edit]I have a question, what tag can i put in a photo of the National Geographic Magazine, of August, 1976.
Caracas 2000 15:18, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- A photo of that date is certainly still copyrighted. It might be possible to use it as a WP:Fair use image but the requirements are strict. Rmhermen 16:20, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
I don't agree with the removal of many of the pictures - They can easily be placed in a gallery anyway, since most of them are PD (the ones of the placards MIGHT not be) WhisperToMe 03:41, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Elimination of External Links
[edit]I noticed that you changed a number of the external links in the article White Mountain art. Although I have a number of images in the article, there were references to other images that I linked to images of these paintings on White Mountain Art & Artists. IMO, thses images greatly help the article, allowing the user to see the paintings I have referred to. Can you explain why you eliminated these exterenal links? I'd like to put them back, but I wanted to "talk" about the issues first. Thanks. JJ 11:56, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
- Several points: that page is already linked in the external links page; there is no reason to link those pictures we already have images of on Wikipedia; external links do not belong in image captions; excess linkage to singular site gives appearance of link spam. All in all, we don't need the links - we either have the images or could and our text should give the explanation. Rmhermen 13:05, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
- In the section titled Benjamin Champney and the allure of North Conway, I refer to two paintings, neither of which I had space to include in the article. Their titles are Mount Washington from Sunset Hill and Artists sketching the the White Mountains. You removed the links to images of these paintings. I don't consider this link spam; it enhances the user experience to be able to view these paintings. Can you explain why I should not link to images of these paintings? Also, I was already taken to task for the Characteristics of the Artists gallery for having so many images. But, no one could suggest a better presentation. I have many images already, and I don't feel that more images could be well presented. JJ 21:33, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
- I uploaded the Mount Washington image and created a link to it on Wikipedia. The second image mentioned may be a good addition to the article as it fits well with the first artist colony statement. The text of the section may need to be expanded to support that many images though. Rmhermen 21:55, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

You left me a note on commons about this. The pale green area is Nagorno-Karabakh, a self-proclaimed but de facto independent republic within Azerbaijan. I figured the most neutral situation was to include it but color it differently. So the rayons that are part of N-K are dark green. I made these maps before I got the bright idea to actually explain my maps in the image file, rather than letting the article define them, so I'll eventually get back to that and explain that.
Even more complex is Image:Azerbaijan-Kalbajar.png, where the rayon is only halfway in N-K. --Golbez 10:05, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
Licensing
[edit]You added a license statement to the Champney image that is too broad. Champney died in 1907, so, technically, he has not been dead for 100 years. Unfortunately, this is true for other images, such as those of Thomas Hill paintings, since he died in 1908. How should this be handled and/or corrected? These images are in the Public Domain in the US. JJ 13:17, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
- Found it. That tag was originally written as life-plus-70 but later one country in the world, Mexico, was found which uses life-plus-100 (since 2003). I found an alternate tag: Template:PD-art-life-70. Rmhermen 13:42, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
Map for Migration Period?
[edit]I notice your request for an English language map for the Migration Period article. I would like to try to tackle that. Is there anything I should know before starting? I presume the data on the present map is (reasonably) correct? I would appreciate any additional instructions. Thank you, MapMaster 19:57, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
- I don't see any notable problems with the lines. I do see a readability problem with some of the text colors (mainly where the browns overlap the blues). I think all of the terms are translated on the English Wiki page. Good luck. Rmhermen 20:10, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
- I have uploaded my first go at the map. I will add dates and some names to the map itself later today or so, but I first wanted to see how it looked on the page (e.g. is the text readable, etc) before further. FYI, MapMaster 18:33, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Sources for removing unsupported claims
[edit]I find idea of taking time and providing sources information to back up removing rumors or someones original researches totally insane. I believe the guy who introduce information into article should be the one who have to back his edit. And I would bet most will agree with me. So please stop vandalizing wiki. TestPilot 01:50, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

I don't care whether that box is there, but it seems weird the box links to that page and we don't include it, so if you don't think it's a history article then you might want to inform the makers of that box so they can remove that link. --plange 21:13, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
Ummm.
[edit]You reverted my edits (including some which were not in any way contentious). What process, exactly, leads you to do that? There is no wikipedia requirement that I discuss edits before I do them, and I do not believe that my edits can be construed as vandalism in any way.
There is a very clear distinction between spaceflight and space exploration, and the wikipedia (as you have reverted it) significantly confuses the two.WolfKeeper 20:47, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
- You made major undiscussed changes and marked them as minor. This in itself can be contrued as vandalism. You also removed important parts of the the space exploration article which are necessary to show the development of space exploration. Rmhermen 20:53, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
- Want to bet? I didn't remove, I only moved them within the wikipedia, and to an article that a redirect said was the same thing. On the other hand, you have just removed an entire multipage article, for apparently no good reason. Do you have any reason that I shouldn't revert atleast spaceflight?WolfKeeper 21:29, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
The Henry Ford may not in the city (...
[edit]Sorry Rmhermen,
I didn't agree with you removing the Henry Ford passage from the Detroit article. While you are correct it is not in the city (by about 3 miles), I feel that it is worth mentioning in the article. I think that there are other things that are not in the city that could be removed first, i.e. the Somerset Collection and Great Lakes crossing mall passages. Regards, MJCdetroit 02:30, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
P.S. I see that just reverted my edit. If you feel this strongly about this perhaps we should discuss this on Detroit's talk page first. MJCdetroit 02:33, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

First off, I'm seriously pressed for time here. Saturday is my work day, so I'm presently preoccupied with that. second, User talk:Rmhermen, you are strictly a Wiki Administrator - correct? I wish to know why Authors of these Wikipedia Encyclopedia entries don't sign their signatures on them, such as for example, the entry "X-ray"? It's very difficult for someone like me who's pressed for time to have to spend my time searching for these Authors when instead I should be spending my time posing questions to these Authors; aren't most of these Authors experts or auhtorities themselves on these encyclopedia entries? How much control do you, as a Wiki-Administrator, actually have over these Author signatures?
Now then, in what little time I have left, for my question (I wish I were a speed typist); Can you please pass this on to the Author of "X-ray" Encyclopedia entry?; I'm searching for an inexpensive portable X-ray device for personal medical use; or would it be more cost effective for me to build my own X-ray device from scratch, or from a mail-order-kit, both of which I could include radiation protection features in their design? If I had my own personal x-ray device, then I could save myself the travel time and waiting time for a physician's appointment. I widh to operate my personal medical X-ray device to take images, myself, of the physical conditon of my own internal anatomy - I'm age 45 (specifically my bones, vertabrae, ligaments, cartilage, and spinal discs.).
Please read my original post ( i'm getting ready for work now!). --MyPresentCPUisTooSlow 21:57, 14 October 2006 (UTC)MyPresentCPUisTooSlow
- Signing articles is against our policies. Many people contribute to each and every article. These authors can be found by pressing the history tab. Many of these will be experts in grammar, not x-rays. However, I can tell you that you that airport x-ray machines are not medical x-ray machines and even if you had the skill to construct an appropriate one, you would still need the skills to correctly take the image and to correctly interpret the image. This is normally the work of three different kinds of trained specialists. X-ray machines may need to be licensed and you may need to be licensed to operate it. Altogether it is a considerable danger and you are better off not. Rmhermen 23:27, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

"Nord-Brabant"

References
[edit]You have made a couple of edits which claim to add columns to the reference section. I can't see any difference. Does this only work on some systems? Rmhermen 18:01, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
- Yep, take a look at today's featured article, Slate industry in Wales; The same code exists in it's references section. It's pretty common among the featured articles as we can't use the col-start, col-break and col-end on the collected references. Technically, it's code from CSS3. It'll display in Firefox, but not Internet Explorer. --Brad Beattie (talk) 23:20, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

Article survey statistics
[edit]I noticed your article survey on your userpage and thought it might be interesting to repeat the experiment. My 250-article sample is obviously tiny, but what's overrepresented and what's underrepresented is not terribly surprising. We do seem to have made some progress on the history articles compared to your original data, but apparently 14% of all knowledge is about TV, movies, bands, and games. Ah well. V-2 rocket
[edit]As evidenced by my comment on Talk:V-2 rocket, I have read the lead, hence there was no reason to repeat your advice. I am asking for date, and it turns out from sources available for me now (Astronautix, etc.), that neither exact date nor circumstances of 189 km launch are known. Such rocket is reported to may have been launched somewhere in the early 1944, according to few accounts. But once again - nothing is clear. If you are able to provide exact date and circumstances, you are welcome, with a verifiable reference, of course. Cmapm 17:12, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi. Is there any reason this pic is fair use? Have we assumed that the uploader is not from the Maryborough Swim Club? Regards, Blnguyen (bananabucket) 00:06, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
- To allow it as it was, we would have to assume that the uploader, who only contributed for one week in August 2006, was not only an official of the Maryborough Swim Club with authority to dispose of its copyrights but also the photographer of an image taken in 1956. The uploader had problems with the other image he uploaded and it is simplest to presume he had not thoroughly understood our upoading requirements. Rmhermen 00:30, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Redirect
[edit]I really don't want to be rude but I really don't agree about the changes you did to some of my articles. Just to put an example: why redirecting Pomacochas lagoon to the article Plain of Bagua?? Even though the lagoon is part of the plain of bagua, both are not the same place. If I broke it before, or I created a new article on that, it's because I do believe there is more information to put in them. When I put the lagoon as part of the Plain of Bagua article, I just put a brief summary of it, and I'm sure, anyone can improve (at least any Peruvian) it by adding some more relevant information on it in a deeper way. I really hope you understand my point, and if I'm wrong please let me know before reverting any of my articles because my students and I are working really hard on them. Thanks. --Evelyn Zuñiga 06:01, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, one more thing. I posted some of my reasons in the articles. Even if you think there's not enough information on them, please don't worry because my student and I haven't finished this project yet. Just give me (us) a little more time, then if you still think there's enough reasons for you to redirect or erase some data in them, let me know and we'll talk about it =). Thanks. --Evelyn Zuñiga 06:25, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- You did not post a mere summary of it. You repeatedly posted the exact same material in multiple locations or under multiple titles. It is enough trouble to edit this material once without having to make identical edits to the same material in multiple locations. Please work on making a few good articles, not large numbers of poor ones, recycling the same material. Rmhermen 16:39, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
Wow! I didn't not it caused you so much trouble. Well as I told you before, the articles are not finished yet, so try to be a little more patient with that. Thanks anyway for your answer and, I think just by being an administrator (or probably for being one) you should have a better actitud - Please just don't take it personally. Thanks. --Evelyn Zuñiga 17:06, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Edits to Kansas articles
[edit]I see you reverted several changes to various Kansas-related articles by a certain anon, something that I was tempted to do, but I only did a few relating to my particular subject area. I previously had to undo a bit of a mess at Oregon Trail created by that user. Anyway, I'm curious if there is anything that can be done about these bizarre (at best) edits, since they are not quite vandalism? I have a feeling this is going to be a continuing problem. Katr67 19:03, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
- This is a continuing problem. This person also edit under User:RJBurkhart, User:RJBurkhart3 and several anonymous id's. He occasionally makes good edits but often only idiosyncratic ones and does not seem to be willing to change his editing behavior. Rmhermen 19:14, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
- Yep, I figured out the other IDs. I was trying to be subtle. :) So what is the first step in taking care of the problem? Vandal warnings don't quite fit the bill in this case, I'm thinking. Katr67 19:26, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
Bea Alonzo page
[edit]Excuse me. But whey did you delete the Bea Alonzo page? Doberdog 00:33, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
- I deleted that page on February 4 after it was tagged for speedy deletion by Phaedriel. At that time it content was:
"== Headline text ==BEA ALONZO Bold text Bea Alonzo OR Phylbert Angellie Fagestrom Ranollo born in October 17, 1987 daughter of Mary Ann and Armando Carlos (biological dad). Bea was frist discovered in a beauty pageant her first show was k2bu with shaina magdayao and etc... the ratings were got high. And it continues her career in kay taggal kang hinintay with the handsome john lloyd cruz, followed by it might be you and ikaw ang lahat sa aki" Rmhermen 00:41, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
Obviously, the page was vandalized because the above content is not how the Bea Alonzo article was should look like. Please chack the logs to see if it can be reverted to its original format. Thank you. Doberdog 00:45, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
- That deletion was back in February. The article is currently fine. What are you seeing that needs reverting? Perhaps you just need to clear your cache - I can't see anything wrong with the page. Rmhermen 00:48, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
The article exists as of yesterday but now it's gone. Doberdog 00:52, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
Yeah. Clearing the cache did the trick. Thanks, man. Sorry I panicked. Doberdog 00:55, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
Size of wels catfish
[edit]I´ve seen you have written that wels catfish grow to 4m and in the Volga and Danubia, but I can confirm you that this are all big fish stories without any prooves, although it can be read in several book(and you can also read many other false dates, for example that great white sharks reach a size of 12m...). I have taken really much research in the last years about the maximum size of wels catfish and other large fish, many comparisons and calculations with known record specimens and known growth rates. The result was that it is nearly impossible for a wels catfish to grow to a size of 4m, and there are in fact really no prooves that such big specimens ever existed. Please don´t re-alter it again. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 62.224.78.175 (talk • contribs) 15:54, 3 December 2006 (UTC).

- Another Featured list candidate, List of Canadian Leaders of the Opposition just had one added as a result. If the colors don't harm readability too much there is an easier way to do this - and, perhaps for this article, a horizontal one would work. Let me see if I can find an example of that. Did you deliberately remove my changes to Timeline of first orbital launches by nationality or was it an edit conflict? If it was deliberate, a comment on my Talk page or even a edit summary would have been nice. --Icd 05:53, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
- I was still in the process of verifying facts for the note now added to that article. Rmhermen 05:59, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
- Timeline of first orbital launches by nationality is an expansion of Satellite#Launch capable countries. I change the former so it agreed with the latter. Your changes mean the two pages now directly contradict with each other. Please fix one or the other. (NB I didn't add Australia to the former, only fixed the year.) I also disagree with your assertion that it used "donated U.S. Redstone rocket and infrastructure, not their own technology." The satellite was Australian, and the launch infrastructure was Australian. The Redstone was a US design, but it was a leftover from project SPARTA, a joint US/UK/Australian research project. Can I also point you to this web page: http://www.astronautix.com/lvs/sparta.htm which clearly lists the launcher of being of the Redstone type, but the country being Australia. From what I can gather I think that there is a consensus on the available materials that Australia was indeed the fourth country to launch a satellite, and Satellite agrees with me. "Australia's launch project may have involved some input from the United Kingdom, although they are still considered an independent launch nation (see Australian Space Research Institute.)" —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Icd (talk • contribs) 10:02, 6 December 2006 (UTC).
- No this is not an expansion of a section in Satellite - it is a featured list with clear inclusion criteria which Australia fails. Australia did not "sen[d] objects into orbit using their own launch systems" - they used American rockets and the Woomera facility was constructed by the Australians - with the British and had been used for years by the Americans to launch Redstones before they left and gave the last outdated rocket to the Australians. "U.S. Department of Defense donated the modified Redstone vehicle and the services of the TRW vehicle preparation team, while the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) supplied global tracking and data acquisition services. Facilities of the Joint Australia/United Kingdom Weapon Testing Project supported the launch activities."[4] There is certainly no consensus that Australia was the fourth country to develop native launch capabilities. Rmhermen 18:13, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
- Fair enough - I have made one small change to Timeline of first orbital launches by nationality. --Icd 22:13, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
- Also, thank you for getting those two pages cleaned up and consistent! --Icd 22:40, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Hmmm, but that little cryptic piece of information is left out. Why? See my comments. Please redraft with introduction to mitochondrial DNA and matrilineal descent. KP Botany 23:23, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hardly cryptic as the topic is Mitochondrial Eve, not genetic eve. Rmhermen 23:24, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
- "The one statement you have quoted is correct as it stands - it is about ordinary DNA, not mitochondrial DNA and so might be made clearer but is not incorrect. Rmhermen 23:07, 29 December 2006 (UTC)"
- Hmmm, so, although that statement was about ordinary DNA, not mitochondrial DNA, it should not be cryptic that I didn't understand it was about nuclear DNA, not mitochondrial DNA because "the topic is Mitochondrial Eve, not genetic eve." I don't even know what that means. The statement stands because it is about "ordinary DNA, not mitochondrial," but that's not cryptic, because the article is about "Mitochondrial Eve, not genetic eve?" What? KP Botany 23:37, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
- I think that if you can't even keep straight what you are talking about, and you contributed to the article, it might be that the article is difficult for someone who didn't write it to understand, also. KP Botany 23:39, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
- "The one statement you have quoted is correct as it stands - it is about ordinary DNA, not mitochondrial DNA and so might be made clearer but is not incorrect. Rmhermen 23:07, 29 December 2006 (UTC)"
- I don't believe that I did write any substantial portion of the article nor do I have any trouble understanding it. You, though, seem to lack an understanding of DNA and expect the wrong article to explain it, instead of following the links. Rmhermen 23:43, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
- No, it's because I know you're not talking about mitochondrial DNA, but that that fact is omitted, and because the article is about mitochondrial DNA, that I know the article is contradictory and incorrect. If it's an article about mitochondrial DNA, and all of a sudden you start talking about nuclear DNA, you must explicitly state this. Same with botany articles, which switch among the various genomes all of the time in phylogenetic systematics. Many articles are solely about chloroplast DNA. When the author switches to discussing the nuclear DNA, no matter how obvious it is, the author explicitly announces this change. This is pretty basic, it's courteous to the audience, and it makes certain their is no uncertainty. It's not just with DNA, when talking about one thing, then moving onto another in the text, an editor alerts the reader somehow, doesn't just expect him to say, okay, well all talk about DNA is about mitochondrial so far, but an unannounced switch to nuclear genome has just occured. Again, I point out the obvious, that you mixed up which you were talking about between here and the talk page, it's easy to do. KP Botany 00:09, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Daniel Farmer, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. [edit]You readded comments from two sources claiming that the elections were unfair. Given that I would count radio free europe as a anti-communist propaganda organisation and a relic from the cold war I think it is not a good source - at all. I have a similar feeling about both. I removed both references previously and left a message on the talk page. I will do so again now.
Personally I think such things belittle both wikipedia and world affairs harking back to the days of The Great Game - surely we've moved past that. It is simply put propaganda.
I do not find inclusion of positive comments to be a balance to the statements - but that would be one solution.
Quoting two organisations who are uniformly negative about any country not closely allied to the UK/USA is not the way to go for neutrality.

I misspoke on the "growing season". However, for the starch component of corn, the "grainfilling period" is about 51 days. For the cellulose component (totally dried stalk and leaves) -- Over the long growing season you mention, the cellulose production varies from near zero to some peak and then declines. I have no references on the details of cellulose production by corn over the "growing season", do you ? Your typo - Photovoltaic devices convert from 5% to 30% (0.05 to 0.30) of the incident energy, not "0.07%". Of course, from this must be subtracted the "area overhead" of the physical facilities, just as one must for agricultural crops. Photovoltaics (PVs), too, suffer a bit from the effects of a sort of "growing season", related to the effects of ambient and device temperatures, but conversion is only somewhat degraded and never ends or even comes close to ending over the year. Cost has not been discussed for either corn or PVs-- but corn production efficiency has pretty much topped out, where there is still enormous room for improvement in photovoltaics. Thus raising corn can be viewed as an unnecessary, unproductive and costly step for converting the energy of sunfall to a more convenient form of energy. Agricultural operations are for growing food, soon not all of that or even fiber and certainly not fuel. Eventually, not even basic products like starch and cellulose will be found "on the farm" -- artificial photosynthesis or another bulk industrialized solar-powered process will assume that role, driven in part by water scarcity. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.220.59.188 (talk) 15:20, 16 February 2007 (UTC).

Why is it "Discussion" in the article and "Talk" on the ground ??
- Once upon a time, it used to be talk. Then it got "formalized". Rmhermen 14:50, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Anishinaabemowin language Userbox
[edit]Aaniin, with great effort from User:Miskwito, we now have the oj series of Anishinaabemowin language userboxes. On the WP:IPNA/Nish page, we have a matrix of the possible categories for the oj series and the major dialect groupings. You can now add to your Userpage one of the oj userboxes that are available or you can help create a userbox for the dialect of your interest. Please see Wikipedia_talk:Babel#Ojibwe_language_userboxes for the full discussion. Miigwech. CJLippert 23:30, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
World Heritage template
[edit]Hi! I created a template for World Heritage Sites: {{Infobox World Heritage Site}}. Since many of the protected areas are also recognized as World Heritage Sites, I thought that it will be appropriate to forward this template here, and hopefully, for the community to help improve the template. Someone mentioned that the footnotes are unclear (i.e. why the need to emphasize "official" there). It's because the official name (or the name as inscribed on the List) is different from what we usually know. And the Region also has footnote to tackle specifically the classification of those regions which may fall ambiguously between two continents (e.g. those in Russia, Turkey, Cyprus, etc.). In addition, I think that the info provided in the template is much like a jargon for most readers since it box is more of use for internal references in the World Heritage program. I hope that the community will help improve the template and make it more relevant to the readers of wikipedia in general. Thanks. Joey80 13:51, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) - Disposal Operations
[edit]What's the basis for your statement regarding the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant "Disposal operations are expected to continue until 2070..."? You added that statement on 8 Dec 2006, but I'm unaware of a source stating such an extended operational date. Thanks! --Wippingboy 19:30, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
Hi Rmhermen. I noticed that recently, the corn page was eliminated and turned into a redirect for maize. Given that there seemed to be an extremely large amount of dicussion (discussion that resulted in non-consensus) for such an action on the maize talk page, and that all corn is not maize, was this a correct thing to do? Unspecified source for Image:Carsons, Pirie, Scott & Co. Building.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Carsons, Pirie, Scott & Co. Building.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 06:58, 12 April 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kjetil r 06:58, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
Capital punishment reference tags
[edit]The problem was that there were extra /
s placed at the end of the initial naming of the references meaning that the actual reference text was ignored. I fixed it for 11 and 13, but 12 doesn't actually have any reference text to display. It probably was at some point and was later deleted. If you can find it in the history then you can put it back in using 11 and 13 as templates.—WAvegetarian (talk) 05:37, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
Back in 2004[6] you added a few sentences to Ghailani's bio, including the following: "At some time in Pakistan or Afghanistan, he married an Uzbek and had children. Many Uzbek separatists moved into Pakistan and the woman is thought to be from that group." But - Uzbekistan has been independent since 1991, so who are these Uzbek "separatists"? I think you must have meant Islamists, terrorists, extremists (I think that is what they are called in Uzbekistan itself), or some other word - but rather than guess and modify, I thought I would first bring it to your attention. Mporter 08:00, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- Separatists could still be correct if they are trying to break off a section of that country as in Chechnya. I don't know and couldn't find the original source for all the stories on his capture. I changed it to Islamists. Rmhermen 13:32, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- Pravda[7] does refer to "Uzbek separatists" (and "Uzbek fundamentalists") in an article from just before 9/11, but I think it must be an idiomatic error. If anything, they are "unionists" since they wanted an Islamic Turkestan of which Uzbekistan would just be one part. Mporter 02:20, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
- I did notice that Pravda article and also discounted it. Thanks. Rmhermen 02:22, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
