Becks' Nationality[edit]

Did you see my comment on Talk:David Beckham? Nationality isn't as clear-cut as you think; my nationality is both British and English. An interesting and insightful read on this subject is English_people, specifically English_people#The_English_as_a_nation, which itself validates "English Nationality". The Nationality article also states: Nationality can also mean membership in a cultural/historical group related to political or national identity, even if it currently lacks a formal state. This meaning is said by some authorities to cover many groups, including Kurds, Basques, Catalans, the Welsh, Scots, Palestinians, Tamils, and many others. The fact that he also pays for an England National Football Team shows that "English" Nationality does indeed exist, otherwise there would be a "Great Britain" Team (which there is in Rugby League but not Rugby Union). It is a hazy line, but there is most definately English Nationality, and I think this more accurately describes Becks, given he plays for England. Give the Nationality and English_people articles a read. -Toon05 22:06, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
