Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, RiverGibbsProductions, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Draft:River Gibbs, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! —  crh 23  (Talk) 09:11, 1 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "RiverGibbsProductions", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are invited to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you personally, such as "Jack Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, or website, regardless of your username. Moreover, I recommend that you read our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please create a new account or request a change of username, by completing this form, that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. Ian.thomson (talk) 04:42, 1 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

Hi, I've been informed that my account was blocked for two reasons: One, my username reflects a business, and two, I was "self promoting." I am new to Wikipedia, and didn't understand these policies. I already requested a change in username prior to being blocked. Also, the article I was writing, was about my former employer who I am no longer affiliated with, and have a completely unbiased stance on. I would appreciate understanding. I am new to this as of yesterday, and am surprised at the complexity of it all. I intend to contribute within the guidelines. Decline reason:

You might have requested a name change in the wrong place? Certainly I do not see it. To request a change use {{unblock-un}}. Your chosen name should not contain the name of your former (or indeed present) employer. Also, please note the comment below regarding WP:COI.--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 14:41, 1 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Where/how did you request a name change? There doesn't appear to be any such action by this account. Did you do so under another account?
And if you are a former employee of River Gibbs Productions (and not River Gibbs), then it's still inappropriate for you to make an article about River Gibbs per WP:COI. There's also the problem of why you would take the username RiverGibbsProductions if you don't actually work for them. Ian.thomson (talk) 14:30, 1 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Account renamed

[edit]

I have renamed your account as requested. However, I'm leaving it to Orangemike, Anthony Bradbury or Ian.thomson to handle the unblock. You should first review our conflict of interest guideline and understand that promotional editing is not acceptable, regardless of your username. Additionally if you are being paid to edit on behalf of your organization, you must disclose this. These policies and guidelines are in place not because we don't want you to edit, but rather to protect the integrity of the encyclopedia and to ensure neutrality in authoring content. Thanks for your understanding! MusikAnimal talk 13:58, 11 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
