Re:Oxyrhynchus hymn
[edit]Hello Rigadoun. I appreciated the comment on the edit for the "Oxyrhynchus hymn," for I had not actually considered that the notation itself doesn't necessarily imply that music accompanied such in Christian worship. I have thus revised my previous edit and welcome your evaluation of such. I am totally new at this, so please bear with me. If I am going about responding to your comments in the wrong fashion, please inform me, since I could not see any easy way to reply to your comment. Thanks again. Karkfump 06:00, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
Hi Rigadoun. Thanks for your message - please accept my apologies for any horrors of bad coding or offences against wikiquette - I'm new to this particular form and not the most techno-savvy of people. However, I have quite a few print publications to my name in the fields of Indonesian performing arts, ethnomusicology and organology and hope to provide some valid improvements to various articles within my specialist field! The reason I altered the 'dalang' article was mainly because the text seemed to be describing a wayang golek dalang while the photo shows a wayang kulit dalang, who is sitting in front of something which is self-evidently not 'a wooden table with holes in'. I plan to add more to this article as time goes on - I studied puppetry in Yogyakarta and perform as a dhalang (the Javanese spelling) myself. I hope to add a brief biog on my 'own page' today. Best wishes and thanks for your help cleaning up my additions to your article. Tim Byard-Jones 10:09, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

language templates (problem, again)
[edit]Hello, and thank you for all your hard work on the needed language categories and templates. User:Badagnani has taken it upon himself to try and migrate all the templates we just worked on to his own, without any discussion. He has removed my delete tag from his {{Needkhmer}}, and is snide about _me_ joining some discussion at some project where they decided to do this. See Template talk:Khmer and Template talk:Needkhmer. I don't buy it, and I would ask you to weigh in at those and at Wikipedia:Templates for deletion/Log/2007 June 19. Chris 07:21, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
My first original article
[edit]Hi Rigadoun. I've finally moved from twiddling with existing articles to starting one of my own. Check out sulukan and tell me what you think. Too clunky? Too academic? Insufficiently user-friendly? I'm trying to learn how to do this thing properly and I greatly appreciate the help you've given me so far. Tim Byard-Jones 15:10, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
Tagging
[edit]Hi I have an aversion to the red discussion tag at the top of pages :) so have followed your recent lists created. I thought the template for the indonesian project was designed to respond to list-yes into a not assessed mode - but appears not, sigh SatuSuro 00:09, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
- Most projects have lists as unassessable and the coding in their project headers allows for list=yes to show up as equivalent to not assessable. Hope that explains SatuSuro 09:39, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
Re:Frederick Augustus Hely
[edit]I had no idea that the usage of the template could cause so much trouble, and i assure the article was not 'generated' in any way. I was simply using the template because it was much shorter than writing out the full name. It is as simple and as complicated as that. Would you like me to replace the temps, or have you already done it? -- Anonymous DissidentTalk -- (dated 20:25, 21 June 2007 UTC)
- You are right, in reflection - it does become Hely. I do remember though, getting quite tired of typing Hely to the point where it sounded wrong, so I opted for a change. I'll go through and change it now. -- Anonymous DissidentTalk -- (dated 20:34, 21 June 2007 UTC)

Rieger
[edit]Could you please look at my comment here: Wikipedia:Main_Page/Errors#Rieger I don't know if you have the power to change how this fact appears on the main page. From the history I think it was you who must have altered this comment - apologies if not. Clavecin 18:45, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
- Your suggestion:
- ...that the Austro-Hungarian organ-building firm Gebrüder Rieger, in Czechoslovakia after World War I, was nationalized by the Czech government after World War II and now operates as Rieger-Kloss?
- That would probably do, but it still ignores the fact that Rieger Orgelbau are also successors of the original company - the double succession point was what I was emphasizing in the original hook. But I'm sure someone who monitors that page will sort it out one way or another. Clavecin 19:02, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

Hello, I am contacting you because you participated in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Francesco Dionigi, which resulted in the deletion of Francesco Dionigi. - OK, it's now 228 characters and it shouldn't be more than 200. (Sorry, I removed the content on T:TDYK that discussed the hook as it was moved to the Next update, but you can see it in the history - I used an edit summary that should help you find it. Rigadoun (talk) 16:44, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
- Also, you may want to avoid mentioning "today" etc. as some editors discourage DYK elements that sound too current to keep the section from being a "runner-up In the News". I saw a hook removed from the main page for that once. Rigadoun (talk) 16:46, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
- Under 200 you can remove today, but pleases include the pic!!!!??? (p.s. is it were cast or were casted)

Voice crossing
[edit]Great new article! Glad to see it. I'll see if I can find some musical examples to help with it. -- Myke Cuthbert (talk) 18:18, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
- In 20th c. music, esp. atonal, the area of voice-leading in general is a huge research topic. I know there are some Kaija Saariaho works in which a large scale voice crossing is the main formal element in the piece. There's also the crossing aspect of Stockhausen's Kreuzspiel where individual pitch classes move among octaves. I think these uses might be outliers in a larger atonal framework which deemphasizes the importance of voice crossing because inversions of pitch structures are considered equivalent to the prime version.
- There's some really good work coming out, probably later this year, on voice crossing in the music of Guillaume de Machaut. As soon as it's citable, I'll add it.
Here are some examples I already have from 14th and early 15th century music:
Shows large-scale voice crossing at the bar line. This is an example of a Stimmtausch work, where the voices cross and then exchange roles.
An example of cantus planus binatim--added voice to Gregorian chant. probably late 14th century. A single note of voice crossing.
Just made this one -- I think it does a pretty good job illustrating the subject. :) The caption should note that if the lower voice leapt to a B, it would not be overlap. (I'm uploading a slightly darker version now) -- Myke Cuthbert (talk) 19:34, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry about not getting back to you on my talk page: RL (or the lack of sustained progress in real live projects) has been interfering. I'll try to find a good Voice Exchange image at some point. I've engraved some Schenker graphs at various points in my life which I could release except that they are all either reengravings of copyrighted analyses or my own original analyses, which either may be wrong by Schenkerian standards (I'm not an expert on the topic) or will be called unpublished original research by someone else. So they're not set to go.
- The Parma example is of unknown date--I've ventured a guess in print of ca. 1425, but eh, who knows. First half of the fifteenth-century is probably the best mix of likely to be right while still likely to be useful. Best, Myke -- Myke Cuthbert (talk) 21:00, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Re: SPA bot idea
[edit]Sure thing! Just a note, though: though I support the idea of having the bot look through older articles as well, there are concerns that it will be place a high demand on the servers without significantly improving the usefulness of the bot-generated list. Perhaps you'd like to comment on it at the thread. Cheers, Black Falcon (Talk) 21:22, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
Templates
[edit]Ahah you have hit on an issue that hits most projects and their templates - the correct setting the parameters for assessable and non assessable items - most projects get it wrong. I decided on the item as a list - and put class=list - if a project template comes up with other things for a list - just leave it for the moment and dont worry about it - unless you are capable of fixing templates :( - I now know of four projects that have class=NA and class=cat issues for instance - enough to inspire trying to learn the innards and their workings - but the warnings about not tampering are very valid - I'll stay out for the moment and leave it to others to tamper :| - cheers SatuSuro 16:33, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
This tortuorus route
[edit]The wikiproject maintains - seems like a very torturous route - I thought the earlier list was sufficient. It seems to look like a lot of work when you see how many articles belong to the project.
- Another issue is Kanisius - hopelessly un-disambig - there are more than one in Indonesia - and this Jakarta one has a similar one in Yogya ( i used its library a lot in the past) clearly written by a non native speaker as well... I keep finding these non english speaker arts and wish I had much more time to copyedit! cheers SatuSuro 17:07, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
- I dont know where the misunderstanding came in that caused no reply - you were copying a bit of text with bad spelling - and I am really questioning these work that is going to have to go into the sub pages as to the amount of time compared to the earlier list. The kanisius issue was a red herring - I shall deal with that SatuSuro 00:46, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- just saw you on - and Im about to go off - hope the bits i did to the sub pages was ok - would appreciate any ideas as to anything other than a very time consuming process for finding arts to place in these sub pages - cheers im off! SatuSuro 15:49, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. When using certain templates on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:uw-test1}} instead of {{uw-test1}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template. Thank you. ~ Wikihermit 00:52, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Malay/Indonesian/Tagalog merge
[edit]It would seem no one has taken you up in the merge issue - its really weird the two exist in parallel - but I would suggest that malay/indonesian one does have in effect a world of its own - and that the tagalog one is a red herring and too large - but that has heaps of other issues as well to deal with. As no one seems to have responded - would you be willing to keep it longer (the merge tag) - or be prepared to consider other ways of resolving the parallel behemoths? DYK (Sam Lichtenhein)
[edit]I didn't fully understand your request; do you want a new hook or what? My first source that I found here states that he "had more trouble with fires that can reasonably be attributed to bad luck." Or, do you want a hook which relates more to ice hockey like "Lichtenhein was essential in changing ice hockey from a seven-man to a six-man game?" or similar phrasing of this? Even as an admin, this is my first time at DYK, so I'm curious as to how I can improve the article and/or the hook for it to be included. Thanks! --Evilclown93 12:04, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Logo Universitas Gadjah Mada.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Logo Universitas Gadjah Mada.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Esrever 15:25, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Choir (city)
[edit]Hi Rigadoun. You are off to such a great start on the article Choir (city) that it may qualify to appear on Wikipedia's Main Page under the Did you know... section. The Main Page gets about 4,000,000 hits per day and appearing on the Main Page may help bring publicity and assistance to the article. However, there is a five day from article creation window for Did you know... nominations. Before five days pass from the date the article was created and if you haven't already done so, please consider nominating the article to appear on the Main Page by posting a nomination at Did you know suggestions. If you do nominate the article for DYK, please cross out the article name on the "Good" articles proposed by bot list. Also, don't forget to keep checking back at Did you know suggestions for comments regarding your nomination. Again, great job on the article. -- Jreferee (Talk) 14:09, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
