WikiProject categories
[edit]WikiProject categories such as Category:WikiProject Africa serve to organize the WikiProject pages. We do not place mainspace articles in WikiProject categories, but that's what you proposed when you listed articles such as Media in Africa or Music of Africa as belonging to Category:WikiAfrica. Besides, WikiAfrica seems redundant to WikiProject Africa - have you tried collaborating with the existing WikiProject instead of creating a new one? Huon (talk) 15:18, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

The article Food Security South Africa has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- This article appears to violate the WP:ORIGINAL policy.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Inks.LWC (talk) 09:51, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

WikiAfrica style
[edit]you did such a great job with the WikiAfrica project page that i needed to copy it on the Italian version! my compliments and thanks for the job! There is an issue to discuss though. the project wikiafrica wants to produce 30.000 articles by 2012: the problem is how to count them. you created a wikiafrica banner to add to the discussion page but personally I don't think it's the best solution. To me the best system is to count how many articles/images people and institution "decide" to produce/enrich to contribute to WikiAfrica. For example: lettera27 contributes with 1000 articles (in italian, english and french). lettera27 declarers the number and lettera27 counts them (lettera27 can use a specific banner which counts the articles in automatic; a banner for each linguistic version of wikipedia). i think this way the number is "more true" (because it's a declaration rather than counting articles which can be produced not necessary in the frame of wikiafrica). Some notes/questions
- Do you like this page: http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiAfrica/30.000?
- the idea is to show how many institutions are contributing to wikipedia. if you click on each institution (for example http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progetto:WikiAfrica/lettera27) you see the little box in which there is written the number of contributions. In the page there is the story of the collaboration (basically a case history of the institution and its relationship with wikipedia). i would like to link those institutions to GLAM (http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:GLAM/Projects); for this reason i used the same graphic design.
If you think it works, my idea is to do the same kind of page for each institutions which contributes to wikiafrica. I'll add as you suggested the category count.
- "Explore Africa" is really the title you want to use? i'm sure Livingston would love it but there are a quite nutritious group of intellectuals who would question this commercial approach (sic).
- I'll add the counter as you suggested by i noticed that your counter doesn't respond very quickly when you add the banner to an article. it is necessary to do something to reload it?
thanks for the great job. --Iopensa (talk) 09:23, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

Invitation: Let's Talk Diversity
[edit]Dear Riannedac,
my name is María, I am community Liaison for Learning and Evaluation team at Wikimedia Foundation. I reach out to you because I want to invite you to take part in a campaign we started some weeks ago, «Let's Talk Diversity». The aim of this campaign is to have users who have worked to bridge Wikimedia's diversity gaps contribute their learning stories. There are different ways to participate: by sharing a problem you faced when working, a solution, or write a Learning Pattern to address both a problem and a solution.
I know you were involved in WikiAfrica project, and for this reason, I thought it was a good idea to invite you to contribute. What struggles did you face trying to bridge the gaps on Wikipedia about Africa? What did you learn from initial problems? This is the kind of experiences we are trying to bring forward with Let's Talk Diversity Campaign.
Please, feel free to reach out to me on my talk page on Meta, or by answering here, as well.
Visit Let's Talk Diversity page.
Thanks in advance for your time and attention! Best, MCruz (WMF) (talk) 18:17, 6 March 2015 (UTC)
