Freedom of speech and profanity

Sometimes the question is posed whether Wikipedia allows freedom of speech regarding profanity. Our primary goal is to build an encyclopedia. Freedom of expression is valued, but only to the extent that it does not get in the way of that goal. Including information about offensive material is part of Wikipedia's encyclopedic mission; being offensive is not. We have many articles about profane and sexual subjects‍—‌prick, fuck, shit, fart, and so on. Although Wikipedia is not censored, if you were to put profanities on discussion pages, a quick ban might follow. This is especially true for usernames because these show up in many places where people do not want to be bothered by profanity. Repeated off-topic comments on article talk pages also might constitute a breach of policy.

Beksi

[edit]

Hi Rgyalu! About the Beksi article, I am currently still editing it. It is actually about silat martial arts of Indonesia, not music or ethnic group. When I'm finished, it'll be with references. Thanks anyway, XoXo (talk) 04:52, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'm done! Also removed the {{unr}} tag. Thanks, XoXo (talk) 07:03, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
XoXo Okay, great. You have done a great job. The unreferenced tag was to inform you it has no references. Now as you have added references you have done the right job. Rgyalu (talk) 14:02, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Account block

[edit]
DeltaQuad It is unfair to block someone on the base of guesses. The accounts to which you are linking me has no affinity with me. Those are possibly my friend's account. He uses my IP and computer as well because not everyone can afford a personal computer. But I don't know what he is doing or what he has done.

I am contributing to Wikipedia as a volunteer and there is no intention of abusing the account, and if I abuse the account anyone can block me anytime. But to block at this stage without any wrongdoing is unfair. Thank you. Rgyalu (talk) 04:39, 2 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, and thanks for leaving a message here with your thoughts and concerns. You can appeal your block by following the directions outlined in this guide. Because you've been blocked due to evidence and information that's only obtainable and viewable by checkusers, only they have the ability to review and process your request. Should your request be declined, your next and only option from there is to appeal your block by contacting the Arbitration Committee. If you have any questions, let us know here and we'll be happy to answer them. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:03, 2 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
