Invitation to public disputation
[edit]I would like to invite you to make a public disputation of the substance of my essay "What Wikipedia Is" on its talk page. I'm just glad it's getting some notice, since the ideas it contains are important and need to be publicly and openly discussed. The Chair
[edit]TPH has NAC'd the AfD you contributed to and moved the article to The Chair (Grand National) and established The Chair as a disamb. I have no problem with that but don't think the current name is quite right. If you're interested, please contribute to the discussion at Talk:The Chair (Grand National)#Rename. Thanks, Bigger digger (talk) 22:18, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

AfDs
[edit]Hi. As you just participated in discussions on a closely related topic (also a current AfD re a Jewish list), which may raise some of the same issues, I'm simply mentioning that the following are currently ongoing: AfDs re lists of Jewish Nobel laureates, entertainers, inventors, actors, cartoonists, and heavy metal musicians. Best.--Epeefleche (talk) 08:11, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

RFA?
[edit]G'day Reyk - I just saw you !vote on an RFA and thought to myself, why doesn't Reyk run? Fishing around your contribs I reckon you'd stand a very good chance, and we need some more admins at AfD right now because it's starting to get backlogged. If you're interested, I'd be happy to nom, co-nom or give you a strong early support. --Mkativerata (talk) 06:44, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
- That's very nice of you to say, but I think you are greatly overestimating my chances of success- particularly if I were to say I wanted to close AfDs, because I am a fair bit stricter on things like WP:V and WP:OR than many would like. That tends to breed a bit of resentment and questions over whether I could gauge consensus in light of policy rather than substituting my own opinion. I would like to think I could and would, but concerns like that wouldn't be totally unfair. Besides, I haven't seriously considered running for RFA before, and would need to really study policy hard and in depth. Particularly areas that I have not been involved in, like fair use in images, etc. So I'm afraid I will have to politely turn down your generous offer.
- Still, since you apparently think I am up to it, perhaps I do need to think about running at some point in the future. I'll have a closer look at admin-related areas and see if there's anything that needs doing which I feel I can contribute positively in and have an inclination for. Maybe we can revisit this in three months or so?
- Again, thanks for your totally unexpected confidence in me. Regards, Reyk YO! 07:30, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
- No worries, although I doubt I'm overestimating your chances. With FAs, GAs, lots of article creations and years of experience you'd have a substantial body of support already locked in. And that article work should offset some of the deletionism concerns (the deletionism was the only thing I could see that might attract opposes). But yes, I understand you wanting to wait until you feel you're ready. RfA is certainly a tough week. Let me know if you feel you're ready to go and would like a nom. --Mkativerata (talk) 18:55, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

JK Blog links
[edit]Can you please revisit Sorting algorithm talk? I would like to reach a consensus on inclusion. I know you had issues running them before, can you clarify if that was with a full or reduced set and if you believe the link applicable for general inclusion. I have stated my reasons aptly there, but to summarize I believe that it should be included for reasons of accessibility, not being dependent on any plugins or special features, and an interactive demonstration of many popular sorting algorithms. Thanks. Baltar, Gaius (talk) 02:56, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
