Isn't Wiki supposed to be a giant repository of info? Certainly the author of numerous psychology texts and a leader of the field for at least a generation should be noted, if for nothing else than being the spouse of a us senator...however poorly I've written it.Rex495 05:31, 31 October 2007 (UTC)rex495

[edit]Houston jewelry, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. This page documents the family & economic history during the earliest periods of the state of Texas and Houston. The Jewelers of America, JA have asked Houston Jewelry to join the JA 100 Club in the class of 2007 which includes retail stores that have been in business for over 100 years. http://www.jewelers.org/membership/JA100club.html. What other documentation is needed, we do have boxes and boxes of papers in our vault to document this history. As for the history of retailing, the development and later disolving of the catalog showroom industry is clearly reflected in this story, which should be of use to any student of retailing history. Unfortunately the trade magazines that wrote many stories on the history of the company are now extinct, and never made it to the web age. However here is a recent link to a story http://66.201.106.163/portal_FullMazalUbracha.asp?id=25332 I freely admit my writing style is verbose, and conversational, and I welcome edit This editor would like to see it fixed and stay. - You might want to make sure that you are familiar with the conflict of interest guidelines, as your comments make it appear that you are closely connected to the subject of the article in question. (Not meaning to imply you've violated them, but if the article survives AFD it could be useful.) Karanacs 18:10, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
- I've found similar wiki articles on Brendles, Witmark, & Service Merchandice, all of which apparently survive the editing process, so why does the only verified survivor of the catalog showroom industry not merit inclusion. There numerous articles about the company, easily findable on google, such as: http://jck.polygon.net/archives/1999/06/jc06-237.html "Can Service Merchandice Survive?" http://www.chron.com/CDA/archives/archive.mpl?id=1993_1172510 "A Gem of A Comeback". While I clear acknowledge that my prose is poor and cluttered and should be edited, the information is relevant. Rex495 (talk) 06:35, 23 November 2007 (UTC)rex495
Thanks for your note. And thanks for contributing to Wikipedia. Wikipedia has encyclopedic guidelines for articles about businesses. Please read WP:CORP to review those. Sources for articles must be verfiable. Please read WP:V for more info. I see no one laid a welcome on you. That's the big blue box you see now 'cause i'm laying one on you now. There's a link to the Manual of Style amongst the links that will help you make the article more concise and more encyclopedic. Hope this helps. Cheers, :) Dlohcierekim 18:56, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

- Just because other not notables have articles does not make an Houston Jewelry notable. If you have information that supports a claim of meeting notability or verifiability requirements, please appeal the deletion at deletion review.
- Did you spell Brendles correctly? I don't see that article. The Witmark article says the company had a 34% share of the market. That sounds like a company that meets the notability guideline for companies. Service Merchandise "was the nation's top catalog-showroom retailer." That sounds like meeting WP:CORP to me.
- As I recall, Houston Jewelry was a local Texas retailer. Although longlived, it was never nationally know as a household name, as was Service Merchandise. The links you provided seem to me to support a claim of local notability. A single write up mentioning Houston Jeweleres and Service Merchandise together does not necessarily amount to significant media coverage. The other article says it is "A local institution."
- The quality of your prose is not a factor nor should it be. Writing quality is not a factor in determining whether or not an article should be included on Wikipedia. Generally, the discussion ceters on the subject's notability and the verifiability of the sources. Sorry I could not be more helpful. I will try to take another look at the issue next week, but will be busy with my job until Tuesday. The closing admin was User:Haemo and you can leave him a message at User talk:Haemo. Please note that I am not an admin. For more information on the deletion process, click User:Dlohcierekim/deletion. Cheers, :) Dlohcierekim 16:10, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Houston Jewelry & Distributing Company, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://knol.google.com/k/google/houston-jewelry/jjmq7rcc2t02/2. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.)
This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. Speedy deletion nomination of Houston Jewelry & Distributing Company
[edit]A tag has been placed on Houston Jewelry & Distributing Company requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
