The article Mack Brown Curse has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Insufficient evidence of notability as a popular idea; see also discussion at [1]
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
Again, feel free to ask me for help or further explanation! Melchoir (talk) 00:32, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
- I didn't propose the deletion for any stylistic reason, such as how external links are presented. I proposed it because the topic doesn't appear to meet Wikipedia:Notability, in that it hasn't received significant coverage in reliable sources. I've searched for additional sources beyond the Daily Texan and found none. If you know of other sources, please add them to the article; otherwise I'll go to the next step of the deletion process. Thanks, Melchoir (talk) 01:10, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
Melchoir, how do I communicate with you concerning making changes and adding coverage citations (such as ESPN)?
- Wherever you want -- here, Talk:Mack Brown Curse, or User talk:Melchoir, or obviously you can just edit Mack Brown Curse directly. Melchoir (talk) 01:24, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
It's not letting me add to the discussion page on the Curse entry :^( very frustrating but I never claimed to be a Wiki-SME. I've read the expectations of Wikipedia:Notability and will have the ESPN entry citation up within 24 hours (I'm in the Army and their website is blocked from where I work, I have to do it when off duty, weird that they let me access Wiki while at work but not sports). But I do want to ask; even if I post a link to an ESPN reporting affiliate concerning the subject matter, would that meet your definition of what is expected?
- That's... really odd! Talk:Mack Brown Curse hasn't been protected and you haven't been blocked. Anyway, I can wait a day. To be honest, a single additional source would make two, which is really borderline. I'm usually a defender of borderline-notability topics, and I'm pretty good at finding sources if I may say so. My point is, when I'm the one proposing deletion, that's a bad sign. But I could be surprised. And if I'm not convinced, we could send it to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion anyway and let community consensus sort it out. Melchoir (talk) 01:53, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
I appreciate that :^) I genuinely feel that the topic is a well known source of discussion among CFB fans, not just UT, and worthy of an entry. If I could ask, what can I do to firm up the entry in order in meet your comfort level? Reading the Notables requirements is pretty intimidating, especially when it comes to interpretation of what my entry needs to meet expectations. If you could provide specific hints at what you'll look for I would really appreciate it!
- Okay, basically try for more sources at least as reputable as the Daily Texan, which has an editorial staff and is therefore much better than a blog. (i.e. barkingcarnival.com doesn't help) Obviously professional publications are far better.
- The sources should actually refer to the curse as a "curse", preferably as "the Mack Brown Curse". The phrase "the curse of coach February" is close but not quite there; the poetic wording suggests that the author is inventing a new concept rather than referring to an existing popular idea.
- Sources that merely describe the misfortunes of a given player don't help, because it then requires original research (see WP:NOR) for us to claim that the player is popularly thought of as having fallen victim to a curse. A source should explicitly tie the player to the curse; a story like [2] that doesn't even mention UT should be used only to fill in details, not to justify an entry.

- ...You there? Melchoir (talk) 09:06, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
Stuck at work - the shootings at Fort Hood have caused a panic across the Army. I've saved the text of the entry. Delete it for now and when I have time to add the additional references I will resubmit. Sorry this is taking so long but I have to focus on Army needs right now.
- Of course! Well, barring any intervention, the article will probably be deleted in seven days by an admin (other than myself). If you have something to add after that, it would be best to consult that admin, or me, first. Melchoir (talk) 18:51, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
