Hello, *Duane. I've read what you wrote on your usr page. You may like to consider doing what I have done, which is creating a separate email address just for Wikipedia, that you don't use for anything else. JBW (talk) 10:05, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, JBW. That is a good idea. I'll set one up. I've taken the password out of Norton in case there is a repeat but, yes, an email could be useful. Thank you very much. ReturnDuane (talk) 10:09, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome!

Hey, Sadads, that's very kind. I love a cup of tea, especially first thing in the morning! I probably won't be able to spend much time on here as things are hectic in my real world. But, still, I'll see how it goes. Thank you very much and best wishes. Beir bua! Duane) 12:41, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

User page for your old account

[edit]

Hello, it's me again. I see that edit filters have prevented you from creating a user page for your old account. I don't know how much information you were given by the system when that happened, but there are 2 filters involved. One of them blocks accounts which are not yet confirmed from creating user pages for other accounts. The other one operates until an account has 100 edits, but I think that it just logs attempts to edit other editors' user pages, with a view to reporting to administrators if further actions are logged. If I'm right about that, you should be able to create the page once you are confirmed. As you may know, account confirmation is usually done automatically after four days and ten edits, but I have confirmed your new account now, so you may like to try creating the user page again. JBW (talk) 12:55, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've had another look as the second edit filter, and it looks as though I was wrong, and it will prevent you from creating the page. If you try again and it still doesn't work you should be able to do it once you've done 100 edits. Alternatively, if you don't want to wait that long, create the page under a temporary username, such as User:ReturnDuane/EnterDuane, and I will move it for you. It's up to you whether you think it's worth bothering to do it. JBW (talk) 13:02, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, JBW. Sorry for not replying sooner.
It works! I suppose the old account could be closed unless there's a need to retain its contributions history?
I created a WP-only email and that's been confirmed in my preferences.
Thank you very much for all your help. You've been great. Beir bua! ReturnDuane (talk) 08:43, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There's no way of deleting an account, but some editors in your situation like to have their old account blocked from editing, in case of anyone hacking into it or getting the password to it. I don't think that's really a significant risk except in the case of administrators' accounts, but I can do it if you would like me to. JBW (talk) 15:09, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's okay, JBW. As you say, the risk is minimal so I'm happy to leave it alone. Thanks again for all your help. Beir bua! ReturnDuane (talk) 15:19, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
