Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Retroscribe1. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. -- ferret (talk) 01:34, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
Multiple accounts and conflicts of interest (COI)
[edit]Hi Retroscribe1. I've noticed your editing on my watchlist as you add sources to various video game articles. These sources are always welcome, but I noticed there seems to be a pattern of focusing on particular authors and sites they edited on. This gives the appearance that you may have a conflict of interest with that author, or otherwise being paid to add links related to them. This is against Wikipedia guidelines. This also wasn't the first time I noticed this behavior. You appear to have another account that you stopped editing with at the end of January, after which you switched to this account. Would you please explain your editing and the previous account? You can read our policy about multiple account abuse at WP:SOCK. -- ferret (talk) 01:36, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi Ferret, thanks for the note. I'm a fan but am not being paid by any author or site. If you want me to remove anything, I have no problem undoing any edits I made. Sincerely sorry. Also, I couldn't log into my other account so I made this new one. Please feel free to delete both. thank you.
