3RR and removal of sockpuppet tags

Hi. I notice that you have been monitoring the Hanuman Das, Danuman Has situation. Could you please advise me on the following question. The 3RR rule generally does not apply to edits to ones own user page. Does it apply to removal of sockpuppet/puppetmaster notices? The notes to the suspect state that the the notice should not be removed for 10 days. Thanks for the explanation. No, I wasn't objecting to your action. I was wondering what the rules were. I notice that Hanuman Das has declared that he will not use socks in the future, which inclines me to support his unblocking (or at least shortening the block). On the other hand, he is very reluctant to listen to others, which is likely to land him in trouble again. I think I would personally give him another chance, perhaps after a cooling off period. I know other editors would be angry at me for that, because an indefinite block would eliminate a long standing conflict. But I am in general of the opinion that if an editor is willing to work on improving his/her conduct, that he/she should get a second chance. Just my $.02. Thanks again for the response. Thanks for protecting User_talk:Danuman Has. I only intended to use it for a single edit as a joke. Seems some people have no sense of humor. Another user, as far as I know not an admin, who is in a content dispute with me removed db-user tags from both pages. He has engaged in both conflict of interest and harassment over this incident, which in no way called for such abuse. The sock made NO POLICY VIOLATIONS WHATSOVER. This whole thing is ridiculous! Please delete and lock both user and talk pages, and lock the account so nobody can use it. Thanks. —Hanuman Das 21:17, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of Interest

Your whole argument that you are creating an encyclopedia, so smaller, local, bands should not be included is a contradiction. According to Merriam Webster this is what an encyclopedia is.

All branches of knowledge insinuates that people from Valrico, Florida should be able to lookup bands, from their area, on this "encyclopedia". Maybe what your definition of an encyclopedia is more like a history book, where only "notable" things and events are included. I just find it hard to believe that you exclude information in an encyclopedia. Its suppose to have information on anything and everything. Reasons for Quitting

This is the "Wikipedia" reason I'm quitting. These fair use laws (even though I don't live in Florida), these complaints, these WP:____ which I haven't even heard about, these facts they've reverted even though they know it's true but it's unsourced even though there isn't any source of it yet on the internet). My immediate "BOO"s on my self-RfA really helped my stress now.
Now the real world. You see, the person behind Simply MP had been invading my privacy making fun of my userpage, and that was a little takedown. My mother has anger issues, my sister is a demon, my school has cruel teachers and even crueler bullies, etc. etc. etc.
Good friends, I say goodbye. I might still come back to chat, or edit my fav pages, but the number-two (can't forget Jimbo ;) ) user is not gonna do anything spectacular anymore.
Redvers, you may not remember me, but you uploaded an image for me, remember? I thank you for that, and that is why I'm giving u this message. ;)

Hi Redvers, You probably don't know me (or you probably do) but I like to help/welcome newcomers and as a result I have created my own little Help Desk for newcomers and anyone seeking help, and I have created a section titled "Still need help? ask another editor!" and have writen about what to do if you need help and I have mentioned about the {{helpme}} tag and other stuff, but I have also added the "Ask one of my recommended administrators" (I promise, you will understand this fully if you see the article) and I am in the process of picking admins to add to that list, and as you are priviledged you get to be the second admin on that list :-), but it would require helping anyone who wanted questions answering and helping newcomers, etc... So if you dont mind (If you dont want to be on the list, because your too busy, etc... I totally understand) becoming one of my recommended admins on my list? If you do, you can add your name straight on to the list, or be just telling me a simple "yes" and your name will be added.

You reserve the right to remove your name from the list at any time, for whatever reason. If you do remove your name, i will not quiz you for the reason you did.

Accessibility issues

Hello. Nice page! However, I've made some small changes to avoid some accessibility problems: non-decorative images should have an 'alt' text, namely section headers. Otherwise, blind users couldn't read that content (use a text only browser to see the problems).

Other important point is that those section headers should be <h2> instead of <h3>, but I haven't make this change myself because it will underline them. Do you know how to fix this with CSS? Thanks for making changes to my user pages to fit with the accessibility policy. This policy doesn't apply to user pages, so your effort, whilst appreciated, was probably a bit misdirected with a million and a half content pages to assess first. Nevertheless, I have noted the hard work you put in on the page.
The changes you made to the transcluded /Talkheader page I use broke the operation of the talk page itself and caused users wishing to edit the talk page confusion. They emailed me instead, which led to a delay in replying and further confusion. I reverted those changes as, on that basis, they seemed to reduced accessibility in the name of increasing it.
Whilst I don't claim ownership of my user pages - quite the reverse - it is estabilished Wikipedia etiquette to consult with a user before editing "their" pages unless removing serious policy violations. It is also established etiquette to sign your edits on talk pages as not doing so is a complete barrier to accessibility and is just plain annoying.

Hi, Redvers. Sorry if my changes annoyed you, I've made before accessibility improvement to other user pages like User:Fir0002, and people have never complained (quite the reverse, because now they understand how easy is to have an accessible user page and they make the proper maintenance). Also I'd like to ask you why do you think this policy doesn't apply to user pages. User pages are important when you want to communicate with another editor, and disabled wikipedians should be able to read them too. I'm interested in this point, because otherwise the policy should be changed to reflec this. Thank you very much.
More specifically about the accessibiliy changes —I assume the problematic changes are not those made to your user page but only to your talk page— you are right with respect to the edit button: it can be confusing, and thus reducing usability. That image need not be a header in this case, however it is a non-decorative image so it should have a non-void 'alt' text (in this case it can be simply "Welcome!"). Well, yes, I confess to being annoyed. On several levels. First, there are 1.5m pages of content on Wikipedia and someone chooses to make user pages accessible. I appreciate that you don't see the ridiculousness of this plan, but I would have to postulate that any plan that tackles something a minor as user pages before making the actual content accessible has a very big fundamental flaw when it comes to understanding what Wikipedia is for. Put it this way: if we ever ran out of server space, what namespace would we delete first? Second, I don't care whether your friend was happy with the changes you made or not. You could simply have asked me (and, for my user page, got a resounding "yes!") but you didn't. You just made the changes you wanted to make and then told me about them. Whilst I don't own my user page, asking me would have been common courtesy. Thirdly, if you're going to make inessential changes to inessential pages, please don't break them. You caused confusion for new users, you caused extra work for me and you generally made life harder for five people (ignoring anyone who didn't write to me because of the confusion you caused). You didn't even correct the errors - just walked off after failing to RV them when you knew you'd done a boo-boo.
So, yes, I am annoyed. And my typing this - something I put off - is making me more annoyed at you. That's not good. So I suggest we call a truce here and go our separate ways on this subject. You're a great editor and well respected for very good reasons, but I happen to believe you're misguided on this issue. And, if you're sensible, you should think the same of me, given the diatribe above! But I hope you'll avoid messing with mark-up you don't understand in pages that are inessential to the project and instead concentrate your obvious talents to those pages that those of us with disabilities would like improvements to be made.
And, in case it isn't clear, I'm really sorry for my tone in this post, but I was really really pissed off and it has taken time for it to drain away. Happy editing! REDVEЯS 20:42, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
