Request reason:

This account was created with my actual name to help resolve an issue where someone was impersonating me, who clearly was not me (and verified by another admin), and I wanted to both clarify that fact and resolve the 12 year old grudge another admin has. The only edits this account has made is to the userpage and to Wikipedia:Administrators_noticeboard#Bambenek_related_vandalism. A block in this case is a little heavy handed especially when it was to resolve things that happened 12 years ago. RealJohnBambenek (talk) 20:51, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

I can't tell whether you have an interest in editing Wikipedia and, if so, what you would edit if unblocked. You also haven't addressed either the cause for this block (beyond "I don't find it all that bad") or the cause of the original block. Until that's sorted out, I don't think unblocking you will improve the encyclopedia. Huon (talk) 00:23, 15 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

You tell us that you keep getting e-mails blaming you for activity which you are not responsible for. The only way that the trolls can e-mail you is via the e-mail address which you have given to Wikipedia. So change your address, which is between you and your service provider but which is quite straightforward, and do not tell Wikipedia what the new address is. Clarify things, please; are you requesting unblock, and if so on which account? --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 19:39, 11 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think you are missing my point. Trolls are coming on here, deleting a bunch of pages, DRVing my page and getting blocked (I had assumed it was various neonazis pissed off at me but an admin attributed it differently). Admins just say these stunts were me and point to WP:DEEPER. I then get emailed by others (not via wikipedia) wondering why I am causing problems here. Because they see this, they see you saying it is me, and it is NOT me. I then created this account for one sole purpose, to put to bed the nonsense that came and went on a decade ago and then I was blocked. What I want is for this account to be unblocked (user:jbamb was me but forgot password and have no idea what email is tied to that account, so I created a new one) so we can finally put the decade old conflict to bed that has maintained a life of its own long after I have been gone. I’d like for admins to stop attributing random trolls to me and using Wikipedia to memorialize that. (Ref: [1]). RealJohnBambenek (talk) 20:06, 11 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Please point me to a few examples of edits made by trolls which appear to be made by you. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 22:45, 11 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
User:American Canadian Expat In London 10404 was the most recent one, you can see my attempt to discuss that here Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Archive295#Bambenek related vandalism and references to earlier attempts. Immediately upon posting to WP:AN, I was blocked by User:JzG who also was one of those announcing it was me, perpetuating a conflict on this site long after I've left (I believe he also maintains the entry on WP:DEEPER). It's the latest one that had people e-mailing me (not via Wikipedia) asking about my involvement and having to explain there was none. RealJohnBambenek (talk) 22:56, 11 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I don't maintain anything on DEEPER, I have three edits to it, the last over five years ago. I created the page, but actually I removed the entry in 2012 after a few years with no requests: [2]. That may well have been the result of you emailing us, I was an email response volunteer for some years. Again, you let yourself down by asserting paranoia as fact. Guy (Help!) 00:05, 12 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I stand corrected, I have not read every revision to it. I may have emailed, I have no idea. Point remains, I have been gone for a decade and the only reason we are talking now is because YOU among others are labeling nuisance DrVs and edit nonsense as me. There is no us. This fight ended last decade. You won. You still win. And I am sorry for my part in it. And I am happy not having a bio. I’d rather people google me and actually find my consulting page so I can actually make money. I would just prefer it that when randos from the UK stir up crap on Wikipedia, I don’t have people emailing me wondering why you are saying its me. RealJohnBambenek (talk) 00:26, 12 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Here are the last five DRVs: Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2017 November 19; Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2016 May 21; Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2014 August 14; Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2013 October 24; Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2013 February 15. I don't think I missed any in that list. I don't think I participated in any of them. The last one in which I made any comment, as far as I can tell, was Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2009 February 2 - and reading your comments above, that would probably be one in which you actually were involved. User talk:Vividlucidity certainly sounds like you.
Aside: the second AfD resulted in all parties that supported it being indef. banned by an admin who has since had his powers revoked and was shown the door for extreme heavy-handedness. That is a bizarre statement. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/John Bambenek (2nd nomination) was closed by Sjakkalle, who is still an admin. The third AfD was closed by Ezeu, also still an admin. It looks as if at least some of your anger is prompted by a compete misremembering of events.
There are two obvious ways you might be getting email pings. One is via Wikipedia. That implies you still have access to the email address, so can do a password reset, gain access to the account and remove the email address in Preferences. The other is if you have an offsite search alerting you to mentions of your name on Wikipedia,in which case, you can delete it. The problem vanishes the day you stop looking at it. Unless of course all of the above is bullshit and you still really want an article, in which case the problem probably won't go away for the foreseeable future because a lot of people remember the original drama. Guy (Help!) 08:37, 12 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure you are actually understanding what I am saying. I ambnot pinged by wikipedia, I am mot even sure a google news alert would work. I am being emailed directly by others seeing this nonsense YOU keep attributing to me. You seem to think there is still some conflict here. If there is, its one-sided. I don’t think the 2009 account was me, but let’s assume that it is. That means by your own estimation I have been gone 8 years and you’ve been attributing disruptive editing to me. It’s over. You won. I don’t want an article, but if I did, I don’t think either of us think I am that dumb to start that process by vandalizing a few dozen pages at the same time. I’d probably just pay off Jimmy Wales. It’s easier and what’s the going price for that these days? The second I have an article on here, is the second I have to pay a PR firm to keep it from being vandalized which would take about 5 seconds. There is no us. Whatever conflict you think there is is gone. All Inam asking (besides again, apologizing in the nonsense last decade), is for you and your fellow admins to stop attributing low rent troll behavior on wikipedia to me so people don’t email me outside wikipedia asking me what I am doing. It isn’t like my email is hard to find. RealJohnBambenek (talk) 08:54, 12 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
As I said, if you want to stop getting email via Wikipedia, you can access the account and disable email. Users can email other users only if email is enabled. Special:Preferences, Email options. We can't stop people trolling you. I have a really hard time believing that people "found" this DRV page and emailed you, because internal debate pages are not search engine indexed. A Google search for mentions of your name in the last month does not turn up anything on Wikipedia. Bluntly, given your history and your carelessness with the facts, I'm discounting the possibility that people have innocently stumbled on this and contacted you. That leaves an issue of targeted trolling. Wikipedians are sympathetic to that if you ask fr help instead of running in like an angry mastodon making baseless accusations about people. Guy (Help!) 10:46, 12 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
As I have said, I AM NOT GETTING EMAIL VIA A WIKIPEDIA CONTACT FORM. I simply don't know how many ways I can say this or repeat this. People are seeing the attribution of various nonsense to me, they are finding my email through non-wikipedia methods, and asking me why I'm engaging in the behavior you have said that I'm engaging in. I'm not being trolled in e-mail. YOU are being trolled, YOU are saying it's me, others see that, and want to know why I'm doing it. I haven't made any claims other than I've been gone for a decade. You brought up some talk page that I don't claim as mine to litigate an argument from 8 years ago. That's not why I am here. At all. I am making no baseless accusations against anyone, unless you want to count some fight that took place like a decade ago, which has come and GONE. What is happening today, is, for instance, the American Canadian Expat in London 1404 vandalized a bunch of pages, started a DRV on me, YOU people state it's me, others see that, and the email me direct asking me what's going on because they assume YOUR claims that it's ME are accurate. Now you're bringing up various alleged sockpuppet accounts from YEARS ago to claim "making baseless accusations"... exactly what do you think I've accused you of, in say, the past 5 years? You are continuing a tone of hostility over a fight that's OVER. You WON! If you'd like, I'll even given you a PGP signed email that says I WANT to be censored from wikipedia. But that's not why I'm here. I'm not here to litigate the past. Hell, I'm APOLOGIZING for my part in it, and you're still hammering me over it. So, yes, I'd like to be forgotten, I'd like WP:DEEPER to go away, and I'd like when some clown shows up here deleting pages, you don't immediately assume it's me. That's it. If I was really here to sneak an article on wikipedia, do you really think I'd use my name as the username? If you want to call this a right to vanish case, fine, that's literally about all I'm asking for here with the caveat that just because someone blows up DRV, that does not mean its me. As another admin pointed out, the last guy and the last 5 or so DRVs were from someone from the UK. The last one you think was me was from 8 years ago. RealJohnBambenek (talk) 10:58, 12 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
NO NEED TO SHOUT. I was covering all the scenarios and what we can and cannot do about them. You clearly don't like me, so I will leave it to others to try to help you. Guy (Help!) 15:20, 12 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You seem to be under the impression there is some conflict between us, if so, it is entirely one-sided, as I have apologized to you about 5 times and been met with attempts to escalate a fight. If you want to do all the right to vanish things and remove the DEEPER entry, feel free. My frustration is merely bringing up a simple request and it being continually misconstrued. I have no intention of relitigating any of the supposed trolls on here. I just want to be left alone and that means not having you or your fellow editors using wikipedia to attribute random acts of vandalism to me when the facts show otherwise. RealJohnBambenek (talk) 02:12, 13 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

And for reference, this was the some total of my posts on the issue bringing it up, Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Archive295#Bambenek related vandalism. I'm not sure how that qualifies as an angry mastodon. And even after you immediately banned me for doing exactly what you suggest I should be doing, you can just look above and see there aren't baseless accusations and rage either. I'm not sure where you are getting any of this from. RealJohnBambenek (talk) 11:18, 12 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This is basically a generic WP:LTA case. Where people are involved in long term abuse under their own name, I am generally sympathetic to a "right to vanish" approach, courtesy blanking past debates and renaming accounts, but on the strict understanding that this is a one-time thing. If they resume, the pages get unblanked and the abuse gets tracked. I can't remember if we ever corresponded via the email response system, if we did, that is exactly the advice I would have given you. Guy (Help!) 10:30, 12 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
