Switching to SVG
[edit]Hi Razorbliss. I'm puzzled by your most of your edits - it seems for instance that you change an image from blabla.png to blabla.svg.
What is the advantage of doing so, may I ask? Regards, Trafford09 (talk) 11:32, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
- Hi. I am working on the Transition to SVG in Wikimedia Commons. I create SVGs based on the raster images people upload. Some are simple conversions, others I redesign almost completely.
- SVG is the recommended file format for illustrations and other non-photographic images, because SVGs are easy to edit (by different people, not just the original author), translation into various languages is very easy and the images don't lose quality after several changes, like JPEGs would do. Also, they're scalable, which means users can watch details closer if they want, and images will look good on any resolution, from a smartphone display to a big PC monitor. --Razorbliss (talk) 12:07, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
Ah - excellent. Thanks for enlightening me.
Actually, I'd looked on your user page first, to see if svg was mentioned there.
Is it worth copying the above to there, I wonder? Maybe others will join that project too?
Anyway, thanks again for settling my curiosity. Happy editing, Trafford09 (talk) 12:30, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
- Good idea, I have added it to my user page. --Razorbliss (talk) 23:14, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
