Welcome to Wikipedia from WikiProject Medicine (also known as WPMED).

We're a group of editors who strive to improve the quality of medical articles here on Wikipedia. One of our members has noticed that you are interested in editing medical articles; it's great to have a new interested editor on board. In your wiki-voyages, a few things that may be relevant to editing Wikipedia articles are:

  • Thanks for coming aboard! We always appreciate a new editor. Feel free to leave us a message at any time on our talk page. If you are interested in joining the project yourself, there is a participant list where you can sign up. Please leave a message on the WPMED talk page if you have any problems, suggestions, would like review of an article, need suggestions for articles to edit, or would like some collaboration when editing!
  • Sourcing of medical and health-related content on Wikipedia is guided by our medical sourcing guidelines, commonly referred to as MEDRS. These guidelines typically require recent secondary sources to support information; their application is further explained here. Primary sources (case studies, case reports, research studies) are rarely used, especially if the primary sources are produced by the organisation or individual who is promoting a claim.
  • The Wikipedia community includes a wide variety of editors with different interests, skills, and knowledge. We all manage to get along through a lot of discussion that happens under the scenes and through the bold, revert, discuss editing cycle. If you encounter any problems, you can discuss them on an article's talk page or post a message on the WPMED talk page.

I fear that you might not be fully aware of the rules governing the addition of information to Wikipedia, so I've added the information above to help you get to a constructive start. In general, you should not write anything about yourself, or citing your own publications. If you have a suggestion for an article, you are always welcome to make suggestions on that article's WP:Talk page - so that other, independent editors can consider and perhaps implement the suggestion. August 2009: Using Wikipedia to promote Rasel Faruk

Hello, Rasel Faruk. It has been noticed that you are attempting to promote Rasel Faruk on Wikipedia. When you repeatedly insert an article citation into many Wikipedia articles without improving the article, you are not being a constructive editor. Worse yet, you willfully and repeatedly break the syntax of the References section of these articles, and make no effort to repair it. This is called WP:disruptive editing. Please stop this behavior and confine your efforts to your article creation, where all damage is confined to your article only.


Information icon Hello, Rasel Faruk. We welcome your contributions, but it appears as if your primary purpose on Wikipedia is to add citations to research published by a small group of researchers.

Scientific articles should mainly reference review articles to ensure that the information added is trusted by the scientific community.

Editing in this way is also a violation of the policy against using Wikipedia for promotion and is a form of conflict of interest in Wikipedia – please see WP:SELFCITE and WP:MEDCOI. The editing community considers excessive self-citing to be form of spamming on Wikipedia (WP:REFSPAM) and the edits will be reviewed and the citations removed where it was not appropriate to add them.

$850 for an open-access case report

It is understandable that, for $850 paid to be published in an "open access" publication, a person wants to get their money's worth. Feel free to seed your paper around the Web everywhere other than on Wikipedia. Self promoting a case report published for pay is completely inappropriate on Wikipedia. Hello, Rasel Faruk. Thank you for helping to build Wikipedia-- the world's largest free content encyclopedia. I'm sorry, but a page you created  User:Rasel Faruk/Rasel Faruk has been deleted as meeting one or more of the criteria for speedy deletion.

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia-- subjects of articles must meet notability guidelines with reliable sources which are unconnected with the subject and which provide verifiable information. Someone unconnected with the subject needs to have written a great deal about the subject. Also, encyclopedia articles must be neutral in tone and not use language that promotes or advocates for a subject, or tries to cast the subject in a favorable light. Please see User:Deepfriedokra/promo for examples of content to avoid. Sometimes creators of promotional/advocational content are bewildered that it is considered such. If one has been trained to write such content, or if one has spent some time writing such content, one may simply be blind to non-neutral phrases or styles. A common assumption is that the prohibition against promotional editing applies only to businesses or organizations. Anything can be promoted, including a person, a non-commercial organization, a point of view, etc. and CV/resumé's are by their nature promotional. Writing about oneself or any connected subject is discouraged as the connection can make objectivity difficult. Information on avoiding advocational content and common pitfalls is here and here, however be aware that these are not exhaustive.
