Contested deletion
[edit]This page should not be speedily deleted because the page consists of the information about the great poet and author of Hindi and Braj bhasha during 1960 to 1980. Shankar Dwivedi died in a road mishap, but his writings are of great importance for literature. It is almost after forty years of his death that his literature is being published and also being read by scholars of Hindi literature. The Universities and the institutions have already started doing research on his literary achievements. The article in Wikipedia will surely be of high importance and value for such scholars who wants to do research on his literary works.
Regards
Rahul Dwivedi

Some explanations & advice
[edit]Hello, Rahul. I see that your start in contributing to Wikipedia has been met with problems, which must be frustrating. Here are some information and advice, which I hope may be helpful to you.
- The messages above may not help you much to understand what the problems were: "not closely related to Wikipedia's goals", as GPL93 said, doesn't make it at all clear what they thought the problem was. That is in fact a standard message which many editors use when an editor seems to be using their user page as a personal web page, unrelated to work for Wikipedia. Why so many editors choose to post that message, rather than a few words making it more clear what the problem is, I don't know. Jimfbleak deleted your user page, giving as the reason that it was misuse of Wikipedia as a web host.
- The user page was clearly not a personal web page about yourself, but a draft for an article. The fact that you posted it as a user page rather than as a draft would have been a good reason for moving it to draft space, but it did not justify deleting it. However, the problems with both the deletion nomination and the deletion were merely to do with the reasons given, in both cases, not to do with the fact that the page was deleted. A Wikipedia article needs to be written from a neutral point of view, and must not express opinions or judgements. The page you created was anything but neutral: it was full of praise for Shankar Dwivedi, and unambiguously written to impress a favourable view of him on the reader. The page therefore certainly qualified for speedy deletion because it was promotional.
- The article you created was not at all ready to be an article, both because its content wasn't ready and because it was misformatted. I very strongly advise you to create any new article as a draft, to be moved to mainspace as an article if and when it becomes ready.
- You put a very large number of links to Wikipedia articles (called "wikilinks") in what you wrote, which is a mistake, because smothering a page with links is just distracting and confusing for readers. The number of Wikilinks should be kept small. Also, a wikilink should normally be used only when it links to an article containing information which will help a reader to better understand the information they are reading in the article containing the link, whereas almost all of your links were to articles with no relevant content. For example, I suggest you look at the following pages, all of which you linked: Modern, Extreme, Daughter. None of them contains any information which would help a reader to understand about Shankar Dwivedi.
- Creating a new article is one of the most difficult tasks for an editor with only a small amount of experience of editing Wikipedia. My advice to new editors is that it is best to start by making small improvements to existing articles, rather than creating new articles. That way any mistakes you make will be small ones, and you won't have the discouraging experience of repeatedly seeing hours of work deleted. Gradually, you will get to learn how Wikipedia works, and after a while you will know enough about what is acceptable to be able to write whole new articles without fear that they will be deleted. Over the years I have found that editors who start by making small changes to existing articles and work up from there have a far better chance of having a successful time here than those who jump right into creating new articles from the start.
I hope some or all of those comments may be helpful to you. Please feel welcome to contact me if there's anything there you think I can clarify. JBW (talk) 14:17, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
After I posted the message above, I saw that you had re-created Draft:Shankarlal Dwivedi. This draft is, I think, distinctly better than you previous attempts. In particular, it does not overdo the wikilinks. However, it is still rather promotional in tone, so I suggest you consider making changes to correct that. JBW (talk) 14:25, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
