Possible identity issues

[edit]

Hello, just in case we run into issues, I've edited your userpage a bit. I've realised that if I were to google for my name, it comes up with your userpage. I have replaced all text with sample texts, removed all references to my identity (such as contact details), without changing the layout. I don't mind you using the layout, just be sure to change the HTML colour codes around, just a bit, so that your page becomes more original (e.g. you can make it blue, or green...), and if you like, switch around with the section layouts. Kindest regards, -- 李博杰  | Talk contribs email 01:18, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WP:Hornbook -- a new WP:Law task force for the J.D. curriculum

[edit]

Hi Rahlgd,

I'm asking Wikipedians who are interested in United States legal articles to take a look at WP:Hornbook, the new "JD curriculum task force".

Our mission is to assimilate into Wikipedia all the insights of an American law school education, by reducing hornbooks to footnotes.

  • Over the course of a semester, each subpage will shift its focus to track the unfolding curriculum(s) for classes using that casebook around the country.
  • It will also feature an extensive, hyperlinked "index" or "outline" to that casebook, pointing to pages, headers, or {{anchors}} in Wikipedia (example).
  • Individual law schools can freely adapt our casebook outlines to the idiosyncratic curriculum devised by each individual professor.
  • I'm encouraging law students around the country to create local chapters of the club I'm starting at my own law school, "Student WP:Hornbook Editors". Using WP:Hornbook as our headquarters, we're hoping to create a study group so inclusive that nobody will dare not join.

What you can do now:

1. Add WP:Hornbook to your watchlist, {{User Hornbook}} to your userpage, and ~~~~ to Wikipedia:Hornbook/participants.
2. If you're a law student,
(You don't have to start the club, or even be involved in it; just help direct me to someone who might.)
3. Introduce yourself to me. Law editors on Wikipedia are a scarce commodity. Do knock on my talk page if there's an article you'd like help on.

Regards, Andrew Gradman talk/WP:Hornbook 05:39, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I'm concerned about the current version of this template. It appears not to have links to any sources and mentions 2006 estimates, but replaced a version with a link to an apparently valid 2008 source. Also, the current version, and the original version you installed in August, have an obvious error for Duque de Caxias, which another editor corrected (or, at least, made more reasonable) and has reversed wikilinks, which another editor corrected. Your most recent change undid those apparent improvements. Can you explain this? As things stand now, it would be better to return to the 2008 sourced version and make whatever detailed improvements you want to make starting with that base. Celestra (talk) 22:54, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit summary today gave me hope that the problems I pointed out above had been addressed. I am sorry to see that is not the case. Merely changing the date to claim that the values are more current is not helpful since the 2008 estimates do not agree with the table. Please provide a source for your information or back out your changes. I'm copying these messages to the template talk page. Celestra (talk) 20:17, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. Now I understand where the values you used are supposed to come from. I don't think that we should use the values from the various pages in a single table, since that means the table may have 2009 data for one city and 2008 data for a different city. Also, a quick check shows that three of the first four values don't match the pages and the population on the Sao Paulo page, for instance, doesn't match the source. I think we should return to the 2008 estimates and drop the unsourced metropolitan numbers. Does that sound agreeable to you? Celestra (talk) 19:52, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, there are two requests in your chart's talkpage asking for some sources supporting the information shown, so you're welcome to provide the sources for that chart; otherwise it could be removed from Wikipedia, regards. Supaman89 (talk) 00:01, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

T-90

[edit]

Please check the date and content of your sources. The deal was -finalized- on Sept 14, 2009 for T-72s -only-. All of your sources -predate- Sept 14, and are -speculation- on what Venezuela may buy, not confirmation of sales. This does not constitute a valid source. Please see: http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20090914/wl_afp/venezuelarussiamilitaryweapons_20090914104449 the source I provided. Thanks. - Jonathon A H (talk) 17:57, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Again, please check your dates. Wikipedia is meant to be an encyclopedia, thus based on fact. Listing Venezuela as an operator is disingenuous as it is not the case. They do not operate them, and until you have proof of an actual deal, it is not right to list them as an operator. A source dated Sept 14, the most recent source listed, states that Venezuela did not buy T-90s, and signed a deal for T-72s only. Please consider this before making changes again. -Jonathon A H (talk) 18:31, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply. First of all, I created a section on the T-90 talk page for discussion on the talk page. Second of all, you're still failing to address the point that until a deal is signed, this is speculation. Stating they wish to buy something is different from actually purchasing it. There is a deal for the T-72s, thus it's fair to list Venezuela as an operator of T-72s, there is not a deal for T-90s. One may be signed in the future, but it does not exist now, so listing Venezuela as an operator is not proper. Venezuela should be removed from the operators list until a deal is finalized.-Jonathon A H (talk) 18:44, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Image of mestizos

[edit]

Hello:

Native Mexicans (aka "Indigenous People") are not the second largest ethnic group in Mexico. Having a big picture depicting several Native Mexicans is just pure and plain Undue Weight. Unfortunately INEGI does not keep track of "race" in Mexico as it is seen politically incorrect and kinda racist. Also according to other sources, "whites" are the second largest group in Mexico and growing, meanwhile Native Mexicans are decreasing.

But most importantly as I have said, there's already a picture showing ethnic diversity. You're free to add that picture in the corresponding article, but seems too much for a subsection. AlexCovarrubias ( Talk? ) 00:15, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Latin America

[edit]

Rahlgd, I'll take a closer look at your latest changes later. But I see that you're not reusing references properly.

Let's take this reference (ignore the "nowiki" tags in the code; don't use them): <ref>{{cite web |url=http://www.examplewebsite.com/blahblahblah_this_and_the_other.htm |title=Home page of examplewebsite.com |accessdate=2010-04-08}}</ref>. If you want to use it to reference a second or more statements, all you have to do is give it a name in the first place:
<ref name=example>{{cite web |url=http://www.examplewebsite.com/blahblahblah_this_and_the_other.htm |title=Home page of examplewebsite.com |accessdate=2010-04-08}}</ref>. Then you only have to use the name after that:
Scientists have discovered that most people like food that tastes good.<ref name=example/>
You see? You won't have to use the whole text of the reference every time. The end product will look like any statement with a reference, of course:
Scientists have discovered that most people like food that tastes good.[1]
SamEV (talk) 21:16, 4 April 2010 (UTC); 19:26, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Also could you provide a ref for the statement that LatAm is more developed than China? That's interesting stuff, but without a source it would have to be removed. SamEV (talk) 21:20, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I tagged it with a citation request. SamEV (talk) 19:26, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Make sure to provide titles for longer URLs. There was a bare URL which I can only characterize as monstrous. Look at this: before (go to the "References" section and look at ref #75) and after (look at ref #75 again). This is all I did to make that happen: [1]. Cheers. SamEV (talk) 19:26, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. Good luck. SamEV (talk) 04:35, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Problem, actually. I saw a message at Talk:Latin America which alerted me to issues with the data. I made some attempts to verify and the results were not encouraging. So I'm going to restore the previous version until those issues are worked out. I'll continue trying to help if I'm able.

Have you seen List of cities by GDP? Maybe you could find some more sources there. SamEV (talk) 06:37, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mesoamerican languages

[edit]

Thanks for taking an interest in wikipedias articles about Mesoamerica. Your edits changing the phonological descriptions in articles about Mesoamerican languages such as those you made to Nahuatl, Classical Nahuatl language, Otomí language and Zapotecan languages are not helpful and have been reverted by several different editors. Your transcription scheme is not one that is currently recognized by any groups of linguists or by the indigenous groups themselves and it is confusing rather than informative. If you have any arguments based on wikipedia policies in favour of including those transcriptions you should present them on the talk page before making the edits to see if other editors agree, failure to discuss such changes before implementing them will simply result in your edits being reverted. Thanks. ·Maunus·ƛ· 13:47, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re. "Didxažon Mǎsěvalätǒli" You have been repeatedly told by several editors with professional level knowledge of Mesoamerican indigenous languages that your spelling reforms are not commonly used in authoritative sources either in Mexico or outside (in fact I have not been able to find even non-authoritative sources using them). Please stop trying to include these spellings in wikipedia, or if you insist make a discussion in the right forum e.g. the talk page of the articles about the language in question or in a general forum such as Wikiproject Mesoamerica and try to get consensus to include the spellings by providing authoritative sources that use those spellings. ·Maunus·ƛ· 21:23, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok I see you actually have a source for Dižaxon which means Zoogocho Zapotec in Zoogocho Zapotec (you were spelling it wrong as Didxažon). However this is the English wikipedia and we of course use the prevalent English names for languages - in this case the English name is Zoogocho Zapotec.·Maunus·ƛ· 12:53, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:BTR Mexicano.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Thanks for uploading File:Skyline futuro de Monterrey.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. Addition

[edit]

Size of flickr file: 500x456px, size of Wikipedia upload: 481x413px. why is it smaller? Obviously because you cutted away a watermark. Guy, you are stealing! And you not even have the shame to remove protection measures implemented by legal owners to protect their work. What the hell are you doing on this project?! This is not the right place for such illegal activities and its not what we normaly do here. Therefore this is not the right place for persons like you. --Martin H. File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Annual income in mexico.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.

If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.

Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- ТимофейЛееСуда. 15:18, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
