Hi and some comments

[edit]

We occasionally have new editors that are authentic experts and even academicians. We welcome such contributions of course, but there are many potential problems that experts might encounter, so here is some advice (that you can take or ignore):

  • Avoid big edits. Make small edits to gain experience.
  • Avoid citing any publication involving you or your close colleagues. It is called WP:COI. Yes, I know that we know our own work very well, but Wikipedia is also exploited as a mechanism to advance peoples careers or remind others about our overlooked contributions. Just stay away from that kind of stuff.
  • Wikipedia guidelines favor citing books and reviews. See WP:SECONDARY.
  • Wikipedia is NOT a lot of things. We are not a textbook. We are not a technical journal. We ARE a source of general information on many topics. See WP:NOT.

Good luck, --Smokefoot (talk) 14:00, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
